- Primary and Secondary Research - Quantative and Qualitive Research -Methods of Research


Primary research is new unique research. This means information that you yourself have aquired. Examples of primary research would be things such as questionaires, surveys or interviewing small groups of people or individuals. Qualitative Research is to do with asking people their opinions in a clear structured way. This includes surveys and questionaires. This can be used to help companies make decisions based on what the consumer wants and to improve their products.

Secondary research is using information already found out and gathered by other people. For example exsisting research. This is usually published sources which are publicly avaliable such as information in a book or on a website. Quantative Research is lead heavily by data and statistics. It puts across what people think using numbers and data. It is more reliable than qualitative but is less detailed.


Methods Of Research Questionaire- A set of questions with a range of answers

Focus Groups- A group of people put together to discuss a project before it is launched. Observations- The action or process of monitoring someone or something. Interviews: Structured- A quantative research where all questions are in the same order often used in surveys. Semi Structured- Method where new ideas can be brought up in an open interview. Unstructured- No set questions but interviewer may have planned things to discuss. Using Secondary Sources- The method of evaluating evidence and sourcing information which is not your own.
