That winter, a knotch was added to his mother’s list of unsuccessfull projects. In an honest extension of maternal love to an outsider, she returned empty handed, void of any affectionate reciprocation that I imagine any mother hopes to achieve. He, on the other hand, dettached from his mother’s feelings about the situation, decided that if he were to view things as if he saw right through them, this type of pain would never reach him. And so, that winter, another knotch was added to his cynical list of life’s deceits.
