eTwinning and diversity Prof. Emese Cîmpean
2016 has been declared the year of diversity and tolerance on eTwinning. Teachers all over Europe decided to celebrate together and make this online community a better one, more open to unicity and eager to learn how to accept and value each other. Why promote diversity? Because it is the value that defines us as european citizens. Because we have learned on eTwinning that diversity is a great thing, that we can only create and build a better world TOGETHER. In the section dedicated to this celebration, you can find videos created by european students: https://live.etwinning.net/ campaigns/2016/diversity Also, eTwinning ambassadors from all over Europe promoted online events on eTwinning and Twitter (#eTwiam and #eTwinning4diversity). In this issue, we publish the materials created by the students from „Petru Rareș” National College Beclean.

Diversity The beauty of life lies in its diversity. I am young ! I am a teenager and like me, there are so many people on the planet. In general, adolescence is unique: many problems, the need for freedom and the desire to do extraordinary things. I live in a European country where the slogan is unity in diversity. In Europe million adolescents live like me. As much as we like it or not, we are so different: from faces to the ways of thinking and ways of expressing ourselves. Diversity is present in the same country, same city, same school, same class, and even in the same family. We are unique, different and give color to this universe. Diversity is charm and power. Existence is only one but it is expressed in millions of forms. There aren’t identical trees, flowers, creatures. We, the people, why be different? It's a normal law to be so different and however.. get along on the same planet. Without diversity, the world would be gray, boring. Page 6
Diversity gives the world glow. Be different but not forget to respect others! HiticaĹ&#x; Claudiu
Diversity, a good thing left for humanity In my vision, diversity or excellent temper are various traits; differences: differences between thousands of plant species which in the end form a whole, composing the green coating and a part of the living layer of our planet. Among humans there are social differences, intelectual differences and cultural differences; religious beliefs differences, colour and mentality differences, which should be only in our advantage, for using the extended branches which we can reach because of diversity, with a little bit of tolerance and understanding. Speaking of humanity, diversity is one of the good things left to them and which the humankind can enjoy. Diversity should not inspire racism and discrimination, but it should make us accept the VOLUME I, ISSUE 4, 2016
differences and various traits that each one has. Accepting the diversity means progres and only through uniquneess unicity we can evolve, so diversity means evolution. If every human around the world would have the same skill or the same passions, on this earth, for sure there won’t be order, but chaos; an abnormality in our evolution as intelligent beings. For instance, if everyone would have a passion for literature or would be passioned about astronomy, the development that we call evolution would have a handicap. Without the existence of diversity, human evolution would not have any chance of survival, the evolution course would stagnate or it would unleash chaotically in a helpless way, without any harmony, looking like an escaped mutant from an experimentation laboratory Șutea Robert

Diversity in our world Diversity is a concept that is based on the differences between people, differences that instead of us to approach one another, put barriers between us. Think about us as a world without diversity, a world where all things would be the same. I think that would be a . In my opinion, diversity makes the beaty of life, the differences between us are the best reason to love eachother,to accept eachother, because this is what makes us uniques, this is what makes us to learn from eachother. Tolerance is a consequence of diversity: if we love diversity,we MUST love eachother, even they are muslims,or black people,or people with disabilities, because, in front of God we have the same value, no one is above or lower. We all know that there aren’t just if there is something wrong and two identic people. My opinion is just if we go directly to them, not if that all the interhuman we start talking at their back. One of the biggest mistakes done by the entire human race is the fact that we can’t stop judging. Everything made by the others is filtered by our eyes. But who do we think we are to talk, or maybe not to talk, just to think about the others’ stuff? It’s not fair to be the jury who discusses about everything that happens in people’s lives. The most despicable way of judging is to criticise someone’s body. We can’t choose how we are born or we can’t choose the best body, everyone is different so nobody is able to criticise Page 8

Think at the others’ feelings and stop acting like they can’t hear what we say , they are affected more and more everyday so that’s why people change, they start being immune to protect their souls. Sometimes, our opinion is not that important. Let me tell you my story. I'm from Cape Town Africa, and I'm from a really rich family. My Dad decided to send me on a school trip in Asia in order to see the difference between my school and theirs. Diversity in personality “Just be yourself” or “I am not perfect but I am always myself” . I have seen lately a lot of posts (pictures and messages) like these but the question is “which `myself` shall I be?”. In order to answer that question we first need to know what “myself” is. Normally when we say `myself` we think about personality. The expressions, the gestures, the way we dress, the things we like define our personality. To my mind we have got a lot of “myselves”. One `myself` for our loved persons, one for our parents, one for our friends, one for strangers. We do not use the same expressions, gestures we use with our friends while we are with our parents, do we? Of course not. So are we “fake” or are we acting? Because we do not use the same “myself” no matter the context.
I think it's not about how many faces of myself I show, I am still me in every situation. Marina Costin, cls. a X-a N2

Diversity Diversity is the quality or state of having many different types or ideas. So, diversity means to be different .Then...Why are we asked to be the same, to act like robots, when it's so nice to be different, to have different traditions, customs, to express ourselves differently? Every human perceives the world differently. Every human has his own individuality, we are original, but we have that intention to copy others, not to show exactly what we really think or feel. Maybe it's about the fear of not standing out and be "different" . Nowadays, being different is perceived in a wrong way and it has a negative understanding. First of all, there are too many people who are "the same", with the same mentality ,with the same ideas, with the same purpose : success . My opinion is that you will have success if you are different. Secondly, to be different doesn't mean to be odd, but to be original and to express your own opinion, to have the courage to say "NO ! " when the others say "YES ! " , if your ideas are good. Many people try to be different and unique, but all they succeed to get is a superficial difference . We all have different traditions, we feel and we think differently, but this doesn't mean that we are better or worse than the others. We are humans, first of all . We have qualities, defects, we love, we hate, we are happy, we are sad, we feel, we think, we experience, WE LIVE ! We are different, and also similar. Taking all these into account, being different is essential nowadays. "Different" is the label people give you when they see you're not as them for some reasons. But different means special. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT . YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT ! Miriam Pop, IX N

DIVERSITY Every single expression of nature is new and unique yet of the same unified essence. It isn't ’’good’’ or ’’evil'. It just IS.
„Variety is the spice of life, which gives the taste.”William Cowper If variety is lacking, people are bored because of daily routine. We all choose a domain, a lifestyle that suits us. If it doesn’t suits us , we can’t win in life. In our days, the person who is original and special is considered incapable to integrate. We all need to have the courage to be different, to live how we want. That doesn’t mean we have to be rude and don’t care about anything. Everything has a limit. If you are original and respectful you will win in life.
„Only God can judge me.” One of the first diversity was displayed by Jesus, when He came to earth and dared to speak about Page 12

what people didn’t believe. God made us all different and we have personality. If a different man won’t arouse the applauses of earth, will arouse those of heaven.
„The countries have diversity.” All the countries have their own resources and people focus on their best. Constitution is different. Every country needs a different leadership because there's diversity.
„Dare it: BE like you want to be!” I realized that diversity represents me personally. I am that kind of person which do what I want as long as I know that this is a good thing and doesn’t bother anyone. I don’t like a life based on rules, I like to break them. I dare to think differently and I am not afraid of bad opinion of others, and also I don’t expect congratulations from people. In the end, the only way to be ’’different’’ is to just BE and that is already the natural state. Not a ’’good’’ or ’’evil’’ thing.Just be you as much as you can! Diversity can be defined as people coming together from different races, nationalities, religions and sexes to form a group, organization or community. A diverse organization is one that values the difference in people. It is one that recognizes that people with different backgrounds, skills, attitudes and experiences bring fresh ideas and perceptions. Diverse organizations encourage and harness these differences to make their services relevant and approachable. Diverse organizations draw upon the widest possible range of views and experiences so it can listen to and meet the changing needs of its users. The encouragement of diversity benefits society. In society today, most people view diversity as a good thing because it gives people the chance to experience different things outside of what they are normally accustomed to. Diversity in America is openly viewed as a beneficial bacterium, so many backgrounds and not knowing which ones are good and which ones are bad. Diversity as a wide component is a tricky thing to use and understand because it has both negative and positive effects on society such as education, violence and employment. People have to dig deep to figure out what exactly the effect will be in the end and be patient Page 14
VOLUME I, ISSUE 4, 2016
to wait and see. Diversity can create curiosity. By being exposed to different people and cultures, a student may want to learn more about a particular group which can give them insight into how and why things work as they do and possibly a way to change them for the better. Diversity is not always just what background you come from but is any unique difference between human beings. Diversity includes physical appearance, religious belief, and race but your opinions and thoughts and the impact they make on society are also part of diversity. Most authorities tend to disagree with this; they believe that diversity is more beneficial to society than it is harmful. “From multicultural festivals to pronouncements from political leaders, the message is the same: our differences make us stronger (Jonas 3). Diversity is the many differences that different backgrounds hold. Within those backgrounds are differences that make and improve people. We should celebrate the differences and learn to work together.

The Environment Day - Earth Calling- the script of a play for Students It is a TV show made by students. It starts with the news presenter and then the news coming from certain reporters who give information from different places. D: “Good evening, ladies and gentleman! I’m Daria M. and you are watching the new TV show Earth Calling. We are going to present some situations that we are witnessing every day, but most of the time we ignore them. We love to smell a flower, to breath fresh air, we love to spend time outdoors, but what are we doing to protect the Earth? Our colleague Raluca is here to show us more.” Raluca: “Of course that we enjoy the beauties of nature and going for a picnic is the cheapest method to have fun. Let’s see how people do appreciate nature.” There are some students who are throwing garbage on the grass. Raluca : “Why are you throwing your trash away instead of throwing it in the trash bin? Student 1: “As you can see, there is no trash bin, so… we let the litter here.” (at the same time, people can notice that there are two trash bins which are empty, although surrounded by wasted garbage. Raluca: “But do you know that you are polluting the nature?” Student 2: “We don’t care. It doesn’t really bother us!” A group of students are lying down on a blanket but they have got bags to throw the garbage. Raluca goes to interview them. Raluca: “What’s your opinion about those people who are throwing their trash on the street?” Student 3: “I believe it’s a lack of respect for nature.” Student 4: “Whenever we go for a picnic, we pick up the garbage in a bag and then we throw it in the garbage bin.” Raluca: “Thank you! That would be all for now. Daria, you’ve got Page 16

the connection.” D: “An alarming fact is that most of the people ignore the advice that can help protect the nature. We tried to make an experiment on this problem and these were the results.” Some students are walking in the park, some of them are throwing on the ground some Coke cans and the reporter stops them. A nice girl is picking up the trash to put it in the garbage bin. Reporter: “Hey, hey, guys! What are you doing?” Student 5: “I didn’t do anything! What’s the matter with you?” Reporter: “How can you say something like this? We’ve just recorded you.” Student 6: “I don’t really care!/So what?” Reporter: “Look! That girl is picking up your trash. Miss, you did the right thing. Those guys leave the garbage on the street and you put it in the trash bin. How do you feel when you do something good?” The girl: “I’m so proud of myself when I protect the environment because helping nature is like helping everyone.” Reporter: “Thank you for watching us. I’m Andrew from Earth Calling TV.” D: “Fortunately there are some people who spend their free time taking care of trees and plants. They make sure that other people breath fresh air and that the planet is healthy.” Some students plant flowers, dig and water the plants. D: “Thank you for watching us. I’m Daria M from Earth Calling. See you next time.

Difference and Tolerance Tolerance is respect, acceptance and appreciation of the richness and diversity of our world's cultures, our forms of expression and our ways of expressing our human being.Tolerance is a virtue that makes peace possible, contributes to substitute a culture of peace to the culture of war. Tolerance is not concession, condescension or indulgence. Tolerance is, above all, an active attitude prompted by recognition of the universal rights of the human person and fundamental freedoms of others. In no circumstance may be invoked to justify infringements of these fundamental values. Education for tolerance should aim at countering influences that lead to fear and exclusion of others, and should help young people develop their capacity for independent judgment, to think critically and ethical reasoning.

The Earth Day Groceries Project Prof. Silveșan Tatiana, Centrul școlar de Educație Incluzivă Beclean
Earth Day Groceries Project is a nonprofit environmental project , the pre-school and decorate paper bags and cartons for food, environmental messages for Earth Day . The project began in 1994 with an invitation sent to two educational forums . Forty-three schools have sent reports about their successful participation in this program ! Since then thousands of schools around the world take part every year in this important event for all. Argument ,,EARTH does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth; on the contrary. " This is an old truth that underlies many of the sustainable development programs of countries of the world, who understood that the environmental problem is a universal problem. I consider environmental education as a dimension fundamemtală, knowing that at this age the foundations of the first environmental knowledge, habits are formed early in the relationship man - nature. I am convinced that we can awaken children's interest in everything around them and through them we can form a positive attitude towards the environment, all who inhabit the earth. Experience has shown me that sometimes children's creativity may exceed our power to capture the essence is big, the ideas are ingenious, showing depth, spontaneity and naivety in their desire to find explanations for all phenomena and events occurring around them. It's time to sensitize the youngest children to be the guarantor of protection of the Earth, now, more than ever, when "the Earth suffers" negligence and carelessness of people.

Shrek: Exemplu?
