Martin and Claudia Kelsey have run Casa Rural El Recuerdo for over ten years and have keen interests in ecology and ornithology, conservation and social development. Peter Delahaye will be your watercolour coach for the five day workshop. He divides his time between studios in Venice and Bangkok and has painted landscapes in many different locations.

Packed with landscape diversity and great tips If you are looking for a way to relax and still work with a paintbrush to discover art that you’d left behind at school, then this is the workshop for you. We have created five painting days with itineraries that help you explore the landscape diversity of Extremadura. I informed the Mayor of Trujillo that he is “sitting on a goldmine” when it comes to the stunning landscapes that we’ll discover of these five painting days, says Peter. “I’ve painted in many parts of the world and this is my absolutely favourite location”. We encounter vast dehesa landscapes, arid areas with dotted holm oak trees. The colours in autumn are blond ochres, olive greens with unreal ultramarine skies, then rain showers green the landscape and give us wonderful cloud formations
to study and paint. Autumn is a wonderful time to paint a countryside full of contrasts and diversity. We will have fun taking lessons from our demonstrations, done together, into the field and explore real en plein air painting possibilities. There is also an urban perspective to integrate into the week’s experience, that of the lovely town of Trujillo. We can paint a variety of vistas, those secret inside a garden, or others massively public like Plaza Mayor! There are plenty of opportunities to go from figurative to abstract, especially in the last two days. A chance, too, to study reflections in streams and pools, interpret rock formations, types of vegetation in the dehesa landscape. And an exhibition to hang on the final evening!
The five-day itinerary takes us to a variety of landscapes carefully chosen to match skills. Everyone last year surprised themselves at how much progress they made – and how many pictures will end up framed! Have others given you feedback?
