Message from the CEO
I am delighted to present the 2022 ELIX Polymers Sustainability and Social Responsibility Report, which allows us to share our environmental, social and governance progress.
In 2022 we have had to face up to uncertain and volatile times, marked by the war in Ukraine, which has given rise to an energy crisis and a worsening of the economic situation in Europe. In the face of this, we have been able to show our resilience as a company, generating value and demonstrating our commitment to sustainable development.
During this past year we have achieved important milestones in the development of our sustainability strategy, taking steps in our commitment to reduce our environmental impact and promote the transition to a circular economy, while fulfilling our purpose of generating a positive impact in the places where we operate. We have shared this path, with all its challenges and goals, with our stakeholders, building alliances and creating areas for cooperation that have allowed us to move forward.
As part of its Sustainable Operations programme, ELIX has taken a new step in its commitment to incorporate sustainability criteria into the analysis of the supply chain, increasing the visibility, traceability and mitigation of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks of our suppliers as part of our management system.
In order to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, ELIX has reached agreements to cover 100% of electricity consumption in its facilities with electricity from alternative sources to fossil fuels.
We have also continued to develop and introduce to the market our portfolio of sustainable solutions, based on renewable and circular raw materials. These solutions respond to the objectives of reducing the carbon footprint of our customers and have been successfully introduced in applications in the automotive, toy and consumer goods sectors with excellent results.
We have continued to strengthen our commitment to people and society by operating our facilities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. As part of our social commitment, we have collaborated in numerous projects that have a positive impact on the community. These include the Ayúdame3D project, an example of positive social impact through collaboration in the value chain and an example of circularity.
This effort has been recognized by our stakeholders and is reflected in the fact that for the first time we have been awarded the EcoVadis platinum medal, the highest recognition for corporate social responsibility, awarded to only 1% of the companies assessed worldwide.
2022 has been a year of challenges overcome and milestones achieved. I invite you to learn about them in this report. It only remains for me to thank you for the trust you have placed in us, which we hope to continue to repay for many years to come.

ELIX has been working as an ABS supplier to the leading manufacturers of toys and skis for several decades.
Governance and ethics
Ensuring that our business model is ethical is part of our sustainability strategy. Our ethical principles must not only cover the requirements established in our regulatory framework, but also define who we are and must be present in everything we do.
The company's current regulatory framework for professional relations and actions is established by the Code of Ethics and Conduct, which defines integrity, honesty and transparency as the basis for preventing corruption and bribery. We extend this Code to our suppliers and collaborating companies by requiring them to sign a specific declaration. Meanwhile, all ELIX employees are aware of and have received information about this Code.
The ELIX management team has created the figure of the Ethical Compliance officer, in order to ensure the company and its collaborators comply with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and by-laws. Its basic function is to promote ethical conduct and compliance with the rules, regulations and standard processes that govern the way in which these organizations must carry out their business. This figure also receives any possible cases of non-compliance within the company and analyses them alongside the Ethics Committee. In addition to these core functions, it also implements and maintains a culture of compliance with the new code and ensures that any new measures and changes to this document are communicated and that up-to-date training is provided on these.
In 2022 we drew up a new ELIX Code of Ethics and Conduct, which was approved at the start of 2023, in which we set out the values, principles and conduct that should guide the development of our professional activity and our relationships with our stakeholders.
Risk analysis
ELIX identifies its processes and interactions for the quality, environmental and energy efficiency management system by means of a process map in which the necessary criteria and methods are determined to ensure that their operation and control are effective. For this purpose, processes are monitored, measured and analysed at defined intervals, managed in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards. The stakeholders and their requirements are identified, a risk assessment is performed and an analysis is carried out to determine how our process may affect these parties concerned.
Each area of the company has its risk map, which determines the impact of the risk on the following stakeholders (internal and external), taking into account the likelihood of the event and the severity of the risk:
Customers Employees
Suppliers
Shareholders
Workers’ Committee | unions
Social environment
(families of employees, local community, media, social media, etc.).
Public Administration
Competitors
This map identifies the risks and their possible causes, assesses the likelihood of the risk, the stakeholder that may be affected and the consequences, measures the degree of severity, evaluates whether the risk is low, medium or high and determines the measures to be taken.
We also carry out an environmental risk analysis, the main purpose of which is to analyse and evaluate environmental risk, as well as to establish the bases for its effective management and to facilitate decision-making in this area in order to prevent possible environmental damage caused by our business. ELIX has an environmental liability policy supplemented by a civil liability policy.
Risks and impacts identified in the risk analysis for each material issue
In the event of a decrease in customer payments or an increase in the value of raw materials which could lead to a lack of liquidity, this would be dealt with through factoring or credit insurance, credit facilities or pricing formulas which allow the increase in raw material costs to be passed on quickly.
The implementation of a supplier evaluation procedure and a contingency plan are the actions foreseen to mitigate the risk of not being able to manufacture due to lack of raw materials or stock.
To mitigate the risk of excessive energy consumption, the foreseen actions include daily monitoring and follow-up by the Energy Committee and the People, Culture and Communication Training Plan.
To address the risk of accidental emissions the company implements a Business Activities Coordination Platform (CTAIMA), periodic internal audits, a Human Resources Training Plan, preventive equipment maintenance plans, a Continuous Operational Monitoring Plan, an Emergency Action Plan and an Emergency Management Training Plan.
Evaluation of waste management suppliers is key with regard to the risk of increased emissions in the event of an accident during transport.
In view of the risk of exceeding the authorized quantities of waste generation, there is a continuous monitoring programme for critical parameters, a Continuous Operational Monitoring Plan, an Emergency Action Plan, an Emergency Management Training Plan, a Human Resources Training Plan and internal audits. These audits ensure proper waste management. Contracts have been signed with various waste managers.
To avoid the risk of non-compliance with the law in relation to occupational risk prevention a set of measures have been adopted including: the CTAIMA platform, internal and external audits, training plan, external advice from specialized consultancies, participation in technical forums, management system, procedures, business activities coordination platform, etc.
The risk of having an unhealthy working environment is addressed through the safety management system, the Healthy Company Plan and the occupational risk prevention communication programme.
With regard to new product development, the risk of poor planning, is mitigated with periodic reviews of the phases, resources and testing. To address the risk of incomplete information, there is a plan in place to standardize the flow of information.
To manage the risk of a customer complaint for which the cause of the non-conformity cannot be determined, a specific procedure will be created for ordering sample material. To eliminate the cause of the non-conformity, a working group will be created.
Regarding quality management at ELIX, the main risk identified is non-compliance with the requirements of the management system, which could lead to non-renewal of certification, increased work to ensure an improvement and an impact on the company's image. To deal with this risk, we plan to draw up an audit plan.
Failure to meet quality agreements or customer requirements (e.g. as a result of a global pandemic) would imply not being able to purchase material, making it necessary to identify potential improvements and develop a contingency plan.

GLOBALITY, SECURITY AND PRIVACY
2022 was another challenging and volatile year in which we had to overcome and adapt to the disruptions in our supply chain caused by the war in Ukraine and in which we continued to standardize the management of our processes in terms of flexibility and resilience. To this end, we worked to promote continuous improvement initiatives and the digitalization of processes, which enabled us to get ahead of ongoing challenges.
We completed the digitalization of two key processes in our supply chain, sales and operations planning, and production scheduling, allowing us to meet the need for flexibility and better manage new scenarios in order to adapt to continuous changes. We also started the robotization of certain supply control processes, which freed up time for higher value-added tasks.
We achieved a perfect order ratio of 92.60% for our type A customers, which means that we fulfilled our commitments to them at the time of order receipt, in a highly complex environment due to the lack of global market capacity in the first half of the year and declining demand in the second half of the year.
1. Measured for type A customers.
2. Takes into account all purchase orders delivered on the confirmed date out of the total number of purchase orders.
3. Takes into account all purchase orders that have not experienced any incidences, regardless of whether it was noticed by the client, out of the total number of purchase orders.
ELIX’s colour development laboratory is certified by Renault’s design department
In 2022, ELIX’s colour development laboratory was certified by Renault’s design department, allowing us to validate new or existing colours in new materials, according to the French car manufacturer's colour approval specifications and procedures rather than having to resort to an accredited third-party laboratory. Renault and ELIX have been working together for many years and several ELIX products are specified in the latest Renault thermoplastic materials list. ELIX also provides technical support to Renault on transformers where ABS is used for different in-car applications, such as interior trim parts or chrome front grilles.
Evaluating customer satisfaction
We measure the satisfaction of our customers based on the overall analysis of the answers received on to two key indicators: Net Promoter Score (NPS), which measures customer loyalty based on a single question: “How likely are you to recommend the product or service to a colleague?” and the customer satisfaction score (CSAT), an operational performance indicator that evaluates customer satisfaction at key company-customer touchpoints, through a question regarding satisfaction and one asking for possible improvements if the level of satisfaction is low. Based on these evaluation results, we carry out immediate corrective measures and continuous improvement measures.
OVERALL NPS
The NPS indicator has increased significantly in 2022, compared to 2021. Customers appreciated ELIX's efforts in all areas. We also contacted more customers than in previous years to ask for their feedback. The process of continuous improvement in customer service is helping us to identify the most relevant aspects on which we should focus our efforts.
Customer touchpoint
RELATIONSHIP
Measures individual interactions and touchpoints and links them to operational performance.
Satisfaction indicators are measured from the responses of our customers regarding two aspects: complaints and sample sending.
Customer feedback survey
Certified quality
ELIX guarantees quality in all management systems and manufacturing processes to meet the demands of its customers and provide them with value.
With regard to the Right First Time indicator, in 2022 we remained above 99% (99.45%), which indicates that the percentage of error in the manufacture of our products the first time is less than 1% and that, therefore, the level of efficiency and quality is very high. The target of being above 99% in 2023 remains unchanged.
Main projects implemented in 2022:
Improve the response time for the complaints received. In 2022 the average response time was 15 days. ELIX's objective is not to exceed 20 days.
Improve the waiting time for samples:
In 2022 we carried out the second followup audit of our ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications and the first follow-up of our ISO 50001 certification. We also worked on the implementation of ISO 45001 for our health and safety in the workplace management system in a bid to obtain the certification in 2023.
Our certifications:
this involves reducing the time between the manufacturing and shipping of new samples to existing and potential customers.
Digitalization
ELIX follows a digitalization plan, called DIGICOM, to improve its production and engineering processes. We have created three-dimensional models of most of our facilities, which in 2023 will allow us to optimize technical designs and apply modifications in terms of time and error reduction remotely and with great precision.
Our processes, based on a lean management philosophy, allow us to deploy the different initiatives and projects in line with the strategy. The efficiency of the tools already implemented in the legacy systems, such as the new sales and operations planning (S&OP) tool, allow for improved information-based decision making, optimized business impact and more efficient energy consumption and facility usage.
ELIX sees digitalization as a tool, not an end in itself. The combination of technology and process optimization through techniques such as Lean Management ensures the best decisions are taken regarding the solutions being developed.
Main projects in 2022:
Digitalization of all engineering information under the Smart P&ID project, which will serve to make information more accessible and increase its security.

E-LOOP, sustainable solutions
E-LOOP, sustainable solutions
The goal is to catalyse small, and therefore more efficient, locally implemented ABS recovery loops.
We offer more sustainable solutions through strategies for the recovery of ABS or other by-products, increased recirculation and the establishment of partnerships throughout our value chain.
ELIX's transition towards the circular economy is underpinned by innovation to turn waste into a resource. We collaborate with other company, in our sector or others, in order to attain circularity.
E-LOOP is the brand of our circular innovations and more sustainable solutions. It includes all circular economy initiatives in products, design and services. Our mission with society: sustainable products
Circular plastics
We aim to deliver upcycled solutions that preserve functionality in end-customer applications and engage with stakeholders across the value chain to create new circular business models. We want to become a key player in the circular plastics industry, capable of creating closed cycles and new business models.
Priority lines of action:
Mechanical recycling
Mechanically recycled ABS and ABS/PC blends with properties equivalent to raw material destination applications with high material requirements. The high quality and delivery reliability of recycled raw materials are the basis of the model.
Certified raw materials
Main actions completed in 2022
Creation of 10 new materials: 7 by chemical recycling and 3 by mechanical recycling.
Aspirational objective:
Ensure that 25% of the products used in our solutions offer a sustainable advantage by 2025. We understand sustainable advantage as the inclusion of greater recycled mechanical, chemical or renewable content in our products, or a reduction in the intensity of the material and therefore an improvement of our environmental footprint.
Raw materials with properties 100 % equal to virgin products, incorporating circular and bio-based raw materials. The ISCC PLUS certified product portfolio uses the mass balance model to ensure traceability and transparency in the supply chain.
Use of raw materials from biological, renewable or recycled sources.
Several approved suppliers for the main monomers (ACN and STY, with contracts in force) and other polymers (PC, SAN).
Creation of synergies with the Sinochem Group.
Validation of renewable sources and identification of new ones for the coming years.
Validation/accreditation of 2 sustainable raw materials with ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) and 1 recycled mechanical raw material (black polycarbonate), and transparent polycarbonate is currently in the validation process.
Participation in the development of projects with customers and suppliers.
Renewal of ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) for a third year.
In 2022 certain businesses were consolidated (2,073 tonnes between chemical recycling and mechanical recycling) and various validations were carried out for future projects with large automotive manufacturers (OEMs), mostly.
The advantage of this more sustainable product portfolio is that it offers innovative solutions that preserve functionality in the customer's end applications. We engage in redefining plastic waste as raw materials.

ELIX's innovation ensures we have a portfolio of sustainable products, based on recycled materials and of bio origin. Each of our solutions provides added value and prioritizes environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and specific customer requirements.
Priority lines of action:
Improve the sustainability of our ABS materials.
Development of new products following the ecodesign or Value Sensitive Design methodology, which allows us to objectively compare the impact of different products. The methodology is applied in the initial stages of solution development and the customer is involved in the design of their products, ensuring these are more adapted to their needs, optimizing their processes and improving their competitiveness.
Reduce the quantity of the material as a benefit in the final application.
Aspirational objectives:
Ensure that 100% of our products are recyclable and free of substances of high concern.
Invest in R&D and technology, by implementing projects that improve circularity and sustainable products.
Promoting the design of recyclable and reusable products
Life-cycle assessment (LCA) methodology to promote circular plastics.
Technical support for customers to evaluate recyclability.
Identification of strategic European Union research projects.
Guarantee that 100% of our products are recyclable and free of substances of high concern, including the new E-LOOP materials from mechanical and chemical recycling.
ELIX carries out a life-cycle assessment of its most sustainable E-LOOP solutions
Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is an internationally standardized methodology to assess the environmental impact associated with all stages of a product's cycle. It makes it possible to scientifically compare different products, the same product manufactured in different places and the different recycling options.
ELIX has carried out a full LCA of its production based on ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards (cradle-to-gate analysis) taking into account transport to customer sites and direct (scope 1) and indirect (scopes 2 and 3) emissions. The aim of this analysis, validated by the Anthesis group, is to investigate the environmental performance of the most sustainable E-LOOP products and compare it with polymers of fossil origin.
Our LCA shows that mechanically and chemically recycled products can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the final product.
More and more OEMs in different industrial sectors are requesting LCA values to compare different polymers with each other in order to reduce their environmental impact, as consumers demand sustainable products and new regulations need to be met.

Sustainable solutions tailored to customers
At ELIX we jointly develop optimal solutions with our customers tailored to their specific needs. We are the first manufacturer of ABS and ABS blends certified through the ISCC PLUS system, a certification that we have renewed for the third year. ISCC PLUS is a global certification system that covers all sustainable raw materials, including recycled and bio-based materials. The certificate provides traceability throughout the supply chain and verifies that the total amount of certified raw material (input) corresponds to the equivalent amount of circular ABS or ABS blend produced (output). It also promotes the responsible use of sustainable resources through close collaboration along the supply chain.
An aspect worth highlighting about the ISCC certificate is that it applies to the entire ELIX catalogue, with the same characteristics as our usual high-quality pre-coloured products and in compliance with the strictest regulations and standards.
Meanwhile, we have continued to support some customers during the Cradle to Cradle certification processes for their applications with regard to ABS. This enables our customers to certify that their final product uses ABS with specific characteristics in relation to its sustainability and content.

ELIX and Ayúdame3D join forces to produce prostheses for charity using recovered ABS
In 2022 ELIX took part in a socio-technological project with Ayúdame3D, a Spanish socially responsible start-up that promotes the social value of technology through awareness programmes to help people with disabilities thanks to three-dimensional printing.
ELIX developed the recycled ABS raw material through 3D printing, a technology in which the company has extensive experience. The challenge was to offer a solution tailored to the project, incorporating the circular economy. In the manufacturing process, ELIX turned waste into a high value product (upcycling) thanks to the collaboration of the entire value chain and incorporating virtualization and new 3D technologies.
The project was possible thanks to the collaboration of Repsol, which donated 4,000 pieces of ABS plates to the association from computer equipment that would otherwise have been discarded, and of Leitat, a technology centre of excellence. Leitat manufactured coils from the raw material recovered by ELIX, for its subsequent printing using 3D technology and the manufacture of trésdesis, arms printed in three dimensions for the wrist, elbow or shoulder.

5 Caring for climate
Caring for climate
Our mission with society: sustainable, responsible and safe operations that contribute to mitigating climate change.
In 2022, the Sustainable Operations Committee reviewed the strategic plan for reducing the carbon footprint and water consumption established in Programme 3 “Caring for climate". New initiatives have been studied and included in the plan to guarantee compliance with the aspirational goals.
The programme for energy efficiency and electricity consumption from renewable sources, the environmental programme and the sustainable management of transport are key to reaching our 2025 goals.
At ELIX, we have an Environmental and Sustainability Policy and an Energy Policy: our environmental management system is certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard; the energy management system is governed by the ISO 50001 standard.
Aspirational objectives:
Reduce ELIX's environmental footprint by 15% (carbon and water footprint).
Reduce the carbon footprint of ABS using circular economy strategies (with the circular plastics programme).
Reduce ELIX's vulnerability to climate change.
Lines of action:
Reduce the environmental footprint.
Reduce the carbon footprint of ABS using circular economy strategies.
Reduce ELIX’s risks in the face of climate change.
Restore lost coastal and river ecosystems in the local area.
Participate in international biodiversity loss and carbon emissions offsetting programmes.
Objectives for 2025:
Reduce our carbon footprint and water footprint by 15%.
Improve ELIX’s ability to adapt to climate change.
Contribute to climate change adaptation by restoring local coastal biodiversity.
To assess the evolution and performance of measures taken with regard to the protection of the environment, we rely on a system of indicators which monitor significant environmental aspects for our activity, which allows us to assess annually the degree to which we have achieved our environmental goals.
Identification and risk assessment of significant environmental aspects includes the definition of measurement indicators and the control and monitoring thereof. The environmental programme is drawn up annually. It contains the initiatives to reduce significant environmental impacts in line with established procedure.
The methodology to identify environmental aspects adopted by ELIX is based on a life cycle assessment, through the definition of areas and their associated environmental vectors, where the possible impacts on the environment are located: atmosphere, water, soil, natural resources, etc. The processes, products and services are then analysed in order to identify the potential environmental risks of the different areas associated with each environmental vector. When assessing the significant environmental aspects, both environmental and organizational criteria are taken into account.
ELIX has a legal platform to ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation.
DEGREE OF ACHIEVEMENT OF THE 2022 TARGETS
The environment. Significant environmental aspects:
WASTEWATER GENERATION
Emissions to water from the high total organic carbon (TOC) stream measured in particles per million (ppm) and specific generation of high-TOC wastewater (m3/t powder): in 2022 there was an improvement in the measures for managing high TOC effluent, which has led to a change in the approach to the environmental targets related to this stream. The entry into operation of the joint treatment of Aguas Industriales de Tarragona, S.A. (AITASA) represents a significant improvement in the treatment of the wastewater streams generated, therefore the risk identified in the analysis carried out in 2022 is reduced to consider it as a significant environmental aspect.
Specific generation of low-TOC wastewater (m3/t ABS + sales): its generation has been monitored, but without a specific target.
ATMOSPHERIC EMISSIONS
Carbon Monoxide Emissions in Regene rative Thermal Oxidation (RTO): after the implementation of the initiatives to reduce natural gas consumption at the RTO plant, the impact on atmospheric emissions has been monitored, ensuring strict compliance with the applicable limit values.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION
See section below on energy efficiency.
Objectives for 2023:
3% reduction in the generation of ABS clinker waste compared to the best value of the last 3 years.
5% reduction in the generation of ABS-R category A waste compared to the best value of the last 3 years.
2% reduction in the generation of residual monomers compared to the best value of the last 3 years.
3.5% reduction in low-TOC wastewater compared to the best value of the last 3 years.
Main environmental investments:
Inspection and repairing of the wastewater discharge tank to prevent a loss of containment risk.
Reduction of industrial air consumption, as well as of the risk for workers in the loading and unloading of tankers.
Reduction of electrical losses in the SAN 2/PRECO transformer.
Implementation of recipe management system to reduce downtime of extrusion lines and consequently reduce material loss.

Efficient consumption of raw materials
The raw material consumption rate is ELIX’s indicator to measure the efficiency of the transformation process in the final product. The goal: to boost efficiency in the use of resources.
EFFICIENT CONSUMPTION OF RESOURCESRAW
* The efficiency of each plant is measured as follows: waste + scrap + off-spec (SAN/powder/COMP) / production (SAN/powder/COMP).
Energy efficiency
In line with ISO 50001 requirements, ELIX has an energy efficiency programme that determines goals and their monitoring.
Actions completed in 2022:
Review of the various energy consumption key performance indicators (KPI) based on 2021 data, including critical operational parameters identified in that year's study.
Possibility of obtaining more segregated performance models (by production unit).
Review of the electricity consumption performance model for the five granulation lines, taking into account the type of product manufactured.
Review of water consumption performance models (industrial, demineralized, for refrigeration), in line with the strategic objective established this year to reduce the water footprint of each company.
Update of USE
Support in the detection of critical operational control parameters.
Support in the preparation of a report panel for control room operators (electricity model).
Technical training for maintenance personnel aimed at promoting good practices and detecting day-to-day savings opportunities.
Training on regression and calculation of energy performance indicators to provide more information on this topic.
ELIX consumes all its electricity from renewable sources
As of 1 October 2022, all of ELIX’s electricity consumption is covered by alternative sources to fossil fuels. All the electricity consumed by the Tarragona plant’s guarantee of origin is certified by the National Commission for Markets and Competition. This means a considerable reduction of the company’s CO2 emissions.
This measure takes us a step closer to achieving our priority objective, included in our Sustainable Operations programme, of reducing the carbon footprint associated with our operations. The use of renewable sources for the electricity supply to our facilities represents a significant milestone in our plan.

The carbon footprint of the product
ELIX studies the LCA of its products, with the most relevant monitoring indicators being the carbon footprint and water consumption. We work to reduce product emissions through green energy measures, energy efficiency projects, initiatives in more sustainable forms of transport, substitution of non-renewable fossil fuel raw materials with more sustainable sources from chemical and mechanical recycling, bio-based materials (E-LOOP brand), etc.
This past year we calculated the carbon footprint of our product by carrying out a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) based on the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards.
We do so under the "cradle-to-gate” principle, that is to say measuring the impact from the extraction of the raw materials up to the delivery to the customers. The calculation takes into account three different scopes: scope 1 (direct emissions), scope 2 and scope 3 (indirect emissions).
CARBON FOOTPRINT OF THE PRODUCT
(t CO2 eq/ t sales of ABS intermediate products, offspec and scrap)
Efficient water consumption
One of the objectives of the Climate Care program of ELIX's Sustainability Strategy is to reduce water consumption by 15% from 2017 to 2025. For this reason, ELIX works to improve its efficiency in water use and reduce vulnerability of water basins in the face of freshwater depletion.
ELIX works to improve their efficiency in water use and reduce the vulnerability of drainage basins in the face of freshwater depletion.
The water consumed by ELIX comes entirely from third parties. Three types of water are consumed:
Industrial water.
Demineralized water.
Drinking water.

INDUSTRIAL WATER CONSUMED
In 2022, the new AITASA joint industrial wastewater treatment plant came into operation, representing a new step forward for the Tarragona chemical industry in an area in which it is a pioneer and an international benchmark: sustainable water management. The new facility collects the industrial wastewater already treated by each industry of the industrial complex and gives it a new stage of purification, bringing the final effluent to qualities that will allow, in a future phase, its reuse.
The new facility treats the water supplied by the industries, with a joint treatment in addition to that of the industries themselves, in order to improve the quality of these waters before being emitted through the joint outfall. By applying the requirements of the best available techniques, the installation reduces the contaminant load present in the water by more than 70%.
Continued implementation of the Zero Pellets Loss programme
ELIX maintains its adherence to national and international initiatives in order to build a new business system capable of developing and sharing projects which have a positive impact on the environment. In this regard, in 2017 ELIX joined the international programme Operation Clean Sweep (OCS), known internally as the Zero Pellets Loss project.
In 2022, the following actions were carried out in line with the action plan:
Internal audits.
Review plan for operational procedures with information on project awareness.
Training on the programme for the entire Operations workforce.
Campaign to involve operators in the continuous improvement of the project.
Planning for the certification process.
Waste management and recovery
Within the framework of the circular economy, waste recovery is a fundamental aspect that is gaining even more relevance and something which we have been working on in recent years. We are gradually moving from a linear management model of collection and treatment by an authorized manager to a management model with a circular economy perspective, constantly seeking ways to recover and reuse our waste.
ELIX currently has a process in place to minimize the generation of waste, and it continues to work to improve waste management, controlling and identifying new aspects.
WASTE GENERATED)
Packaging waste prevention plan
Our packaging waste prevention plan is aimed at finding strategies to reduce the use of packaging in the field of distribution and logistics. For example, we have replaced certain packaging with tankers to ship our products within the European Union.
We have also implemented improvement actions to prevent and reduce their impact on the environment.
The decision on the type of packaging for the products we ship is unique and exclusive to the customer, which forces us to work together if we want to reduce the impact of the waste we generate outside our facilities.
PACKAGING WASTE
The indicator has increased compared to last year due to the updating of the weight of the packaging.
Protection of air quality
ELIX has four point sources of pollution in which regulatory controls are carried out according to the frequency established by the applicable legislation; in addition, we carry out voluntary self-assessments.
Control of fugitive emissions
ELIX has implemented the voluntary LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) programme to control fugitive emissions, which consists of the inventory, detection and reduction of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Each year the inventoried points are monitored and any new detected points are added.
These checks show that our facilities have a high level of airtightness. Leak frequency is an indicator which measures the percentage by which the definition of a leak (>100 ppm) is exceeded. In 2022, the value for the leak frequency indicator at ELIX was 0.30%. As a reference, most companies in the sector are in the 0.7–3% range of the leak frequency rate.
In 2022, the emissions of point sources were once again below the established legal limits.
6 Employee development
We encourage our collaborators to grow through continuous training, participation and teamwork, making an effort to find and keep talent. Our priority is the well-being of our professionals, guaranteeing, in turn, the best possible conditions for their development and promotion.
Employee development
Since 2016, at ELIX we have operated under the Management by Missions project. After defining the company mission and linking it to each employee’s individual mission and to the purpose of each company area (shared missions), ELIX's Management by Missions project is still under development.
Our mission with people:
• To offer acknowledgement and development both professionally and personally
• To ensure a safe and collaborative work environment
Aspirational objectives:
Create a safe workplace in an environment of well-being.
Improve the level of employee satisfaction.
Develop a culture of leadership based on the company's values.
Increase the presence of women in operational and management areas and update our Equality Plan.
In 2022, we worked with several of ELIX’s collaborators to define role missions.
WORKFORCE

2. With the exception of this table, the rest of the indicators shown in this section do not include external workers, since we do not manage them directly.
3. Included in the total number of employees are those who are semi-retired; these employees have not been included in the rest of the tables since, despite continuing to work for ELIX, their dedication is different from that of the rest of the employees.
4. Persons employed by subcontractors and who carry out logistics, maintenance, engineering, technological and cleaning work.
WORKFORCE BY CONTRACT TYPE AND BY GENDER (AS OF 31 DECEMBER)
WORKFORCE BY WORKING HOURS BY GENDER (AS OF 31 DECEMBER)
ELIX is committed to a hybrid flexible working schedule
ELIX operates a hybrid flexible working schedule for those positions which, by their nature, allow for this flexibility to be incorporated. 2022 was the first year that ELIX operated this model, which combines aspects of remote work (1 or 2 days) and office work with a degree of flexible hours at the beginning and end of the day. In this regard, we have a Regulation on flexitime, remote working and teleworking for employees.
In order to assess the degree of performance and the functioning of the system, a specific Monitoring Committee has been set up and meets regularly (generally on a quarterly basis or whenever required by the members).
ELIX provides those who opt to work remotely, and those who are already teleworking, with a basic work kit and financial compensation.
ELIX has drawn up a Guide to Good Practice to ensure the successful implementation of the new hybrid flexible working schedule.
Talent management system
In 2022, we set up a new talent management system that replaces the one used until now, based on interviews. This new system, adapted to ELIX's culture, values and mission, aims to encourage continuous feedback between managers and their teams.

Within the framework of the mission of recognizing and promoting the professional and personal development of employees, two new clubs were presented during the gala: ELIX 25 and ELIX NOVAS 3. The ELIX 25 club was created with the aim of recognizing and highlighting the fidelity, loyalty and commitment of all those employees who have been at ELIX for more than 25 years. ELIX NOVAS 3 aims to bring together those employees who have been at ELIX for 3 years or less.
During the gala, badges were awarded to the attending members and an explanation was given on how these clubs, which will be launched as of 2023, will operate.
Training for development
We have a training and development system in place that focuses on the personal and professional growth of the company’s workforce. There is a procedure in place that ensures that all the training needs of the workforce are managed and carried out efficiently and in a manner appropriate to each situation. In this way, training needs are identified during the last quarter of the year through a detection process carried out with supervisors; they are then analysed and included in the training plan for the following year, which is approved in January. There is also the option of arranging ad hoc training sessions, depending on the needs of the situation and the day-today business. There is also a system for assessing the effectiveness of training actions.
The onboarding plans for new hires contain an initial training programme which provides employees with the training required for each position, both on technical and safety aspects.
Dual Training and Professional Work Experience Programme
ELIX has a Dual Training and Professional Work Experience Programme that is aligned with the company's missions, as well as with the shared missions of the People, Culture and Communication Area. The programme offers training opportunities in various fields, especially technical ones, through scholarships.
To promote awareness of the programme, ELIX plans to create a specific area on its website to publicize the collaboration agreements established with training centres and publish its offer of scholarships. Likewise, the company plans to collaborate with job fairs and open days at training centres, as well as with special employment centres in the local press.

Training for service companies on specific risks and emergency actions in ELIX was carried out through an online platform created specifically for this purpose.
7 Sustainable supply chain
ELIX continues to strengthen its risk and resilience systems, both in purchases and in the supply chain, and also improves its coordination teams. This allows us to guarantee the continuity of operations without our clients feeling an impact in their service.
Sustainable supply chain
The context of volatility experiences in the previous two years continued in 2022. In this case the main impact was caused by the global geopolitical situation. Despite the disruptions experienced since the start of the year due to the Ukraine crisis, our resilience management system helped us to identify and mitigate these at an early stage, allowing us to remain a reliable supplier without hindering our fulfilment obligations at any time.
We actively work on a transport strategy plan that allows us to provide a stable service in the future regardless of market difficulties and price volatility, while also improving our collaborative and sustainable approach.
Moreover, as part of the supply chain responsibility programme, ELIX Polymers took another step in 2022 in the integration of criteria related to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in the assessment of its suppliers, through an agreement with EcoVadis to develop and digitalize said integration.
Aspirational objective:
Assess 80% of suppliers (those whose invoices exceed 250,000 euros and all critical suppliers regardless of invoicing) according to their social and environmental performance.
ELIX's purchasing policy continues to priorities, as far as possible, the purchase of materials and products close to the production centre to promote the development of the local economy and, simultaneously, reduce emissions derived from transport.
ELIX recognizes the best suppliers of 2021
For the sixth consecutive year, in order to recognize the contribution of its suppliers in meeting the company's objectives and challenges, ELIX acknowledged the collaboration of Ipsum Proyectos Industriales, a service company specializing in different industrial assemblies, and Faci, the world's leading chemical company in the oleochemical market. ELIX therefore chose them as the best suppliers of 2021 and presented them with the ELIX Polymers Outstanding Performance Award 2021.
When selecting the best suppliers of the year, ELIX takes into account values such as collaboration, integrity, resilience and sustainable growth. As part of ELIX's mission to ensure speed and flexibility in responding to customer needs, proactively proposing optimal solutions, both suppliers have comfortably met expectations, putting all their potential and resources at ELIX's disposal, providing added value to its entire value chain and creating solutions that respond to the company's needs.
Sustainable purchasing project
In 2022, ELIX continued to develop its Sustainable Purchasing Project, which consists of including sustainability criteria in the selection of new suppliers through a protocol that includes environmental and social aspects. This project started in 2021.
The project has four phases, which will run until 2025. In 2022, the second and third phases (supplier risk assessment based on the built-in risk matrix and self-assessment tool) were approved and completed and the technology provider was selected.
The system, implemented in 2022 for transport suppliers, which will be extended to other suppliers in the coming years, consists of:
Delivery of the Code of Ethics and Conduct and confirmation
of acceptance by the supplier.
Questionnaire which includes questions relating to sustainability and social responsibility.
Organic Content Standard (OCS) certificate.
In 2022, 15% of new suppliers were screen using social and environmental criteria.
With the implementation of the system, ELIX will prioritize suppliers that meet sustainability requirements.
Support for the local community
ELIX aspires to be a business with a positive impact on its environment and to contribute to improving the global well-being of the community on which it has an impact. We collaborate in different charitable and social initiatives in the region where we operate and take part in the socioeconomic revitalization of our community.
Support for the local community
ELIX's sustainability strategy includes a community support programme, which consists of contributing, directly or indirectly, to the overall well-being of society and the environment. We generate activities to promote and support social initiatives carried out in our immediate environment, some of which are stable and have been ongoing for several years.
Aspirational objective:
Our mission with society: Contribute positively to social well-being
Become recognized for our positive contribution to local communities and ecosystems. Objectives for 2030:
Improve ELIX's contribution to local communities across the value chain.
Contribute to preserve and regenerate local ecosystems.

With regard to the management and relationship with company employees, the main risk identified would be related to the system for recording working hours due to its scope and compliance with applicable legislation and regulations. For this reason we are currently working on improving said system so that it is more complete and digitized and responds both to legislative needs and to our internal needs in terms of control and registration of working hours.

403-1 Occupational health and safety management system
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
One of the strategic initiatives of the HSE area for 2022 was to obtain a certification in the occupational health and safety management system, more specifically according to the requirements established in ISO45001. To this end, a precertification audit was established as a method of validating the success of this initiative.
In 2022, the existing Occupational Health and Safety system at ELIX was reviewed to subsequently adapt it to the requirements established in the ISO 45001:2018 standard. This was carried out with the help of an expert consultant in management systems, with the constant support of the different members of the IPS (internal prevention service) and the HSE manager. This initiative involved the review of practically all existing preventive procedures, as well as other documentation. The last phase of the initiative involves training actions which have been scheduled for the beginning of 2023 for all ELIX personnel to explain the changes made to the current management system.

Review in 2022 of procedure SE-10540 RISK ASSESSMENT OF JOB POSITIONS
The Internal Prevention Service carries out a risk assessment by function based on the list of tasks and information provided by the person in charge of the area. This risk assessment will be reviewed and validated in the work session(s) by a team made up of: area manager, job position representatives (to be designated by area managers), prevention officers and the Internal Prevention Service.
The risk factors evaluated are grouped into 4 vectors: A. Risk of accident by form of contact B. Exposure to physical or chemical agents C. Exposure to ergonomic conditions
D. Psychosocial risk factors. Each function performed by a worker is broken down into tasks that are the subject of analysis. The risk factors that exist in the performance of each function are identified and the residual risk is evaluated based on pre-established evaluation criteria. Once the tasks and associated risk factors have been evaluated, the necessary prevention and protection measures are established to control those risks that cannot be eliminated and a plan is established for executing said actions, in which the responsibilities and deadlines are assigned.

- Reduce the number of incidents and the associated risk factor (probability and severity).
- Learn from experiences to avoid their recurrence.
- Contribute to improving the safety climate within the workplace.
- Contribute to the improvement of the objectives of the different departments in terms of safety.
- Encourage participation, professional development and empowerment of employees regarding their workplace and operations.

Occupational health services
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
At ELIX we have integrated the 24-hour support service with the health surveillance service, which facilitates accessibility and creates a relationship of trust with the doctor and other healthcare personnel, and improves the latter's knowledge of the job positions, tasks and possible associated risks. Based on the risk assessment of each job position, the Health Surveillance Prevention Service determines the medical protocols to be applied in the medical examination that is carried out annually for all employees. Analyses, instrumental tests and medical consultations are carried out in the facilities adjacent to the company within the industrial park where we are located.
In the case of new hires, reinstatements after a prolonged absence, or sensitivity associated with a pathology that has arisen throughout the year, a new medical examination is carried out and, if applicable, restrictions are established in the workplace to protect the worker. The published annual epidemiological study includes collective health indicators that serve to define health promotion strategies.
