ANNOUNCING THE COMEBACK OF YOU ME AT SIX Written by Danielle Ellis
After over 18 months of waiting, British rockers You Me at Six unveiled their plan to release their fifth studio album. Prior to the announcement, the band sent their fans on a frenzy, posting photos with no explanation of what was happening, with rumors swirling that a break up may be in their future. You Me at Six held an hour long livestream, where nothing was said by the band, just what seemed to be a giant game of hangman that lead to realizing the hashtag #nightpeople, was actually their soon to be released new single, premiering on BBC Radio. Later on the band announced that ‘Night People’ was going to be the name of their new album, expected January 13th 2017. This will be You Me at Six’ fifth studio album. Amidst the craziness of releasing the new single and announcing the album, they also dropped a European tour, which sold out within three minutes. In a message posted on the band’s facebook page, they called these shows “some of the smallest shows
we’ve played in the UK in forever... We can’t wait to play up close and personal with you again... We’re back for good.”

RECAP: G-EAZY, LOGIC ENDLESS SUMMER TOUR Written by Jessica Padover
The highly anticipated Endless Summer Tour, featuring headliners G-Eazy and Logic, including performances from Yo Gotti and YG, gave the massive crowds in over 19 states an incredible visual and auditory experience. Each performer brought a unique energy and sound to the stage, which allowed fans of all styles of rap to come together for the night. Although G-Eazy and Logic have different personalities and approaches to their music, it made sense for the two rappers to tour together after their recent successes in the hip-hop community. Only a few months ago, G-Eazy, the Bay Area native, dreamed about selling out arenas during his When It’s Dark Out Tour with A$AP Ferg. Even though he has reached this point in his career, G-Eazy
6
remains humble and appreciative of the journey. Logic, who also finished another tour earlier this year, surprised fans by releasing his new mix-tape Bobby Tarantino shortly before joining G-Eazy on tour. The crowd seemed to already know the words to several of these songs he debuted on this tour. So what’s next for these two artists? In between shows and after parties, G-Eazy has been working on his new mix-tape, Endless Summer 2, which should be released later this year. Similarly, Logic continues to work on his upcoming album while enjoying his time off from tour, by spending time with his family and playing his favorite video games. Be sure to keep an eye out for what’s next for these two rappers as they continue to take the music world by storm.

MEET YOUR NEW FAVORITE BRITISH BAND Written by Danielle Ellis
Meet your new favorite British boys Van, Benji, Bob, and Bondy, who makeup Catfish and the Bottlemen. I was first introduced to them during a car ride in Venice California and was hooked. Catchy guitar riffs and smooth lyrics depicting the ups and downs of relationships, and the struggles of long distance love, loss, playing hard to get and heartache. Catfish and the Bottlemen have two albums out. Their debut called ‘The Balcony’ was released in 2014 and is my favorite album released by them. The album has no filler songs, every song could be released as a single and stand alone, something which I felt was not executed in their sophomore album ‘The Ride’.
Catfish and the Bottlemen have somewhat renewed my faith in good Indie rock. They hit the nail on the head with relatable lyrics to your average teenager through twenty something, dealing with life as a whole. They released two EP’s prior to the release of ‘The Balcony’, one called ‘Poetry and Fuel’, and my personal favorite titled ‘Kathleen and the Other Three’, referencing the girls the songs were written about. Simply witty and hilarious. Their sophomore album ‘The Ride’ is well put together with more of a rock vibe, and heavier drums and riffs. I definitely recommend checking out both albums. I’ve added my favorite songs off each album on the next page.

ALBUM REVIEW: DIRTY HEADS SELF-TITLED Written by Joe Schubert
The fifth album release by the Dirty Heads happens to be their first self-titled album. If you have followed or listened to The Dirty Heads since the beginning, you can tell why this album is a self-titled. From their first album, Any Port in a Storm, to the last release, Sound of Change, the Dirty Heads have kept the audience guessing as to what direction they wanted to go. Any Port in a Storm offered lots of hip hop themes mixed with impressive reggae beats. They have continued to mix genres from earlier album, Cabin by the Sea, to their latest edition of their music. On this latest album they have meshed all of that sound into a masterful and upbeat, easy to listen to creation. When you start the album you are hit right in the face with a fun summer theme song ‘That’s All I Need.’ This song brings some old school fun to the forefront with the musical arrangement and lyrics. The Dirty Heads brings catchy yet clever lyrics that make you want to bounce your head and enjoy the days of summer. Whether you are at a BBQ, at the beach, or having some beers in the back yard, this song makes a perfect backdrop for enjoyment. Following ‘That’s All I Need’ with easy to listen songs like ‘Moon Tower’, ‘Smoke & Dream’ and ‘Red Lights’, this album brings another type of chill to your ears. You can’t help but to immerse yourself into the
eclectic, yet catchy tunes, with their reggae, ska, and hip hop roots. The evolution of the Dirty Heads is apparent when you compare this self-titled masterpiece to their first three albums. You can truly say they have a unique style that is all their own. When you want to bring the energy up, do not overlook ‘Oxygen’ or ‘Too Cruel.’ These songs rely heavily on their reggae influences, while digging down deep to the lyrical masters they are. There is no wasted instruments, yet subtleties and hooks that make you want to put these songs on repeat. The Dirty Heads latest self-titled album has touched all of the genres and legends that have influenced them over the years. There are very few albums that you can run from top to bottom and not feel like all songs sound the same, however, Jared Watson, Dustin Bushnell and company have achieved it. It would be hard to review this album without mentioning their most recent Red Rocks show in Morrison, Colorado. This was the Dirty Heads third headlining show and third sell out in a row at Red Rocks. The rain may have dampened every ones clothes but their spirits were kicked into high gear as soon as they hit the stage. Now take a moment to sit back, put this album on repeat and feel the music bring you into their SoCal state of mind.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH Written by Danielle Ellis
Bay area native, Marc E. Bassy came out full force and hungry for stardom. The first time I heard Marc was last year on a Skizzy Mars track called ‘Come Back.’ Marc carries the hook with a smooth soul and r&b take, adding just what this track needed. December of last year Marc released ‘East Hollywood’, a nine track album with single ‘Some Things Never Change,’ and ‘Show Me’ featuring G-Eazy. In January 2016, Marc jumped on the When It’s Dark Out World Tour with fellow bay area native, G-Eazy.
Marc is featured on ‘Some Kind Of Drug’ off G-Eazy’s sophomore album ‘When It’s Dark Out,’ which they performed together every night on tour. While on tour, Marc and G-Eazy collaborated again to create ‘You and Me’, currently in radio rotation around the country. On August 5, 2016 Marc released a much anticipated five track EP called ‘Groovy People’, which charted on the top 100. Look out for Marc E. Bassy on the road this year, as he’s soon to be a household name!

TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY Ellis Music Magazine turned two years old on August 20, 2016. I am so thankful to be able to create this publication, every second of hard work is well worth it. Not only is this our two year anniversary, it is also our fifteenth issue. Fifteen has been my lucky number since grade school and with this issue we will be changing our format a little bit incorporating more photos, colors, artists and writing. To all the bands and publicists who have given me and my staffers the opportunity to follow our dreams. Thank You. To my friends for the endless support and encouragement, to my Mom for believing I could do anything I set my mind to no matter how crazy; and to my big brother Tyler for putting me on this crazy path and guiding me. Thank You.

A ‘DON’T MISS’ EVENT THIS YEAR! This two-day music festival is taking place at the Lone Star Brewery in San Antonio, Texas October 29th–30th. Mala Luna is one of the newest events being put together by the Texas-based promoter, Scoremore, whose festivals in the past include The Illmore and JMBLYA. Not only is Mala Luna incorporating the community into the festival itself, it is also
donating a portion of each ticket sold to the Network for Young Artists (NYA). The NYA is a local non-profit that provides classes in voice, guitar, percussion, keyboard, and dance for youth in San Antonio. Tickets for the festival won’t break the bank either. A 2-day pass is only $119 and is available at www.malalunamusicfestival.com. 43
