BEAUTIFUL DESTRUCTION the story.
The short story for the BEAUTIFUL DESTRUCTION duffle bag is that it was inspired by my love for bags and my need to create. As someone who has personally seen and had some many things fall apart and be destroyed around him, my response has been to innovate where necessity has demanded and start fresh and build anew when whole foundations have crumbled. I have never subscribed to the mentality of the victim. Build and destroy - destroy and rebuild. The journey towards creating the Beautiful Destruction and it’s addition to the Dirty Jones collection first started over 2 years ago in 2011. While searching for interesting and engaging fabrics, I discovered a sample of a very specific camouflage material and became truly inspired. Immediately, I decided to create a duffle bag out of the fabric. I brought the idea to the attention of a friend of mine and together, we agreed to bring it to life. However, as life journey’s usually go, it didn’t end up going exactly that way. Caught up in our own beliefs and worlds, I had a fall out with my friend, and as a result, the idea was put on hold. A year passed and I was still thinking about the bag and starting to obsess on how I could get it made. I knew I couldn’t let this idea die, I had to make it work and bring it to life. And that’s what I did. If there is one thing I’ve learned in this life, it’s that things don’t happen unless you go out and make them happen. So without the actual design/pattern completed, I did the part I knew how, I went and got the fabrics and materials that fit my idea for the duffle bag. The next roadblock was the actual design and manufacturing - getting this creation out of my head and into the real world. For the life of me I couldn’t find a bag manufacturer anywhere that was willing to work with me and to put my idea together. It was while still engaged in this futile search for manufacturers I fell into trouble with the law and was forced to do a little time. Incarceration. Refusing to let my dream die and knowing that jail and the streets were not my destiny, while in jail I set to work and finally drew up the duffle bag idea myself. Teaching myself, When I got released I had a sit down with the person I had fallout with - we fixed our problems and ended the feud and went back to being close knit friends. Destroy & rebuild. Finally, with my life back on the track I had envisioned, I was able to get the sample hand sewed. Obviously I remain excited. I couldn’t wait to take pics and share them. We had a great initial response and within that response an immediate and overwhelming response from the public to purchase the bag. It was then that I made the decision to make it into a collection and release it to the public. A tribute to struggle and the beauty that can come out of it. A dedication to the times when everything fell apart... but through dedication and perseverance, a new path opened up ahead.
