COLOMBIA

l

Colombia is a country situated on the north-western side of South America. It has a territorial extension of 1.141.748 km2, a high percentage of it belonging to the Amazon region. The greatest wealth of Colombia is its population of nearly 46 million people. They are hard workers, entrepreneurs, cordial, friendly and hospitable people. The vast majority are mestizos. They are the result of mixing whites, blacks and indigenous people. The largest portion, almost 60%, of the population is a mixture of white and Indian. There are still numerous indigenous tribes, especially in the regions of Amazonas and Orinoco, who still preserve their customs and traditions. Its land boundaries are to the North, Panama and the Caribbean Sea, to the East Venezuela and to the South Brazil, Ecuador and Peru. To the West is the Pacific Ocean. Panama, in the past, before the construction of the Panama Canal, was part of the Colombian territory! It has oceanic borders, both Pacific and Atlantic that meet several countries of Central America.

They give the country a great variety of climates with a wide variety of ecosystems. Colombia is one of the countries around the world with the greatest biodiversity in Fauna and Flora highlighting birds, amphibians and reptiles. Due to the characteristic of the Andes region, inside the three mountain ranges, it is possible to find a diversity of geographic natural formation such as snow-capped mountains, volcanos, highland, rain and cloud forests, thermal waters, lagoons, valleys, canyons, plateaus, mineral deposit. TOUR DESCRIPTIONS AMAZONAS With the largest tropical rainforest and the most copious river in the world, the Amazon Jungle we share with our neighbours is another of Colombia’s treasures. It is a prodigious place, not only for the aboriginal people that inhabit it and the sheer size of the river, but also for the life it spawns and nurtures on land and water. In the Colombian part of a region, many call Amazonia; Leticia is a hospitable and comfortable city, surrounded by paths that lead to fascinating places in the Amazonas jungle, making it the main travel destination in the area. ■ Night Safari: 3 Hours Departure: 06:00 Return: 09:00 The lakes in the tributaries of the Amazon are unique ecosystems, with a profusion of great variety of wildlife. From lake to lake there are many differences, depending on the size of each and the type of forest surrounding it.. We will make a night time excursion in boats with capacity for 5 – 10 persons where along the banks we will discover the shining eyes of alligators, among which are found the This reptile is very similar to the crocodile and can grow up to 6.5 meters in length. Black alligator, an important fierce predator in the Amazon. The black alligator is under protection because since the last century, hunting of this animal (for its meat or skins) has reduced the population. Important Note: Requested minimum 5 pax ■ Nariño Port/ Tarapoto Lkes/ Handicrafts: 8 Hours Departure: 08:00 Return: 16:00 A complete run on the great Amazon River from Leticia where you can visit and admire diverse ecosystems. We will navigate to Tarapoto Lakes, a place inhabited by a great variety of species such as grey and pink dolphins, manatees, alligators, anacondas, and the largest fish with scales, the pirarucu. Important Note: Requested Minimum 2 pax ■ Cerca Viva Natural Reserve: 3 Hours Departure: 09:00 / 14:00 Return: 12:00 / 17:00 After a brief trip by car, we will reach a very special destination: the Cerca Viva reserve, a model of man-nature interrelationships and diversity of agro-forestry. Here we will walk the eco route “the dynamic of the jungle” with a space of interrelationship and environmental education, which brings visitors close to and illustrates the dynamic of the forest (flora and fauna). During the trip, it is very likely to be able to observe an incredible variety of fabulous insects, distinct classes of birds, boquiblanco monkeys, poison frogs, serpents, guaras and squirrels, among others Important Note: Requested Minimum 2 pax ■ Three Frontiers: Colombia, Brasil, Perú: 5 Hours Departure: 09:00 Return: 16:00 The Amazon is full of stories protagonized by its settlers, installed on the riverbanks, in villages with names like Leticia, Benjamin Constant and Islandia. Amid the silence of the Amazonian nights, the rumour of the river can be heard. Sometimes the mass of water light up with distant lightning which uncover the silhouettes of boats and houses belonging to inhabitants from three countries, whose existence goes by amidst an unchained river way. Just there the Amazon has its three frontiers: Colombia, Peru y Brazil. In the zone, exist a few colonies, although Colombian Leticia is the most solid. On the southern shore, Brazil has Benjamin Constant. There we will go through the village and visit the Ticuna Museum. We will end this day in one of the smallest localities of Peru, the ephemeral Islandia. The people of these colonies practice a dynamic community life. The colonial past remained behind, when Spain and Portugal disputed the supremacy of the great river, and seemingly, some later border disagreements has been buried. Now canoes, launches and boats of diverse sizes communicate these villages cleaving the waters of the Amazon. The people of Leticia like to drink caipirinhas in Brazil, while the Brazilians and Peruvians frequent the Colombian city of Leticia to shop. The residents of each locality, on the other hand, are a mixture of three nationalities and speak Portuguese, Spanish and portuñol (a combination of both languages).
