Perler Beads Tiki Hut

Page 1

Surf City, Part 3: The Tiki Hut page 1 Need a place for the surfer dude and his girl to get out of the sun and sip a cool drink? Then you have to make a tiki hut! You will need twist ties to complete this project.

Make 4 roof pieces *

Bead Color/# Needed:

• Cheddar - 2 • Kiwi Lime - 21 • Dark Green - 18 • Tan - 444 • Light Brown - 301 • Black - 1

Ironing Instructions 1. Using a large square pegboard, place all the beads for design. If you’re using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Remember to make 4 roof pieces. 2. Cover the completed design with the ironing paper. Keeping the iron level, gently iron the beads in a circular motion for about 10 seconds to fuse the beads evenly. Ironed properly, the beads will still have an open center. On a 3-D project such as this, DO NOT OVER-IRON the beads as it will make the centers of the beads close and can make assembly difficult. 3. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Lift your design from the pegboard; flip the design over and repeat step #2. Your pegboard and ironing paper are reusable. Continued on next page Warning: Parents - the ironing must be done by an adult only. Some irons may emit steam. Please keep children at a safe distance.

Assembly

1

Insert twist ties through the beads indicated at the four corners of the tiki hut floor (see the diagram at far right for placement).

Use twist ties to secure the four sides of the roof together.

2

Next, slide 12 light brown beads onto each twist tie above the floor and 2 below the floor. Bend the ends of the twist ties below the feet to hold them in place. Leave extra twist tie at the top of each post to attach the roof.

3

Using the excess twist tie described above, lower the roof onto the posts and secure. Trim excess twist tie.

4 To add a tropical drink to the tiki hut, insert a short length of twist tie through the floor of the hut and bend the bottom end to hold it in place. Slide three beads in your choice of color onto the twist tie. Bend the twist tie at an angle to look like a straw.

5

Perch the parrot on the roof to complete the project.
