A PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR THE FRENCH QUARTER PROJECT OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL PROGRAM ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, MAINE LOCATION SPRING 2011 DATE
In a world domi-
nated by advances in digital technology, this library for the French Quarter highlights the precious nature of the books by placing them in a symbolic housing. The pinwheel shape and ramp create a spatially exciting journey through the stacks and reading rooms, which branch off of the tower like arms.
Areas unrelated to
the books (i.e. gallery, cafe, community auditorium) are housed in solid areas covered in metal panels. The difference in materiality, and the skewed orientation of the tower enhances the play in contrast between the two zones.

THE HORIZON PROJECT OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL PROGRAM ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, MAINE LOCATION SPRING 2011 DATE

perspective of entry, storage, and rock climbing wall
This project was a proposal for the Horizon Outdoor Leadership
school located in Acadia National Park, Maine. The intent of this project was to create a camouflaged facility in order to minimize the visual presence of the built against the natural landscape. Using reflective glazing, living walls, and locally found materials, the structure attempts to blend into the surrounding landscape and foliage. In another attempt to blend in to the landscape, the built structures “fan out in line with the contours of the slope. The structure is also located in the most densely wooded part of the site, offering slight glimpses of architecture as one traverses up the hillside toward the building.

This project proposes a complex featuring a library and galleries with as-
sociated scholars units. The design focuses on the protection of a central “core gallery made of lightweight bamboo and glass, surrounded by heavy masonry. The areas subtracted from feature a stucco material rather than heavy masonry. The circulation ofthe plan is laid out as a journey through the galleries in a sort of spiral approach. Community spaces located in areas central to the scholars to promote communication between them.

ing Center, in New Orleans. The goal of this project was to create a warehouse complex without creating an overbearing typical warehouse space. Instead, the project sets up a series of boxes with sliding doors, connected by a large super structure in an attempt to make the warehouse as porous and accessible as possible.
short section
The box-like structures of the warehouse, showroom, mill shop, and lobby are separated from each other in an at-
tempt to create outdoor rooms. The walls of the built areas slide in order to blur the boundary between inside and outside. A roof supported by trusses over the entire site protects the materials in the mill shop and warehouse from the elements. The truss also acts as a uniting force between the seperate entities of the OCBC structures.

ILLUMINATING THE VOIDS PROJECT GALLERY AND APARTMENTS PROGRAM S. DIAMOND ST., NEW ORLEANS LOCATION FALL 2010 DATE
south diamond street elevation
This project had a very distinct problem, being wedged between
two warehouses. How would light get into the space? To do this, the building has a system of voids carved out of the sides of the space. This is barely apparent on the exterior because otherwise the street edge would not be maintained. In section the voids become apparent, as well as the layering of single and double height spaces with large glass panes.

The goal of this project was to create an edge on the site in order to make the area feel more like a quad. I wanted to create a porous edge that engaged the neighborhood as well, so there is a passage-way under the building, and a covered trellis walkway/patio on the side touching Zimple Street. The plan focuses on open spaces. The building is primarily glass, allowing light to travel through the building at all times of the day.

The goal of the “Site as Dwelling, Dwelling as Site project was
to create a landscape and set of buildings that spoke to each other. The largest of the buildings is the main house, the next is a gallery, and the building closest to the lake is the studio space. The design focuses on the contrast between horizontality and verticality by creating a set of stretched out, low lying buildings and horizontal paths, in a forest of high reaching, thin-trunked aspen trees. As seen in the building sections and site plan, the site and buildings are orthogonal, to enhance this contrast of horizontals and verticals. section looking north
