Rio Hondo College hosted a transfer fair on Valentine’s Day, bringing different universities and useful information to the hands of students. As graduation day approaches, scholars were handed the opportunity to chat one-onone with the counselors of other schools here on campus.

Representatives visited from universities such as CSULB, UCLA, UCI, and many more, even including out-of-state schools such as Grand Canyon University.

For those who graduate this Spring 2023 semester, await school acceptance letters and look forward to graduating this upcoming May. “Honestly, I am trying to decide between Cal State LA or Cal State Poly Pomona,” says student Val Canizales, who is currently in her last semester here at Rio Hondo.

Canizales is majoring in social work and says she’s very undecided. The transfer fair was a great chance to ask any

Kruspkaia Molina questions about the various campuses to narrow down which options are beneficial or not. There were also students that won’t graduate until the following Spring 2024 semester, but nonetheless, attending the Transfer Fair is essential in exploring the various options for a scholar. Some of the representatives of the schools were natives of Whittier For example, Cynthia Chavez, born and raised in Whittier, currently attends Cal State Fullerton. Chavez now helps other fellow Whittier students get a better understanding of where to go. The fair is all about community and bringing students together to help one another in their career paths. Those who have surpassed the community college level and want to guide students in the right direction were present, chatting with the upcoming graduating classes of Rio Hondo College. At the end of the fair, they handed out some delicious complimentary tacos on behalf of the school. Students should be attentive for the next Transfer Fair to get all the information needed on specific schools and possibly eat some great food.
