DROPS INTO RIVERS
CONCEPT MODEL
CONCEPT SKETCH
The opportunity of the concept is to create an eating disorder treatment center for adults over the age of 18 that provides housing, various levels of treatment (mainly residential), mental and physical therapy (individual, group, family, and experiential therapy), meal support, and overall well-being healing in Columbia, South Carolina. The concept, Drops into Rivers, will mirror the natural use of water. Water is vital to our bodies, lives, and entire well-being. Its use as an everyday element echoes how users of the space should develop mindful habits. Organic forms and soft colors in the environment help ease the users’ minds with the high stresses of change and recovery. Just like the transparency of water, the environment needs to be just as transparent in order to help the user to fully recover. The light and reflection of water will be reinforced through both rooms as well as the users’ minds of thoughts. The curves of water and flowing lines are mirrored in the furnishings with soft colors and edges. The design will possess a strong connection to these water elements to engage users and create communities while helping all who inhabit the space feel relaxed, have a sense of safety, and find hope to support their well-being.
