Sylvester Stallone has dabbled in home-screen acting, but now, he’s going all-in.

The action icon who made Rocky Balboa and John Rambo household names tackles a new character tailored to his style in “Tulsa King,” a Paramount+ drama that begins streaming Sunday, Nov. 13. Created by Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) — also an executive producer of the series alongside Stallone and “The Sopranos” alum Terence Winter — the show gives the star his first continuing weekly role as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, who leaves a 25year prison term expecting to

CoVer sTory

be rewarded for literally having killed for his Mob boss.

Instead, he’s exiled from New York to Tulsa, Okla., where he builds a new “crew” of his own from some of the diverse people he encounters.

The regular cast also includes Emmy winner Dana Delany, Martin Starr, Max Casella (“Doogie Howser, M.D.”), Andrea Savage, Jay Will (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Garrett Hedlund.

Stallone’s history with “Tulsa King” dates back to the start of his familiarity with Sheridan. “I met Taylor a while back, actually,” the actor-filmmaker says, “riding horses in California. I wanted him to write the screenplay for ‘Rambo,’ because I was getting lazy. Anyway, we moved on. Then he became

very, very successful with ‘Yellowstone,’ and one day, he just had this idea (for ‘Tulsa King’), called me up and pitched it to me in, like, three seconds. And I went, ‘I’m in.’ ”

Having such an underworld role has been “kind of a fantasy” for Stallone, he notes, “since I was rejected to be one of the 200 extras who basically stood behind a wedding cake in ‘The Godfather.’ I’d been trying to get in gangster films, and it just never happened. Everything comes to those who wait.

“Also, I wanted to play a different interpretation of a gangster,” adds Stallone.

“This is a fellow who’s very educated ... reads Marcus Aurelius, reads Plato. He’s into Machiavelli. He’s a different animal than you would

normally see in a, quote, ‘gangster film.’ ”

Long after landing TV jobs on “Kojak” and “Police Story” in the mid-1970s, Stallone made appearances on “Las Vegas” and (as himself) “This Is Us.” As he now shoulders his own series, he deems it “harder, faster, and longer” than making a movie.

“You really have to be quick. You have to work out of sync a lot of times, with sequences that don’t follow the natural order of things. But most importantly, you have to keep your energy up. The amount of time we did ten episodes is the equivalent of doing five ‘Rockys’ in a row, with no break in-between. I have great respect for the crew in their diligence and endurance.”

Brunson takes the reins for Knicks

Over the past two decades have yielded some ignominious point guard play at Madison Square Garden.

Players such as Jarrett Jack, Chris Duhon, Pablo Prigioni, Raymond Felton and washed-up versions of Derrick Rose and Jason Kidd have come and gone and haven’t exactly enthralled rk Knicks faithful. But in Jalen Brunson, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Indeed, in their new floor general the Knicks have imported a solid playmaker and ball handler who can create off the dribble, score from midrange and potentially get the New York offense humming.

The fifth year man out of Villanova had his breakthrough year last year with the Dallas Mavericks, when he registered per-game averages of 16.3 points, 4.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals. He was also an efficient scorer, shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range.

His performance was enough for the Knicks to sign him to a four-year, $104 million contract in July. Of course, he will no longer have All-Star wing Luka Doncic as his running mate. But the hope in New York is that he will team with power forward Julius Randle and swingman R.J. Barrett to form a formidable New York scoring attack. After decades of disappointment, Knicks fans are taking a wait-and-see attitude. unson and the Knicks can be seen in action on the road twice this week: Tuesday, Nov. 15, on TNT, against the Utah Jazz; and Friday, Nov. 18, versus the Golden State Warriors on

“The Last Waltz” (1978) The final concert by music’s The Band is documented brilliantly by Scorsese, who had been aneditor and assistant director on “Woodstock.”

“Raging Bull” (1980) Robert De Niro nabbed an Oscar for his remarkable transformation as boxer Jake LaMotta in Scorsese’s gritty biography, also boasting superb supporting work by Joe Pesci.

“The King of Comedy” (1983) Robert De Niro is typically great as an obsessed fan, but the true revelation in Scorsese’s comedydrama is Jerry Lewis, in a knowing andrather chilling performance as the talk-showhost who’s the object of the obsession.

“The Color of Money” (1986) Paul Newman reprised the role of pool shark “FastEddie” Felson, and won an Oscar for it, in this unofficial sequel to “The Hustler” thatalso marked a significant career step for Tom Cruise. Notable in the cast as well is Forest Whitaker

“GoodFellas” (1990) Widely consideredScorsese’s masterpiece, this first-rate, factinspired crime drama casts Ray Liotta as a Mob novice mentored by veterans (Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci – who won an Oscar here as a hot-tempered underworld lieutenant – and Paul Sorvino). Always worth observing in a viewing of this film is the superbly chosensoundtrack, sort of a hit parade spanning the 1950s through the 1970s.

“Cape Fear” (1991) Robert De Niro offers a chilling update of Robert Mitchum’s 1962 role as an ex-convict targeting hisformer lawyer (Nick Nolte). Smartly, Scorsese gave Mitchum and original co-star Gregor yPeck roles here, and the first version’s Bernard Herrmann score is used again.

“The Age of Innocence” (1993) Edith Wharton’s novel gave Scorsese the means to dive atypically into a period drama, beautifully executed.

“Gangs of New York” (2002) Another period piece, but with much more energy, was Scorsese’s saga of the conflict between mid-19th-century gang leaders (Daniel DayLewis, Leonardo DiCaprio).

“The Aviator” (2004) Scorsese’s portraitof reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) also captures the era’s Hollywood in great detail. Cate Blanchett won an Oscar as Katharine Hepburn.

“Casino” (1995) Many key “GoodFellas” players including Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and co-screenwriter Nicholas Pileggireunited with Scorsese on this saga of Las Vegas and the Mob. Sharon Stone was astrong figure in that year’s film awards, winning a Golden Globe as the woman inthe De Niro character’s life, for better and worse.

“The Departed” (2006) Director Scorsese earned a long-elusive Oscar forthis Americanization of the Hong Kongdrama “Infernal Affairs,” with a cop(Leonardo DiCaprio) and a mobster (MattDamon) infiltrating each other’s spaces. Jack Nicholson contributes superb supportingwork.

“The Irishman” (2019) Some clever technical trickery helps Scorsese trace thecareer of an underworld deputy (Robert De Niro) over many years.

OF ‘CHICAGO FIRE’ ON NBC

Now that Severide and Stella are married on “Chicago Fire,” is the dynamic between you and Miranda Rae Mayo still as comfortable in playing the parts?

She’s been great. And there is more Stella and Severide stuff to come. I would miss it.

We didn’t get decent weather (for the wedding episode last year). It was raining and sleeting, it was cold, and it was almost May. Best-laid plans, right? We only had the location for a day, and I think it turned out great and looked amazing, thanks to everyone involved ... the director of photography, the camera operators, everybody. That was a fun day. It was beautiful, and I hope that everybody really dug it.

How do you feel about continuing to have your work base in Chicago?

I’ve been in Chicago for 10 years now, and I’ve gotten to know the area through my work, which is fortunate.

Though he came back as Matt Casey in last season’s finale, how is it not to have your former co-star Jesse Spencer around. I miss him. He’s surrogate family, like a brother. When you spend that many years being a foot away from someone and looking him in the eye and telling so many stories, and that goes away ... yeah, I miss him.

During the “Chicago Fire” hiatus periods, you don’t seem to do much work. Is that by choice?

I was on the grind since I was 22 or 23, and the work is when you’re not working. I would do the show and then do a movie and the. Go back to the show, but now, I’m in Serbia or I’m in Morocco or I’m in Egypt. I’m just away.

Then you go, “It would be nice to spend time with family or friends,” so the past three or four years, that’s what I’ve been doing during the hiatus.

Blizz just wants to show Santa that his original inventions can make Christmas even better — you just have to believe in yourself.
