Frank the Consumer. A poem by Jordan Fox

Frank Jones was from Jonesville, and was kind and sweet, Frank Jones was hungry, but had no idea what to eat, He first ate some melon, flown all the way from Peru But Frank was still hungry, “ NO THIS JUST WON’T DO” Frank searched high and low for something more real, But all Frank could find was an unhappy meal. Then he growled, his fingers nervously drumming, “I MUST find some way to stop this hunger from coming!” Frank then got desperate, as desperate as Frank could be For with little control, Frank then ate an entire TV. Magazines and newspapers were then wolfed down with force, He thought this would fill him. It didn’t of course. He hunted and strived for something more filling “If I’m not full soon, there will be a killing” Frank quickly stood up; his stomach growls in despair, He reached out and ate his whole leather armchair. His tables and lamps! His Malm from Ikea! His phone, then his clothes, what a strange idea! He ate half his house, and then ate the other, He swallowed his car, all one after another. Franks hunger kept growing, and stomach kept turning He could not stop the pain and not stop the yearning, He then had an idea, a quite simple wonder He’d eat a person, start with the toes then tear them asunder. Frank started out small, a couple of hands and some feet, But his hunger would grow with ever person he’d meet. He ate first his doctor, and then ate a priest, Was there nothing that could fill the stomach of Frank the beast? He ate up his family and all of his friends, Was there nothing Frank could eat to make this torture end? He felt very lonely as his tummy grumbled, ‘Now I’m all alone’ a sad Frank Jones mumbled. Frank had done something awful, he had to admit. Now he was left all alone, to cry and to sit.

Notice how this deadly sin destroys. Gluttony is not about obesity; gluttony is about what we unite ourselves to. Gluttons wed themselves to meals over and above what is good for them and by devouring more and more, they have less and less.
