El Pedrueco In the heart of Asturias In the Cider shire 33529 Viobes—NAVA

ASTURIAS—SPAIN Telf.: 985 716838 - 630031058

El Pedrueco is a restored traditional Asturian country house. It is situated in the heart of the Cider shire, in the borough of Nava. The house has a typical “corredor” (balcony) from which you can contemplate the valley dotted with little hamlets, as well as its surrounding mountains.

From the balcony A traditional Asturian “hórreo” (elevated granary), and old baking oven, garden, orchard, and lovely secluded spots will make your stay a pleasent one, full of peace and tranquility in very special location.

Under the old “hórreo” a delightful spot to rest El Pedrueco has got its own parking area. In the garden you can sit under the arbour, very pleasant during summer evenings. There also a games room where you can find both table and outdoor games (table tennis, darts, petanque), alongside the old Parking and well garden

baking oven.

Visitors can enjoy candlelit evenings in the arbour, listening to traditional legends and tales. These relaxing moments can be accompanied by a “culín de sidra” (glass of cider), the traditional drink in Asturias. At the front of the house guests can either dine in the arbour or just sit and chat there. It is a perfect spot where, occasionally, you can even enjoy live music.

The tree is the most perfect element of the vegetable kingdom, and it´s magic also the most powerful. It´s roots represent the earth, earth, it´s branches the heavens. The trunk is the connection between both worlds.

The names of the bedrooms refer to the three traditional trees in Asturian culture: “E Texu” (yew tree), “L' “L' Ablano” (hazelnut tree) y El Manzanu” (apple tree). All of the furniture in these bedrooms has been restored and decorated in our own workshop. They all have enen-suite bathrooms and with hairdryer. El Texu The yew tree The yew tree is the sacred tree in Asturian mythology and represents the link of the Asturian people with the earth, with old religions and our ancestors. It symbolises spiritualy.

El Manzanu The apple tree The apple tree represents immortality. The Apples, when cut horizontally have the shape of the five pointed star, which is the talisman of power. When cut vertically the apple takes the shape of the female genitals, symbolising the power of regeneration. L' Ablanu The hazelnut tree The hazelnut tree provides the wood to make the walking stick, and symbolises magic power and authority, hence it´s name the pacifist´s weapon. Furthermore, this wood has always been the support for walkers.

Asturias and the Cider Shire, both fare well from the sea (with a vast range of fish and seafood) and from the mountains where cattle and sheep are fed by their green pastures, apart from this we can´t forget home grown green vegetables.

It would be unthinkable when visiting Asturias not to sanple “les fabes” (butter beans), the essential ingredient of the most famous of Asturian dishes: “la fabada” (pork and beans stew)to taste fish in a thousand an one diferent ways, el pixín (monkfish), la chopa (bream), salmonete (red mullet). From the seafood:

Visitors shouldn´t forget el oricio (sea urchin), la andarica (small crab), la ñocla (crawfish), el centollo (spider crab), el bugre (lobster), almejas (clams), and percebes (barnacles). From the rivers salmons and troust are the best option.

From the range of meats, the variety of “carne roxa” (Asturian beef) has an exceptional quality, together with pork spicy sausages like “chorizo”, “morcilla”, or “chosco”.

The “pitu de caleya” free range chicken, deserves a special mention, as well as

Try “el bollu preñau” (roll stuffed with chorizo), and the immense range of differents cheeses -Asturias is

the variety of montain game (wild boar, roe deer, deer). one of the richest cheese-making regions in Spain- just to mentionsome of them: Cabrales, Gamoneu, Afuega´l Pitu, Porrúa, Vidiago, Beyos.... •

A wide range of typical pudding and cakes: rice pudding, “frixuelos (similar to crèpes), borrachinos, casadielles, carbayones...

...And finally, the Asturian drink by excellence: cider, obtained from appels in a “llagar” (cider press) and fermented in “pipas” (big barrels) made of chestnut wood. It can be appealing for first time visitors to watch how the cider is poured over the head into the glass held in the other hand, to get the right fizz.
