I wanted to put a small presentation pack together to explain a little more about ElliotJames and the ideology behind the brand. I also wanted to share how ElliotJames has come to be and the aspirations for the future. The brand began as a single practice but has quickly expanded into multiple disciplines allowing ElliotJames to adapt and develop in a number of different areas, which in the current economic climate seems vital in order to survive. I hope you find this booklet interesting, and where possible, I look forward to future collaborations and ventures together. Elliot Barratt, Director

B a c k g r o u n d From the day I was old enough to put crayon to paper I would design. Every spare scrap of paper would have a sketch of some kind on it. I have always thought big! At school, when other children would be making musical instruments from bean cans to create a shaker, I made a drum kit. Instead of a remote control car, I made an articulated lorry. That is something that has never changed.

I wanted the brand to have a style that would represent the ideology of ElliotJames. My design style is one of minamalism. Clean, classic lines, Stylish, timeless colours and I wanted these elements to be shown in every piece of furniture designed and every interior decorated. Using simplistic fonts and mono tones, I think that has been achieved. I wanted ElliotJames to be very modern, high-end and luxurious, but most of all I wanted the brand to remain timeless and something that could grow and encompass more than just one discipline. The dream is to design a lifestyle, much like Fendi Casa or The Conran group and Candy and Candy. From developments, to interiors and products.

E x p e r t i s e With nearly ten years of experience and qualifications in graphics, furniture and interiors, ElliotJames has a wealth of knowledge in design. However, everyday offers new challenges and opportunities to learn and develop. “I feel very fortunate to love what I do and practice something that is such a passion. Constantly learning about something that I love so much is so fulfilling and a true true blessing. I would have to say the biggest hindrance would be only having one pair of hands. Another would have to be not having enough hours in the day to put down all the ideas constantly overloading the brain.

D i s c i p l i n e s ElliotJames currently covers Graphic design, Furniture design and Interior design. ElliotJames can take a project and create a complete brand from a company name, to logo and corporate colours, websites, through to studio and office design and even the desks and bespoke furniture that sits in them. ElliotJames can design residential properties and rooms around a single bespoke piece of furniture to compliment each other. The dream is to create the bespoke artwork to sit above the bespoke bed sitting in the bespoke room, designed to show every detail of the clients personality and tastes.

generatingideas For me, one of the most exciting points of the design process in all disciplines, would have to be the idea generation and concept stage. Various creative minds, around a large table throwing ideas at one-another. ...Then to take these ideas and put pen/pencil to paper and seeing those ideas come to life. With no real boundaries at this early stage, anything is possible!

F u r n i t u r e The furniture is where it all began... A piece of furniture offers so few boundaries, limited only by the imagination, in this day and age, with the technology available, these boundaries are becoming fewer and fewer. It is a dream come true to realise a design that had spent so much time whirling around in my head. I love to design furniture that stops people in their tracks, something that is a little different from the everyday, whether through its form or through its function and ads real wow factor.

Endless configurations

I n t e r i o r s I’ve always loved interior design and have always been intrigued how colour schemes, finishes and decoration can transform space. How fabrics and textures can compliment or destroy a feeling of harmony. How a room can be made to feel warm, cosy and inviting or cool, fresh and stark. I’d always wanted to show the style of ElliotJames in a room, not only by way of the furniture in it but by everything else surrounding it too. I can’t help but look how I would put my stamp on a space and how I could incorporate my personality along with the clients into a room, leaving a lasting signature and making it instantly recognisable as an ElliotJames.

As Head of Design for The Telegraph and with nearly ten years of experience, The ElliotJames style naturally took on a very clean and structured form. Clean lines and slim fonts with lots of room to pause and admire the design and layout, the creative took a very minimalist shape and has now become a signature of the brand which is seen through all platforms, web, print, furniture and interiors. It is the clean lines of the EJ logo and simple black and white shades that give the Elliot James brand such icon stand out.

ElliotJames and the Sync range were featured at the Ideal Home show 2011, for the Virgin Media home of the future exhibit. The cubes were a big hit with both the hosts and the public. It is always so satisfying to see the positive expressions when the seating sinks. ElliotJames has also been featured in a number of magazine publications and books.
