HOTEL DEREK TERRACE SUITES:
The Hotel Derek Terrace Suites began as a small budget conscious renovation project to upgrade six suites. Working closely with my design director, we developed unique concepts for each suite based on Houston people, places and culture. The wallcovering encompasses the individual character of each room. We carefully curated the artwork, accessories, and pillows to reflect the design of the suite. Kalisher, a hospitality full service art company, designed the wallcoverings in line with our design direction. The Terrace Suites received fantastic reviews from the Houston design community. Hotel Derek was featured in Houston Modern Luxury, Houston Modern Luxury Interiors, Forbes Travel Guide and more. http://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestravelguide/2016/06/17/10-hot-hotels-to-visit-right-now/#57dad8d47be5 http://digital.modernluxury.com/publication/?i=307181&ver=html5&p=34#{“page”:34,”issue_id”:307181}

LOOKING WITHIN:
I N TE R IOR ATMO SPHERE OF MIND, BODY, AND SOUL
Looking Within: Interior Atmosphere of Mind, Body and Soul; began in August 2014 with the proposal to research a current issue of great interest. The issue was humanistic psychology; the theory that strives to promote inner growth and self-achievement through creating a person-centered approach to psychological health. The focus of Looking Within examines how best to apply humanistic concepts to an interior environment that support wellness of mind, body and soul. The project type resulted in a center for community and well-being. Once the proposition and project type developed, research continued on the theory of humanistic psychology, precedent studies, site selection and program development. The location, New Orleans, Louisiana, was selected after careful consideration of which building and area would best support this project type. The research and precedent studies formed a solid groundwork into which the program could be created. The program consists of three types of areas including administrative spaces, recreation/community space and therapeutic spaces; within the administrative spaces are offices, lobby/entrance, storage and a staff lounge. The recreation/community spaces include a restaurant, living room for residents, residential living quarters, large and small meeting rooms, and a small shop. Last, the therapeutic spaces include a chapel, private meditation spaces, private counseling rooms, spa, fitness room, yoga balcony, and art therapy studios. The goal is for the community to use the center as a place for relaxation, renewal, and personal healing. The relationship between patients and the public is cohesively integrated and separated where necessary. The focus of Looking Within provides an interior atmosphere that encourages meditation and contemplation. The center provides numerous areas where the user can relax, take personal time or interact with the community. Careful selection of materials, color, and lighting aided the creation of an interior atmosphere within the center. Included within this book is the hard work and dedication required to produce Looking Within; Interior Atmosphere of Mind, Body, and Soul.

CONCEPT STATEMENT Repetition constantly happens throughout the natural environment. Flowers are repeated throughout a field, their pedals create beautiful patterns. Waves in the ocean repeat over and over with direction from the moon, creating motion and textures in the sands. Nature is always growing, changing, and repeating rhythms. As plants grow they develop in a process, each part must be developed in order for the plant to become fully grown. Human beings directly interact with the natural environment; we are products of nature. As our bodies develop they are constantly changing, evolving, and adapting. The learning processes of humans should correlate with the rhythmic process that we see in nature. We learn best when we repeat actions over and over until we master a certain task. As we learn we develop certain patterns and techniques that work best for each person to enhance their learning process. Each individual has a rhythm of learning; they must go through certain motions in order to fully understand the material they are studying. NEXT University strives to integrate each student’s rhythm of learning, as well as addresses the remaining design drivers including: active learning, blended learning, wellbeing, and palette of place. RESEARCH STATEMENT In order to create an innovative learning institution for NEXT University, the design drivers including: active learning, blended learning, rhythm of learning, wellbeing, and palette of place, will be incorporated throughout the university. Each design driver has been thoroughly studied and concept design solutions have been considered for each. Each concept design solution provides methods of integrating the drivers into numerous spaces throughout NEXT University. Most importantly the university will be a fully functioning educational facility that promotes active learning in every space. Active Learning creates an environment that encourages students to learn through the best methods for themselves and the pedagogies that work greatest for the teachers. NEXT University strives to be a cutting-edge learning institution that develops future society leaders and innovators.

BATON ROUGE TE CHNOL O GY H U B
An adaptive reuse project designed as an addition to the redeveloped River Center Branch Library in downtown Baton Rouge. The facility serves as a technology hub providing the public with access to several state of the art technologies. The technology hub balances the positive and negative effects of active technology use. Dramatic volumes of juxtaposing curvilinear and rectilinear shapes create captivating ceiling elements throughout the space. All drawings and renderings produced using Revit and Photoshop.
