This module contains within the review and comparative study of two books. The first being a detailed analysis of ‘Ladders: Architecture at Rice 34’, written by Albert Pope. The written review summarizes the team presentation on the structure and content of the book and further evaluates its limitations and scope. Following this is a comparative study of the former with ‘The New Urbanism: Toward an Architecture of Community’, by Peter Katz. The latter is a collection of contributions on the subject by various architects who practice on the theory of ‘New Urbanism’. While also reviewing its content, scope and limitations, an attempt is made to draw out the different ways they react to in a common context and conclude on the books’ relevance on shaping the modern city fabric.
