Will a Mini iPad Be a Threat to the New Samsung Note?
When rumors began circulating about Apple releasing a smaller sized iPad to be called the iPad Mini, a lot of people started seriously thinking they should sell broken iPad. You could say a lot of people want to be prepared for the eventuality of the event. It is said that Apple has been forced to develop an iPad in a small size so the company can compete with brands like Samsung, Amazon, and Asus, manufacturers that have been lording it over the mini tablet PC market. Apple would have to keep up with the competition or risk losing a big chunk of the market, which they are currently holding with the ‘normal-sized’ tablet PC. The Samsung Note on the other hand, is a product by Samsung, which is technically considered a smartphone. But then, the Note is way larger than most smartphones. The screen size of the Samsung Note is close to 5 inches which is a little smaller than the rumored size of the iPad Mini but bigger than an iPhone. Since it is considered more of a smartphone than a tablet PC, it has a clear advantage over the iPad because of its full phone capability feature. You can make and receive calls, as well as send and receive messages with it. Since it is a smartphone, you can also send and receive emails, browse the Internet, and chat with your friends because it can connect via a 3G cellular network.
But if rumors are indeed true, loyal Apple followers are still expected to go for the iPad Mini. After all, products coming from the Apple production line have been tried and tested to be really good and easy to use. This seems to guarantee the iPad Mini a ready big fan base if it does come out. So, the question is whether the mini iPad will really be a huge threat to the Samsung Note and other smaller sized tablet
PCs. Of course, it will accumulate and add to the fans it will have from the start by virtue of it being an Apple device. But then, having a smaller version of the iPad may affect sales of the regular-sized Apple iPad. The question is, would Apple want to dominate both market segments, the regular-sized and the mini tablet? Being the leader of both markets may make the company look like it is trying to dip its finger into everything and it may spread itself too thin. Moreover, Apple has been so successful as a company because its products are either pioneers or total revamps of those already sold on the market. If the iPad Mini were to be introduced to battle it out against the more established brands in the small tablet PC market, it has to have a ton of features that will revolutionize the field. For sure, it will affect the market share Samsung is expecting to get with the release of the new Samsung Note. What Samsung should do now, so people will be encouraged to sell iPad online, is to double time on its marketing efforts in advertizing the great features and capabilities of the Samsung Note. For Apple, it should give the market something revolutionary, as it always does.
