EMERGENCE

CONCEPT - EMERGENCE The concept of emergence represents sustainability and the structure’s reaction to the landscape. Sustainability is an “emerging” thought in Roanoke, so this structure needs to embody this thinking and visually impact the community in a way that they remember.

01 EMERGENCE | CRADLE TO CRADLE RESIDENCE

SOUTH FACING // ENTRANCE The structure seems to emerge out the landscape, creating a form that embraces the existing landscape and attempts to alter the least amount of it as possible. The forms embody this concept on the exterior of the building. But forms created on the interior of the building attempt to portray the shape on the interior as well. FINAL FORM

Suburban City is a conceptual high-end retail establishment that relates the every-day life of a Torontoresident to a new shopping experience. A TTC subway car, a recognizable feature of Toronto, is used to brand the space yet also enable the brand to move to other cities. These cars grant the shoppers an experience that allows them to relate to the space but also sheds new light on an object they use daily.
