Moderate: Requires moderate/advanced mobility; walking from medium to long distances over uneven or steep surfaces.

Active: Requires active participation on stretches with cobblestones, uneven stairs and ground, nature paths as well as paddling and other non-walking activities. Guests must have a good level of fitness for these excursions.

In the heart of Provence, the UNESCO World Heritagelisted Pont du Gard aqueduct is one of humankind’s great masterpieces. Technically and architecturally impressive, this three-level Roman aqueduct is 275 metres long and 48 metres high and served as an aqueduct until the 6th century transporting thousands of gallons of water per day. Later, it was used as a toll gate, before being transformed into a road bridge.

As well as marvelling at this wonderful feat of engineering, you’ll visit the small Roman town of Uzes. Its circular streets once protected the medieval castle in the 11th and 12th centuries, and are perfect for exploring and enjoying some great food in the local restaurants.

Take a walking tour of the town including a guided visit of the magnificent Cochem Castle, boasting impressive views of the Moselle Valley. A long history precedes what we see of the castle today. The original 12th-century Romanesque style and condition were replaced by King Louis XIV, who ordered his troops to destroy it in 1689. Rebuilt in 1868 by businessman Louis Fréderic Jacques Ravené, he chose the neo-Gothic architecture that we know today for his family’s summer residence.
