His work for The Face & Arena magazines during the 1980s earned him critical acclaim and public recognition; a far cry from his critizised beginnings.

When completing his B.A. course, Brody was condemned for his experimentation, with his tutors deeming his work uncommercial. As punk rock gained momentum in London, so too did Brody's motivation for creating and thinking outside of the norm. This desire to push the boundaries nearly cost him his college career.

From there, Brody made a name for himself as the art director of magazine publications. At that time, magazine layouts and formatting were basic and structural. He wanted to break the mold and provoke a reation from the reader, a reaction that would have people taking in each page wholly, rather than flipping and browsing. Brody's experimentation paid off. His styling and direction revolutionised magazine publishing, and his influence can still be seen today. His influence was such that after a time, he purposely changed his style to differ himself from those who sought to imitate him.
