WHAT IS POWERSCHOOL?
PowerSchool is the fastest-growing, most widely used web-based student information system or database, supporting more than 9.5 million students in 50 states and over 50 countries. This student information system will provide AISR with the tools necessary to serve our students and families, as well as to streamline administrative procedures, online grading and reporting systems, and online learning tools into one secure, user-friendly system.
At the American International School of Rotterdam, we believe in challenging our students to become balanced, global citizens in an increasingly social and digital age. We use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to: • Enrich student learning opportunities and maximize individual success • Streamline and strengthen administrative processes and support systems • Foster communication between the school and the community Our ICT Implementation Plan centers on establishing conditions essential to the effective use of technology in an educational setting. Upgrading our Student Information System would address several conditions, including planning for improved digital communication, providing access to resources for all stakeholders, engaging skilled personnel in meaningful training, ensuring timely and reliable IT support, and centering learning experiences on students’ needs and abilities.
Why did we choose PowerSchool for AISR? Adopting a new Student Information System will empower the faculty, staff, and administrators at the American International School of Rotterdam to better serve its students and families. Through enhancing the efficiency of our operations with PowerSchool, we will continue to enrich student learning experiences and foster meaningful communication with all stakeholders. In pursuit of our ICT vision, we will Enrich Learning and Maximize Individual Student Success, - Allowing us to capture and visualize student data to drive student-centered decisions in curriculum, instruction, and strategic planning - Empowering students to be engaged in and proactive about their academic progress - Managing student data that allows for short- and long-term monitoring of academic, behavioral, medical, and emotional development and services - Providing a digital gradebook that offers students and parents immediate, meaningful feedback on student performance Streamline Administrative Processes and Support Systems, - Integrating separate silos of information for administrative, financial, medical, and instructional use into one secure system - Streamlining the admissions-to-enrollment process for new families - Eliminating duplicate data entry, saving time and reducing margins of error - Replacing our dated, unstable reporting systems with user-friendly, reliable, “all-in-one” data management, reducing user frustrations and time wasted - Disseminating essential inter-department information with one-click - Expanding basic gradebook functions, such as weighting, linkable assignments, and filtering, to provide feedback connected to school academic and behavioral standards. - Merging teacher gradebooks with our reporting system, for single-entry grading Foster Communication Between the School and the Community, - Increasing student and parent satisfaction through a centralized information system to improve shortcomings in vital communications

What can PowerSchool do for you? Offers an All-In-One Solution to School Communication Issues: iCal, TeacherWeb, the Shark and other announcements will be linked directly to teacher and staff log-ins, so each time you log in, you can access the newest events and information. The school calendar is also available from the home page. Parents and students will also have access to the school calendar, the Shark and school-wide announcements through their PowerSchool accounts. If regular logging on is not convenient for parents, they have the option to customize their email notifications. Options available include the frequency of communication, from daily to once a week, to any chosen email addresses. Provides Access to Centralized Student Information: You can see each of your students from your personalized PowerTeacher home page and can view personal information, contacts, course grades, student services, and medical details for students with just a few easy clicks. Eliminates Timely Double-Entry of Data: Student information is provided directly to your PowerTeacher gradebook, eliminating the need to request or recreate data from the Office Staff and avoiding the risk of data entry errors. Because PowerTeacher is directly linked to our reporting system, simply keeping your grades updated means your reporting is done. Accesses your Gradebook Anytime, Anywhere: PowerTeacher is a fully web-based gradebook that does not require any software installation. PowerTeacher transfers the processing required to run the user interface to the your computer, but keeps the bulk of the data (i.e., maintaining the state or the program, student data, etc.) on the main database. This provides you with a traditional gradebook experience, but with all the convenience and security of a web-based technology-- along with easy access. With PowerTeacher Mobile, iPadand iPhone-users can record observations about student progress while roaming the classroom, in the gym, on the playground, or on a field trip. Although PowerTeacher is web-based, it is not "browser-constrained" and actually runs independent of the browser. Because of this, you will not lose data you enter into the gradebook if your connection to the network or Internet is lost. In fact, PowerTeacher will allow you to input new scores while completely offline and save updated scores later once a connection has been made. Replaces the variety of grade-keeping tools with one common, user-friendly system: At AISR, we utilize a variety of systems to calculate and report grades. With a common gradebook system, we can standardize grade reporting to make feedback to students and parents more meaningful. PowerSchool provides a one-stop-shop of all the various attributes that might be entered for an assignment. This includes the score, assignment flags such as late or missing, and access to comment banks. Previous and next buttons make it easy to quickly switch from one assignment to another, or from one student to the next. You can easily attach multiple standards to each student's daily work, and assess proficiency on the fly with the new Standards Drawer. This creative approach streamlines workflow and helps you collect and report on a large body of evidence without requiring massive amounts of data entry. Links Resources, Rubrics, and Standards to Assignments and Grades: Because parents and students log in to view real time grades, attendance and assignments, you have the opportunity to take advantage of this attention by embedding links to resources that support a particular assignment or task. With the Class Content feature, you can maintain your own library of resources that can be linked to the assignments, or to the class description. This feature also allows school administrators to pre-populate, or push new resources out to different groups of teachers. Simplifies Necessary Administrative Tasks: Daily attendance is also completed in PowerSchool and is accessible to all PowerSchool users, so you can see if a student missed the whole day or came in late, and why they have missed school. Reporting also helps track attendance over time. Tracks Student Performance Over Time: Grade, attendance, and behavioral history is available for the full year, allowing you to identify and monitor patterns and improvement in performance.
