Ba Architecture 2024
I am a third-year student at Umeå School of Architecture in Sweden. This is a compilation of my studies in architecture so far. I have gathered the projects I have enjoyed the most working on and I believe the content of them to also best reflect myself. Thank you!
EDUCATION:
EXPERIENCE:
Umeå School of Architecture 2021-
University of Universities (UOU) 2023
During my years as a bachelor student I have had the oppourtunity to learn from how the body acts in space, working with lowtech constructions with reused materials and focusing on the programmable aspects in relation to the existing city. 2021/2022 Fundamentals 2022 Closing Loops 2023/2024 The City as a Laboratory
Universidad de Alicante 2023 (spring semester)
I did an exchange term in Alicante during the spring semester of my second year, an experience which I learned a lot from. I especially appreciated the opportunity to further develop my 3d model skills and to broaden my knowledge about urban planning through the LEED-ND handbook, questioning what a sustainable neighbourhood is.
I got to take part in the collaboration between different universities during my exchange term. It was a great experience where I learnt a lot from others and new ways of working .
UfM Student Competition on Urban Design 2023
A competition to design a sustainable solution for a Mediterranean area where I, together with Aleksandra Fijołek, designed a proposal for the Greek island Sikinos.
Communication Assistant at Umeå School of Architecture 2023/2024
Assisting graphics tasks as, producing material for social media, posters and photographing events.

T H E PA L L E T B AT H H O U S E Closing Loops - Culture for Bathing
The ritual of bathing culture is ceremonial, a chance to gather. This project is an alternative approach to the bathing culture in the north by having the political perspective as the point of departure, rather than the source of water. The configurations of the Pallet Bathhouse is determined by the dimensions of its existing material and the people who visit it and can only function through the work of the community as the heated bathtub relies on collecting falling snow as its main water source.

The neighbourhood of Ålidhem is a dense and vivid area in Umeå, housing people of all ages and nationalities. The movement in the area is drastically reduced during the darkness of the winter months, as for many other areas around the city. To leave the apartment is a matter of getting from a to b rather then to spend time outside or interacting with people. The northwestern and southeast entrances are meant to correspond to the surrounding paths of the site. By investigating the movement through the area together with the movement of the sun, the most suitable position of the heated bath tub as well as adaptable walls where determined. This allows for the space to unfold and expand when it is warmer as the rotatable walls erase the border between inside and outside.

THE RHYTHM OF ÖN Fundamentals - Along and Across
A line along with the river melts in with the rest if there is no border to break the pattern. A cut in the other direction to make the site stand out, connecting points and creating a totality. A chance to intervene and connect the existing phenomena’s in something new that makes your focus shift from the rest of the landscape. By intervening with the exisitng landscape on the small island of “Ön”, located in the middle of Umeå, Sweden, the project aims to juxtapose its surrounding by following the rhythm of it.
Transcript The path along the riverside is sheltered by an ally of trees, their shadows dynamically playing over the ground as the sun’s rays slip through. A rhythm accompanied by the surrounding houses, abruptly broken by an opening slope amongst the trees. The river acts as an extension to the mainland when frozen but remains a border when it runs. In an attempt to approach its power, the intervention aims to be a part of the elements.
19
By excavating the ground, the running stream has as much power over the intervention as it has over the surrounding landscape. The water limits alter the spaces of the intervention, just as it does for the rest of the island.

The northern inland of Sweden is, with all its nature, rather sparsely populated. The country wants to maintain and increase its inland population and has to offer the same facilities that bigger cities do to do so. Maternity care in the North is one of these obstacles that the inner cities have to address. An old name for a midwife in Swedish is “Jordemor”, translating to “Mother of Earth”. This sparked inspiration for an alternative, more grounded design to maternity hospitals, still involving contemporary techniques. The design follows the grid of a planted forest and aims to offer privacy and care for an expectant mother and still include an alternative programme for those who are not expecting.

Sollefteå: closed 2017
Due to the North’s sparse cities, there is often a long distance to the closest hospital, depending on where you live. In the last couple of years, several maternity hospitals have been forced to close down within these regions, due to economic and staffing reasons. When the maternity hospital of Sollefteå closed in 2017, the organization ABF started giving courses on how to give birth in the car, as a solution if there was no time to get to the hospital. An innovative aid but not a long-term, safe substitute for giving birth.

Inspiration was drawn from interviews with mothers on how they would prefer a space to be for giving birth. The need of privacy was essential as well as the sensation of calmness. The element of a window was also something that was brought up, to have a connection to the outside.
How is the perfect place to give birth?

The way of viewing the building as semi-human, a concept evident in the vernacular technique of the Batammaliban tribe was a source of inspiration to juxtapose the traditional hospitals. By interpreting the spatial division of the Batammaliban culture and adapting it to the needs of a modern maternity hospital a new space emerged.
Modern adaptation 31
Partition walls, following the grid of a planted pine forest, allows for the space to adapt to many settings. It makes it possible for the joined and public space to be utilized while the area devoted to maternity care remains private for its patients.

A L G Q U A R I S This project was made together with Aleksandra Fijołek
UfM Student Competition
As the current environmental conditions put all societies in a vulnerable position, this project’s aim is to deal with the situation with a concept that could be applied and altered to different locations. Sikinos (Cyclades, Greece) is a small island, remote and depending on the ferry traffic to surrounding islands and the mainland. The project addresses the problem of water conditions and drought through materiality, strongly characterised by algae, in a selfsufficient community on a low-tech level.
Increased algae blooming is a threat to human and marine life. By harvesting seaweed to produce seaweed bricks for the new dwellings, construction is kept locally while the undeniable critical situation of rising sea temperature is dealt with. The self-sufficient concept is supported by power extracted from algae panels.
Natural ventilation
R a i nwa t e r harvesting
Heavy rainfall will be addressed by a runoff system where the water is either stored as a buffer or used as irrigation for crops. Rainwater harvesting on a micro level is a central part of the block design where ancient techniques are implemented in the dwellings to supply each household with filtered graywater from the sky. To limit the dependence on the mainland, water purifying through ceramic buckets is distributed throughout the blocks.

The island of Sikinos have a small population spread out in smaller cities along the coastline. The community depends on the ferry traffic to the surrounding islands and the tourists it brings. The new neighbourhood centre aims to extend the city by also bringing locals and tourists together.
