I AM EDITORIAL Fashion and Editorial Branding

A AMBITION

I’m dreaming of a future as Editor in Chief of my own fashion magazine. Ofcourse this is a picture perfect, byt if there is something I’ve learned in the last few years, it sure is that I have to work for my dreams and that I can achieve anything as long as I go a 100% for it! My last year in highschool made me realise what I really want. I made my own Fashion Magazine as final work and for the first time in my life I was willing to put all my time and effort in a project. The quote ‘Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life’ suddenly made sense to me. Being part of a big, bright and beautiful organization which is all about fashion, beauty and future is something I will never stop dreaming of and I hope this fashion and editorial branding minor will help me to come closer to that dream.

B BRAND

I read this sentencense in the programme description: ‘Magazines behaving like brands; brands behaving like magazines.’ I think this perfectly describes the way the branche is changing at the moment. A magazine can be made in every form and doing it online make is almost costless, it’s simple as that. To exceed all these content-makers you have to be creative and unique. ‘When live gives you lemons, make lemonade.’ It might sounds a bit crazy but it’s a way to describe my vision on the futue of magazines. You have to take all the chances you get in life and blend all these things together to create something of your own. It’s not like you have to go for the usual, it’s thinking out of the box, being unusual and creating your own vision and ideas. This will make a brand and the content unique.

C CREATIVE

I always liked being creative; writing creative articles, I like doing graphic designs, I like fashion and styling, I like photographing, I like creative thinking and doing research, I like editing photos, I just really like everything. I would like to explore all the in’s and out’s of the magazine-world. What kind of editors are there? Which tasks can be combinated? Which job will fit best to me? Ofcourse I can not start as an editor in chief, I need to work my way up there. Learning all about the different sides of the branche and get to know the side I like the most and I think this might be the most exciting and adventurous part of my journey. The assesments which you are offering are perfect to work on my vision. Creative things like designing a magazine, writing articles, arrange photoshoots, but also the more ‘theoretic’ things like researching, making plans and keeping your process-book up-to-date sound pretty challenging and great to me.

D DESIGN

Design, a word that always catches my attention no matter in what situation. The first two year at fontys had me created things I didn’t even know I could. I’ve had a lot of practice in using Adobe programs like Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, but in the end you just have to go for it by yourself. Graphic Design is just a little part of my Communication study and if you like to use it for your future, you need so much more practice by yourself. I liked everything about this creative way of working and descided to take it with me in my schoolwork. Not just delivering a simple and standard project, but creating something with a touch of me. This descicion made me love Adobe even more and fortunately I can say I’m more then just an ‘Adobe-beginner’.

E

ENGLISH THINKING

The communication in the famous world of fashion, beauty and celebrities is more and more becoming to be completely international. I mean, open a random magazine on a random page and you will see an English term for sure. I never really had much difficulties with writing and speaking English, but it’s not only the writing and the speaking that are important; above all that thinking in English is even more important. I don’t want to translate my ideas, my ideas has to be invented in English. The fact that the minor will be given in English is a perfect prepare for the future. Keeping up with the internationalisation and making sure we put some things of our own country in it.

F FASHION

Fashion is my biggest love, always have, always will. As a 16-year-old highshool girl I always thought I was going to work as a fashion-designer, I guess like most of the girls. When I grew up I more and more got the feeling that’s not really what’s interesting me so much about the fashion-world. I just felt I was more the kind of girl who picks out the best and puts it all together. I’m the type of girl who scrolls down on Pinterest hour by hour and is still not satisfied when going to sleep, who walks around in the trends of the day but is secretly craving to wear a high-fashion dress, who will buy everything which is in sale even if it’s still over my budget
