MEET THE DESIGNER

01

My name is Elizabeth Gibson and I am currently a senior at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. I will graduate in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and a minor in Building Science. As a designer, my goal is to create a livable and functional environment while highlighting people’s personalities. In my free time, I love to go hiking in the beautiful mountains of Boone. I am passionate about helping others and volunteering. My all time favorite hobby is playing with my puppies, who bring me so much joy.

MOCK-UP

Users connect their phone to an individual pod to gain knowledge on how to use SketchUp or learn about a specific topic they want to learn about. They can learn anything within 3 minutes.

Once learning how to use SketchUp, the various industry users are able to collaborate together to create a 3D structure that encompasses all the industries’ skill tasks in the SketchUp software.

At the end of creating a virtual project on SketchUp, the users can physically print a 3D model to take home with them. They can also save their QR code to work on the project at a later time.

CONCEPT:

OBJECTIVE:

Collaborating with Building Science majors in a non-traditional course deliverable at Appalachian State University to plan, design, build, and commission real projects for real clients. Due to COVID-19, our original projects were shelved and therefore changed to a new project and working virtual in teams.

The IDEXlab experience provided a professional office-like setting (completing 40 hours per week) where students and faculty collaborated on a variety of projects compiled throughout the semester gaining real life scenarios and practice.

03 Programming: to build a primitive hut that fits a life sized person. Design Considerations: Function, Form, Economy, Time Group Members: Elizabeth & Whitney Gibson The model: Ollie the Chicken

THE MMAC Problem Statement: Covid-19 patients compromise the health of other patients in the hospital. With Covid-19 patients occupying a large portion of the hospital, essential/profitable surgeries have stopped, creating financial strife and causing job insecurities for the Healthcare system. By creating a field hospital, it will free up the space needed for elective programs as well as provide a clean, safe environment which will help prevent cross contamination within a hospital. Programming: empathize, interview, find the need/ opportunity, and program Group Members: Elizabeth Gibson, Shelby Schnaars, and Bryson Peters
