Editors Letter: It’s been an incredible year at Elliott Hudson College, we have all achieved bigger and better things than we could ever have imagined. This is a years round up of the events that have happened and the experiences we have had. Enjoy and have a lovely summer! Lizzie Priestley

The first year at Elliott Hudson : Tom Fitzsimons: The 30th of June was an emotional day for all; with the inspiring speech from recovering alcoholic Tom, who captured the attention of the EHC students for a whole hour (a great achievement within itself). Telling us how he turned his experiences of Domestic Abuse and alcoholism into something great. Giving us a real insight in what it takes to pick yourself back up when you fall down.

Broadcasting Truck: Bradford University visited the college with their huge broadcasting truck Bertha, which has filmed at big events such as the regional Children in Need event and local football matches. Media students had the chance to go inside and learn about all the filming and sound technology which was located in this moving production studio; alongside tlaks about what its like to be part of the boradcasting proffession.

Art Exhibition: A great opportunity to display the results of a hard year of work for the art, media, film and product design students. Also the moment when we could all take a step back and breathe a sigh of relief that our work was finished and we didn’t have to ever see it again! ‘it was exciting to get everyone involved, the students were chuffed to be able to show off their work to peers, parents and staff’ – Drew Nicholls (Art and Media Student)

Michael Foale: The visit from ex NASA astronaut Michael Foale was an incredible experience for those who attended, the surrealism of his experiences captured the attention of not just EHC students but Bruntcliffe, Morley, Farnley and Swallow Hill science students. With him sharing his experiences of space travel and the intense training he went through to achieve his dreams. Showcasing to the students how hard work can pay off to achieve your dreams.

Battle of the Bands: Oh what a night! Full of live entertainment and fun; with excellent displays of talent from Yesterdays Kicks, Kasbah, 13 Black, and other special guests. A range of music taste all combined into one amazing evening for everyone! ‘Better than the Brits!’ – the lead singer of Elliott Hudsons very own winners Yesterday’s Kicks.

3 pairs and a Spare: A small group of EHC students dedicated their Wednesday afternoons all year to producing a product and a marketing campaign to go with it. They entered the area final in where they presented their product to a panel of proffesional business men and women. Walking away with awards such as Most Innovative Company and Best Teamwork and Communication. ‘It was great to be able to experience how a business truely works outside of the classroom’ Anna Wilby

London Trip: A group of 18 students went down to London for 2 nights. Enjoying the luxury hostel and a night in the west end. The group really enjoyed the trip which was full of fun, laughter and Margharetia pizzas. ‘This trip has been amazing, we have been to the London Eye, London Dungeons ... We went to see Wicked, highlight of the trip!’ - Claire Lister

The EU referendum: The 23rd of June 2016 was a big day for the whole of the UK, and there was a huge build up in the college, with banners and Governments and Politics Students going to local primary schools and The Bruntcliffe Academy to give information to the students about the remain and leave facts. The students of the college visited our own polling station on the day. With the majority vote being Remain.
