The relationship between’ Art and Architecture’
Can representation and technique allow for a spatial environment to manifest?
This studio stream engaged the importance and notions of integrating the two disciplines. In doing so the spatial work produced became linked in some way or another to an existing art form or methodology.
This study challenges the notions of representation, and how as a form of methodology, analysis can allow for a remedial spatial environment. This analysis and spatial remediation is formed by the constant, re – working of representation.
The conversation allows architecture to extend out into the realms which it may normally not. This critical integration allowed the methodology of such artworks to be injected in the architectural outcome.
The form is not exactly what is important, but rather the generative process, to achieve a level of spatial inhabitancy. This generative process is directly linked to one of a fine artist.
Re/Representation How can representation manifest into a spatial environment? The series of drawings explore how representation emerges. Drawing consciously from an orthographic approach, the serious of drawings one to six allows for a spatial environment. Through the process of rendering the lines are able to pick up depth and can furthermore become inhabited, once inhabited through the process of drawing and secondly re-inhabited architecturally

Re/Inhabitation How can representation manifest into a spatial environment? This Re/Inhabitation allows the earlier study of Re/Representation to manifest into a spatial environment. The planes are picked up and given depth to allow for a representation to become re/represented in an inhabitable environment. By allowing this inhabitancy to occur the representation is given its architectural connection. And although physically the representation lacks function and ow, it is able to become an installation or projection of an art-form. It become’s drawn out, as a remediated environment.
A + D Analogue versus Digital ARCI 102 communication Completed 2009
A + D Analogue versus Digital project one Course Coordinator - Tane Moleta This project explored the understanding and relationship between the physical – analogue and the augmented – digital The work consists of 25 handmade and 25 digitally rendered models. The focus for this project was to explore the boundaries between what is real and what is in fact a computer generated model. The presentation allows this boundary to interconnect.
A + D Journey project two Dystopia Disbelief This project, a continuation from project one, explores the idea of augmentation over a journey. Here notions of site are solidified into a form. Once again the use of both physical and digital models where explored to reach a final scene. This particular project challenges the notions of the city. Taking and drawing from all around us, the forms connected are developed to create a scene of what some may call a dystopian outcome. A film was produced to document this Journey, to capture the augmentation in motion. These fragments allow for a generator to base models and forms from. A series of stills from the short film
‘A Love Hotel’ ARCI 211 Architecural design and culture completed 2010
Course coordinator Simon Twoose Tutor Ross Kemp The way a city is derived, can be compared to a human, the hub – heart this metaphor has driven my development towards creating a ‘love hotel' within Wellingtons CBD. This ideal has formed the architecture in which is to inhabited, felt, touched and interacted with. The architecture is designed around relationships, categorised into specific formulae all in which juxtapose to form one, which are initially derived from an urban perspective. This is a very intimate process where form is encouraged to flirt, materials are invited to intertwine and theory is based on the relationship of two things. The outlook is the idea of 'love' the misconceptions of 'sex' and the encouragement to evoke a more intimate scene, somewhat dreamy. This is to inform the users that this space is not all about the actions, but is about what you are experiencing, your own journey and interaction with the space.
ARCI 211 Architecural design and culture ‘The Room of Perception, the Hyper Real’ Course coordinator Simon Twoose Tutor Ross Kemp This project explored the boundaries of perception and augmentation within a spatial environment, a room. Conceptually, to initialise a state of perception is actually very difficult. This project attempted to allow the room of the occupier to become fragmented. This room lead to an explorative study of a perceived 2dimensional realm, toward a 3 dimensional environment. The room completely detached from any architectural form or context is able to be experienced through cross disciplines to translate how perception can become augmented within a spatial frame The study explores physical model making, photography, Photoshop, projection and toward a 3dimensional realm both with physical and digital tools. These digital tools allowed a hyper real scene to emerge as a final outcome.

Photography DSDN244 Expanded Photographics completed 2010 Course Coordinator and Tutor Leon Guerevitch ‘Identity in the digital Realm’ assignment one ‘Self realism’ Identity in the digital realm is an issue which is becoming increasingly important in the current years. This assignment addresses these issues by allowing my self to become exposed to such a world. By exposing my self physically through photography I am able to physically project myself throughout the world. This project uses this conecpt of exposure to project myself both within a physical environment but also within the realm of the internet.
Sarc 483 and 383 International Field Study to Nepal/Tibet/ Rome completed 2011
Course co-ordinators’ Daniel K. Brown Maibritt Pederson-Zari This involved two international trips to Nepal/Tibet and Rome. The course’s where both drawing and essay/research based which became a re-action to a cultral exchange. The drawings in both papers are endowed in political, Social, cultural and spiritual context. The context remains within the realms of an Architypical style which was produced within the country.
