Best Websites To Sell Used Textbooks By Gregory Pearcey
As the end of the semester rolls around, you don't need to find cheap college textbooks to rent or buy, but instead you need to find the best places to sell used textbooks. This is why I decided to do some research on the best websites to sell used textbooks. Now our study does not include the campus bookstore due to the fact that the majority of the time it is not the best place to sell used textbooks. So instead of going to the bookstore my time was spent researching websites. In all, the survey includes 15 different websites including 12 of the largest online college textbook stores and three of the biggest online retailers to see who has the best website to sell used textbooks. For this survey, I decided to use ROBBINS BASIC PATHOLOGY as a test book, as it was available for buyback on all of the websites included in the survey. Please note as you look over the results from my survey that the best website to sell used textbooks on will vary depending on what used textbook you are planning to sell. It's probably worth your while to do your own research to find the best website to sell used textbooks on using the list of sites provided. The top 10 websites to sell used textbooks online are as follows:
1. Campus Book Rentals: $41.69 2. Textbooks R Us: $40.00 3. College Book Renter: $39.00 4. Bunches of Books: $38.70 5. Phat Campus: $37 6. Text Book Stop: $33.90 7. Book Byte: $32.25 8. Chegg: $31.17 9. Valore Books: $25.93
10. eCampus: $15.00
Interestingly enough, the previous best websites to sell used textbooks on changes if you are willing to take store credit instead of cash. Then the top 10 positions to sell used textbooks would like this:
1. Textbooks R Us: CREDIT $44.00 2. Campus Book Rentals: $41.69 3. College Book Renter: CREDIT $40.20 4. Bunches of Books: $38.70 5. Chegg: CREDIT $37.40 6. Phat Campus: $37.00 7. Textbook Stop: $33.90 8. Book Byte: $32.25 9. Valorebooks: $25.93 10. eCampus: CREDIT $18.00
The top 10 websites to sell used textbooks stay the same, but they jockey for position. Campus Book Rentals falls from first place to second place, and Textbooks R Us comes in first place. The biggest difference was with Chegg who jumped three spots going from eighth place to fifth place, giving you about six dollars in store credit than they would in cash back. Now if you're not interested in the instant gratification of getting cash back or store credit for your used textbooks, you may want to go with alternate options like ebay, Amazon, or half.com. Although you are not guaranteed when your used textbook will be purchased, you could end up with a few more dollars in your pocket. If you decide to sell used textbooks this way you could end up seeing results similar to ours, we researched how much people were selling our test book on the following sites:
1. eBay: $55.00 2. Amazon: $49.97 3. half: $49.50
You have to remember that if you sell used textbooks through these websites it means a lot more work and competition, but if you want to get the most for your textbook these sites could be your best option. Now for the biggest losers, for you can't have winners without some losers, these are the websites that offered us the least amount for our used college textbook:
1. eCampus: CREDIT $18.00, check/Direct Deposit: $15.00 2. Barnes & Noble: $12.50 3. Book Renter: CREDIT $11.64, check $9.70
I hope you find this research helpful when you have to choose which websites to try fist and which ones to avoid the next time you are looking for the best places to sell used textbooks. In my opinion the best option is Campus Book Rentals giving you $41.69 cash back, not bad considering that you can purchase the book for around $50, so you could be looking at a total cost of around $10 for the semester. Most of the websites included in this survey have free shipping, but when you begin doing your own research make sure to check and see if free shipping is offered, as this additional cost can throw off your results.
