Biker Letters

By Hiroshi Naganuma

What it is to be a Biker Hello Bikers, I am proud to present you this beautiful project to share my passion for motorcycles. I thank my family, my partner, my friends and a person who made my destiny move in this direction and make this project a reality (Carito, sorry we do not share this moment). We have many topics to share and learn. I hope that with this publication we will grow and learn together to be better Motiers every day and become an example for the community of the world. Not being more, we present our son, written by bikers for bikers, the collectible only for bikers...

Hello, Bikers. This is a space dedicated to all the biker brothers so that they can communicate with the whole brotherhood.

Every Biker (Motero) can be a motorcyclist, but not every motorcyclist is a Biker. In addition to being a motorcyclist, the Biker is a person who cares to equip his motorcycle (wheels, brakes, etc.) and himself (helmet, gloves, etc.); enjoy not only the road, but everything that surrounds it. He knows that the world of motorcycles is not just going from point A to point B, but the path between the two points. A true Biker shares with others all their experiences, whether of their adventures or techniques. He never abandons another brother on the road when he is in trouble, always looking for ways to help him with everything he can or knows. Through this publication, not only will learn to be good motorcyclists, can also earn the title of Biker.

Events, news, technical data, information, questions, warnings, opinions, photos... Take this opportunity so that we can all find out or help. Write to us: elmoterocoleccionable@gmail.com A hug and we are in contact. Live to Ride and Ride Safety.

BMW G 310 GS AND MORE

“British attitude, classic custom style and unmatched behavior” is the motto of this new member of the Bonneville family. In the video you can analyze that it has a circular main headlight with LED technology, trimmed exhaust pipe, spoke rims and the image of the engine makes us think that it is a 1,200 cc with 77 hp at 6,100 rpm and 106 Nm at 4,000 rpm, like his sister Bobber. If it is the same engine, it is very likely that it will have the same 92 km / gal output, which will give us many kilometers of autonomy and fun. Let’s hope on October 3 to know this beauty.

The future has come hand in hand with Arata Oono, founder and CEO of Bordeless. This innovative helmet made of polycarbonate meets DOT, ECE and JIS safety standards. It has a transparent and folding double screen. You can access data such as navigation, weather and phone notifications. It has a rear camera, a side light in LED security and discreet, hands-free system for communication by phone or other helmets, automated control for the auditory field and touchpad side to interact with the helmet (works with gloves). Everything that is needed in a helmet and, in addition, ensures comfort. Its estimated price is $ 1,799 dollars.

After seeing the F 310 R, BMW surprises us with a more adventurous one, the G 310 GS. Sharing the physical characteristics of his older sisters, we see a motorcycle that invites us to adventure. An engine that offers us 34 horses with a torque of 28 Nm and ABS brakes that can be deactivated. According to reports, the German house also has two surprises ready for us, the F 850 GS (which replaces the F 800 GS) and the F 750 GS (which replaces the F 700 GS). At the moment there is not much information about these two, but they have already been filming and testing on European streets. There are many physical changes and, visually, a lower seat height is seen.

AGV PISTA GP R CARBON ANNIVERSARIO

YAMAHA TENERÉ XT700Z 2018

This limited edition of AGV is the definitive helmet for competition. Improvements include the hydration system included, the metal vents developed in MotoGP and the rear spoiler tested in the wind tunnel to improve aerodynamic performance and stability at high speed. Its exterior structure 100% made of carbon fiber 3K, offers some lines that minimize interference with the competition monkey. Its interior with adaptable adjustment, prevents seams in the most sensitive areas. It incorporates a system of emergency extraction of the lateral padding in case of accident.

Last year Yamaha surprised us with the T7 Concept, which was the first prototype of the XT700Z (replacement of the XT660). It will have a two-cylinder engine in line 689 cc with 75 hp of power. In addition, wheels 21 inches forward and 19 back. Its approximate weight will be 175 kg with a fuel capacity greater than that of the T7 prototype. This new off-road will be one of the most anticipated for 2018 by bikers with an adventurous spirit. Let’s wait for the event in Milan, EICMA, to learn about this new proposal.

YAMAHA STAR ELUDER BAGGER 2018

This beautiful girl has a V-Twin engine of 1854 cc, cooled by air, and a 6-speed transmission. Its traction control offers two modes: the Touring and the Sport. Its front disc brake of 298 mm and rear of 320 mm comes with ABS system and supported by the Yamaha Unified Brake System for braking of the best quality and precision. Among its luxuries is a 7-inch LCD screen to see all the information. The navigation can be through the touch screen or voice commands via bluetooth. Other standard luxuries are the smar key, USB ports and another 12V to charge all devices.

My Bike By César Muñoz

My unstoppable BMW R 1200 GS When you’re riding on that bike, it’s like... being on a luxury yacht or a car with all the law. Because it has its heater on the handlebar, the controls, the electronic accelerator, the cruise control (almost nobody uses it but it’s crazy, because in long straights, one is not accelerating or braking, it is not doing anything), all the modes that has the bike (rain mode, road, dynamic, enduro and enduro pro, where the response of the engine, brakes, suspension is adjusted), the aids (ABS brakes and traction control). If the motorcycle is heavy, for the passenger and the luggage, you can raise the height thanks to the ESA; It is the electronic shock absorber that performs this function. The LED light, which is what I most applaud to the design of this motorcycle, is incredible. And many, many, many things more than one does not end impressed... with its board, technology and all that. There have been several hard tests that I have done in all these years. For example, in La Guajira, where they are only sand dunes and pass through sand, where one is almost buried, it is almost impossible; I have also been in wells of water, in rivers, mud, clay that almost does not walk, large rocks where one has to walk one without thinking.

6

I had an experience like in 2015, near San José del Guaviare. A route that goes from Granada to Puerto Gaitán. We went 8 bikes and, for some reason, took us to a route where we advanced 2 km in 8 hours. It had rained before and it was a clay that stuck to the rims and, with the mudguard, the front rim was totally blocked, or one was buried, plus the heat of the plains. It is the strongest route we have made for weather, weather and road conditions. One of the things that I decided for BMW is because it could be uncovered in it. In a few words, the range of opportunities to go on the road, or to put it on a track or uncover... I could go where I wanted to. It is a multifunctional motorcycle, in that aspect it has everything. The experts compare it with other bikes and other brands and always come to the same conclusion, you will never see it as the best in the different categories, but when you collect all those scores, the best is BMW. It is not the best in all conditions, but it manages to do all of them, it is the most complete, it is like the Swiss army knife. That is the concept of the R 1200 GS, it is the best to go through the different types of terrain. In the market there are many brands, the one that goes allied with BMW is Touratech. They

are the ones who work hand in hand to have all the accessories in the market, the motorcycle comes out and they already have all the accessories. That’s a catalog like 20 or 30 sheets just for BMW. So, the most important thing for this bike is the motor protection bar. There are different brands, even BMW has its version, but the advantage of Touratech is that it covers the cylinder from all angles, while there are others where there are some exposed points. Another advantage of these bars is that, if you fall, nothing happens.

The R 1200 GS is a war tank. You pull another motorcycle and you split the handle, or the fairing, or the directional... with this, having the motor protector, nothing happens.

For something to happen to you, you have to be the perfect stone with the perfect tip and that you fall exactly... that 1% chance for the perfect disaster. But I, on this bike, for all the uncovered I’ve done in more than 3 years, never a fall has affected me something.

In addition to the Touratech engine bars, I have installed some protective caps for the cylinders. So that the stones do not get to pierce the cylinder, but only the caps.

GPS, which is an option (because it comes with support, but not with GPS), but it is a good option. To the left command they integrated a knob where it can be controlled; It is brand Garmin, BMW Motorrad Navigator VI, and is already available in version 3.4. You have to get it because you can use it with the knob (which is something innovative) and because it is connected to the motorcycle. In the conventional screen, 2 or 3 data appear, but in the GPS up to 20 data appear simultaneously... speed, tire pressure, consumption, voltage, distance... everything you can imagine. Even, once disconnected, it keeps information about how many times it was stopped, how many times it was tilted, how many degrees it bent... If one wants to get the juice out of this motorcycle it is to buy the GPS. From there, it depends on the needs of the people: the side cases, the top case, the protector of the cardan, the front tubes, the skip plate (suddenly buy one that protects more).

Another important thing is the protector of the front lamp, since that lamp is a complete unit. If it is damaged like 4 or 5 million the arrangement, then it is better to get the acrylic protector, which is worth 200 or 300 thousand. There are others that change the windshield for a higher or lower one, protector of the oil... rather, what you want. As for tires, BMW comes with a brand of Anakee 3 Michelin. I, with those tires, do and undo, me. If you ask me about the preferred tires, they are the Anakee 3; because it is a tire that lets you curve, go to bed, go to racing mode; I have gotten into neighborhoods, puddles, lagoons, sand and I have taken it out. Suddenly one suffers a little more than with one of tacos, which is another issue, but I’ve done it, I’ve done it.

8

I’ve been in a field where people were with tires of tacos buried and I, with my tires, I have removed. For me those Anakee 3 are perfect, I do not change them for any other.

Already on the subject of the passenger, that seat is a sofa. The fundamental thing is to have a top case and it is indisputable. Regardless of whether one is comfortable, in an acceleration the copilot goes backwards and the driver does not feel it, because he is holding on to the handlebar and does not feel that inertia. But the co-pilot, having that top case, will be more comfortable because he has as a backup that will lower the feeling of the lash of acceleration. Obviously motorcycle is motorcycle, after 3 or 4 hours either tires, but this is a motorcycle that, both the driver and the co-driver, are very comfortable. The height of the saddle is a little higher and this makes the helmet a little higher and prevents the helmets from hitting, the feet rest are good.

I started when I was 25 years old. I acquired my driving license and the Yamaha BWS which was 2 times back then. I realized that in costs and times it was a benefit, since it was cheaper and it took me up to 40 minutes less from the office to the house.

Once we went through Guatavita with a friend who had a Vespa, the other a GS and I with my BWS. I was struck by the GS500, he even lent me that day to try it out. Things happened and after one year of buying the BWS, I sold it and bought the GS500. With the group Power to the Limit I had my first important outing, out of many, that went to San José del Guaviare, in 2006, it was red zone. We went like 60 motorcycles and had to ask for permits from the mayor’s office, even the guerrillas. We stayed like 2 or 3 days and it was amazing. It was a route where there was even red earth. I could have the experience of going out to know Colombia and I was left with the shin of adventure and breaking boundaries. In 2007 I decided on the Bandit. It was not the fastest, but it had a very linear motor response, from 0 to 230 km / h. They were 6 years with her, with very good experiences. I sold that motorcycle with 60,000 km, it was like a little tank of war... I could handle it all. In 2013 I went to the launch of the new R 1200 GS. A launch in good BMW style, with all the law, excellent service, the show... they had 2 crates like 3 meters high... there was an explosion and the bikes were out of the crates, there were some on the floor covered with cloth and they raise the fabrics... it was love at first sight. I sat in one of them and I told myself... someday. My father supported me so much that we went to see her. The financing system was excellent and the policy was supremely economical. I made the process and, without realizing it, a matter of a month, they were already giving me the keys to a high-capacity one. 9

As a good biker you are, your motorcycle must know. We will try to explain some basic concepts for beginners, in which we will show the main parts of a motorcycle. Later we will delve into each one of them.

PRIMARY CONTROLS Handle, accelerator, front brake, rear brake, clutch or clutch and shift lever. SECONDARY CONTROLS Fuel tap or stop cock, steering lock, ignition switch, choke or choke, ignition cut-off or engine shut-off button, directional, headlight switch, high and low switch, horn button, start button , boot of leg, speedometer,

tachometer, indicator lights or control panel, lateral and central support. MIRRORS Also known as side mirrors, are to inform the Biker the traffic that is behind in the rear area while driving.

supports, provides rigidity and form to a vehicle. In the case of a motorcycle, it consists of a frame that integrates with each other and holds both the mechanical components, such as the power train and the suspension of the wheels. It has nothing to do with the body or the platform. OIL DEPOSIT

CHASSIS It consists of an internal structure that

in depth in our next editions, since each of these points is extensive and we do not want to overlook any detail.

ESCAPE The exhaust system is the set of pipes or ducts that allow the combustion gases of the engine to escape into the environment. WHEELS ENGINE

PRIMARY TRANSMISSION It includes all the elements that are responsible for transmitting the movement of the crankshaft to the clutch. SECONDARY TRANSMISSION The 3 types of motorcycle transmission: chain, belt and cardan. They are the best and most common ways to transmit the power of the engine to the wheels of a motorcycle. To understand its importance, differences and know how to choose the best one, it is fundamental to know each system in depth.

Here we find many confusions. The wheel is the complete set that composes it: the rim, the wheel, the tire, the air chamber (some lack this camera - tubless) and the spokes (in some cases).

Change in my life...

Realize or not the

ZIGZAG

To understand the National Traffic Code, you must first understand some definitions. According to article 2 (definitions), motorcycles are two-wheel motor vehicles in line, with capacity for the driver and a passenger. All this means that we, as Moteros, must know the National Traffic Code and keep in mind that any rule that speaks of vehicles, it is also up to us.

12

al lights and signals optical or audible and perform the maneuver in a way that does not interfere with traffic, or endanger other vehicles or pedestrians”. I know that most of them buy a motorcycle only to avoid the traffic jams and to walk at full speed between the vehicles, but one must have knowledge of the traffic rules. This is the best way for the police officers not to be bothering them.

Thus, Chapter 3, Article 60 (obligatory nature of transit through demarcated lanes) says: “vehicles must transit, by their respective lanes, within the demarcation lines, and cross them only to carry out overtaking maneuvers or crossing”.

I wanted to touch this topic because I’m tired of seeing how many brothers are getting injured and, in the worst case, killing by walking between cars at speeds that go beyond the safe and allowed.

We, as Moteros, must travel within the demarcation lines and not on them. We have to drive the bikes behind the cars and not between them. Legally we are obliged and for the safety of each one of us, we also have to do it.

When it comes to finding a hole, I have more room to maneuver and dodge safely, than when I do it between cars. In the zigzag mode, I have to go into the hole and pray that nothing happens to the bike.

Another important point is what Paragraph 2, Article 60 tells us: “Every driver, before making an overtaking or crossing from one road to another or from one lane to another, must announce his intention by means of direction-

I know that the other vehicles are not used to seeing Bikers who are behind the car but, over time, if we join, we can teach them that it is possible to do so.

I’ve been doing the maneuvers for 1 year that the law tells us. At the beginning I felt like a rookie when I watched the others go all over on my two sides, avoiding the long and heavy rush hour. The funny thing is that it did not take me long to realize that they were driving more stressed than me; calculating whether or not they pass through the narrow space between the mirrors or fighting with the other vehicle that closed them, without realizing that the vehicle was dodging a gap. On the other hand, I felt, in a certain way, calm. I had time to stretch, to think about other things in my personal life, analyzing people, and I was even able to talk with other bikers who were doing the same practice, about the bikes we had. I have learned to get up earlier to get my appointments relaxed and calm. Before, I arrived stressed and tense and that did not make sense. Although I do not believe it, I have enjoyed my bike more since I’m stuck in the jam. I have met many people doing this practice. I have been able to avoid so many holes, that if I had not avoided them, surely, both my bike and I, we would have suffered considerably. Now the bike is another story, it is an adventure trip, enjoyment and enjoyment. If you do not believe me, make the attempt, I challenge you to try this for 3 months and I know that you will understand what I am saying. Whoever does it, write your experiences to elmoterocoleccionable@gmail.com For my part, I can tell you that my driving style has changed and I will not manage in the other way, unless it is a life or death emergency; Being late for an appointment or work is not a life or death emergency and, much less, complying with a boss’s order.

Health and safety By Carlos GarcĂa

One of my adventures without direction and with winds of 35 km / h, made me think about this article. I had already had adverse weather conditions, but few tips to handle with wind. So, although they were not so extreme winds, here are some tips that can be very useful.

10 tips to drive a motorcycle with wind The situation is similar to receiving a small push (depending on the strength of the wind or the weight of the bike), the heavier the bike, the more difficult it is to move it. Well, consider the following for handling in this circumstance. 1.- Slow down a little and reduce inertia. If you usually go to 120 km / h in 5a, reduce your speed to 60 km / h and try to go in 3a. This will exert more traction on the wheels and it will be more complicated for the air to move the motorcycle.

you lose control of the bike. Not for this reason should stress the position, since the motorcycle can be steered in an undesired direction. 3.- Do not step on the line or side of the road. If you tend to take a curve cutting very close to the dimension (as is recommended), this time it is important to maneuver as little as possible, for this the reduction of speed is important, so that you have the opportunity to give a wider margin of error . If you cut right by the limit, a wind can make you invade the opposite lane or leave the road. 4.- Avoid opening the helmet visor.

2.- Keep both hands on the handlebar. If you usually relax the position on the handlebar when you go straight or feel in control, avoid doing so, because a sudden air can make

14

Although the speed is optimal to go freer, avoid leaving your eyes uncovered. You can hurt them with some trash or the same air; This can compromise your driving.

5.- Identify the direction of the wind. It is important to know where the wind comes from; although on many occasions it comes from all sides, it has a direction tendency. This will help you to know what margin of space to give in the curve and where to stand on the straight. On the line it will allow you to see what displacement and direction the wind produces. Use that reference when taking the curve, but do not trust, you may be surprised by a crosswind. 6.- Extreme caution when passing a truck or bus. Do not forget that the air, when hitting any surface in motion, intensifies the effects of jump or rotor that can attract you in the direction of the truck or bus. Try not to exceed curves or very clear areas as they are the most vulnerable areas. Try to put yourself in an aerodynam-

We are bikers and our pleasure is not the destination, but the way. That makes the difference.

ic posture, stick your body to the bike. When leaving the overflow, be very careful of the air blow. 7.- Identify the balance point of the motorcycle. You will have to exaggerate your movement or weight in a point of equilibrium, in case you get an air. You may need to counterbalance at times. Sharpen your senses and analyze the behavior of your bike with the different bursts.

9.- Better safe than sorry. If you check the weather before leaving, check the speed of the wind gusts. It is better to postpone a trip than to find yourself in bad situations along the way. We are used to investigating if it is going to rain, to leave, and we forget to consider the wind as an adversity; Many times the wind is a worse enemy than water. So do not ignore it and remember that it is better to prevent.

8.- Observe everything around you.

10.- With winds of more than 40 km / h do not go on the road.

Watch carefully shrubs, grass, water and other moving vehicles. This will allow you to identify where the air is coming from and will help you control the operation of the motorcycle a bit more. If the boxes of the trucks move, try to find a place to stop, it is better to stop until the strong wind passes.

Use a climate application to prepare for a trip. Carefully review all weather aspects one day before and one hour before leaving. Do not forget to check the wind speed at each rest point and, if it is higher than 40 km / h, it is preferable to postpone or take a break in your trip, until the wind stops.

We hope you will be served with these tips and remember that a motorcycle trip is to enjoy, so avoid putting yourself in complicated situations. Always check the condition of the motorcycle and the weather before traveling. In every trip, load with the necessary tool and a first aid kit. Happy Rolling wishes you The Biker.

Remember that the behavior of each motorcycle depends on the height, the balance point and the weight of the vehicle itself. Even our own weight and luggage can interfere with the way we drive.

Whenever this topic is going to be discussed it is important to ask that it be done with a lot of respect; For anyone who really knows the MC world or is learning about it, it is a secret that there are many people who take their lifestyle very seriously and it is easy to offend with a bad comment. I also want to clarify that this information does not only come from the internet, but from my own experience in the MC world and the history of motorcycles for some 80 years, its well-established rules and that we share here, as all the information we provide, with the sole purpose of providing MOTOR CULTURE to those who need it and decide to

accept it. Unfortunately in many countries of Latin America, the concepts have been diverted and many people have decided simply to do things their own way without considering international rules and traditions that deserve respect, basically and to enter fully into the subject, you have to understand something: in the MC world the main rule is “respect and you will be respected”.

••Have a minimum of 5 members. ••Establish positions in the group (board of directors). ••Own motorcycles. ••Establish the foundation date for the club, group or association. ••Choose a name that does not belong to any national or international club. ••Define a meeting place.

Now, getting into the subject, we will mention the types of groups and / or clubs that exist and their characteristics. Let’s start with the sine qua non characteristics of any motorcycle group:

Once fulfilled with the aforementioned, we can differentiate each type of Motero group in our next edition.

The movie

By Hiroshi Naganuma

I have seen this documentary more than 100 times and I never tire of doing it. Directed by Bryan H. Carroll, in 2013, it is THE DOCUMENTARY. Every time I see “Why we ride” I have had tingling moments in my stomach, bristling skin and / or lump in my throat. In my opinion, it exceeds the two installments of “On any Sunday”: first, because its original condition of the 70s charges the tribute of limited technical and production resources; to the second, without that condition, for obvious reasons of the evolution of this art, in addition to the support of the producer of Red Bull. The emotion that comes out of this new proposal is closer, honest and real. People like you or me, able to live the motorcycle in the way that only those who have made the bike their life can do it. And it’s not about money, fame or glory; We talk about experiences that suppose an invaluable gift each time they are enjoyed. That and nothing else is ‘Why we ride’. It’s an explosion of emotions... I challenge you to see it with a non-believer, the documentary is so strong that it sure turns and sees the bikes differently. All biker should see this documentary.

The route Bogotá - Villa de Leyva - Bogotá By Hiroshi Naganuma Since I have a motorcycle, I have made this route twice without stopping. The two were for the same reason, the same woman. They were the most difficult moments of my life; difficult decisions that only the road and the company of my motorcycle could solve.

my heart reach the same conclusion... come back, look for it and keep fighting for her. There are moments in life that we find difficult decisions to make, but we, as bikers, have an advantage and, no matter how complicated life is, we can always take a motorbike and start on the road until the Let’s clear up and let’s know what is best for us.

I could say that the road is full of incredible landscapes and spectacular villages, as well as delicious places that we can find almost anywhere in Colombia. But this trip, more than tourism, was to put the house in order.

It does not matter which route we take, because I made this route by accident. I started the trip aimlessly and, when I realized it, I was in Villa de Leyva.

I took Nightwing (that’s my Avenger 220 name) and I left with my mind and heart full of conflicts; each one told me what to do, but while the mind told me to go, my heart said go on and fight.
