Finhaut 2050. A change driven valley
Remember when it started Some time ago we received a letter, it was starting more or less like this...
Brother, Dear Ijust got home now and I wanted to thank you loads for welcoming me this summer. I had an amazing time -it was so refreshing to come back to the village, to enjoy the mountains, and to see all the changes that happened there!
Ican’t believe I took so long to come and visit.
TERRAY
The Alps, more than a territory Lionel Terray
In the valley everything has changed
What an alpine valley needs? What are the meanings of sustainability, development or mutations in the alpine context?
When he arrived in the valley he found a completely different setting, how it could have been possible such a change in that sleepy valley?
There is the need for imagining new ways for developing this harsh although beautiful alpine landscape and culture. This project is searching for a vision that could deeply transform the way of relating ourselves to this territory. That’s why a great importance has to be given to the process to reach the final goal. It should never be imposed on the land, but has to be implemented with the strong role of locals; not only intended as who is living there, but also who has deep feelings for it. What we are going to do is to build a set of tools [a toolbox or a lunch nest] to progressively reach a more resilient and sustainable community.

From Weimar, Germany, one of the most appreciated contributors of our review, the most caring and positive engineer on earth. pan•op•ti•con | noun Usually in the past depicted as a circular building, working as a hospital, prison or library, so arranged that all parts of it are visible from a single central point. In our case a building making possible for a single person to observe all that happen in the valley.

Not only sport was needed If sport and adventure events are bringing people in the Valley and are important sparkles for it; studying a more sustainable developmente is fundamental and there was no time left.

It is fundamental that the valley will not rely on a single energy source in the next years; there is the need for a more diffuse and smaller scale network of productive sites to improve the environment and local community. Energy production has to be linked with the agricultural production and the touristic activities happening there.
E
nvironment is an issue felt in the Alps. That’s why we choose to use the spaces and call the best lecturers. They will find the perfect setting for experiments about mobility, energy, agriculture, food or education and to divulgate them. The interest of people and sponsors made the festivals more and more known around the world. Even the dam has became a major touristic attraction capable also to raise environment awareness among people coming to visit.

I am happy to see that the Conference on Mountains & Visual Arts is still happening in October, I’ll probably buy tickets for this. Also the program of the next A Bloc festival looks nice, I like the fact that we can vote for some of the events as well... It is a nice interactive App.
T
he main objective of the FInhaut app is to reinforce the process of participatory design as well as widening the range of crowdsourcing outside the town. In this app you will find basic information about the town, a guide to the empty and appropriated spaces. The app also will feature a QR –code Scan which will be a link to direct you to a site where all the ideas will be collected and analyzed carefully. Another huge feature of the app is to inform and connect with people from Finahut living all around the world.

eing a connected valley means a continuous flux of informations, people and exchanges around and about the Alps. The main goal of this process is to make the panopticon becoming a symbol for this long process thet will forever change the face of the valley of Finhaut. A symbol of the meaning of the “power” of a connected, active, involved and resilient community that deeply loves its environment.
