To whom it may concern:

My name is Emiliano Rosales, an active student in the 8th semester of Architecture from The University of Monterrey. Throughout my university studies, I have managed to strengthen and develop my interest in advanced architecture, using critical thinking alongside algorithmic design to propose innovative ideas in structural and sustainable design. I have been selected several times to represent my university for my work to other universities and fellow students.

Since I entered architecture, I have developed an advanced skill in handling softwares such as Revit, Rhino, and Grasshopper, focused on 3D modeling, as well as the generation of specifications and detail drawings. I am also proficient in rendering softwares like Corona and Lumion. As part of my areas of interest, I have mastered architectural digraming and the ‘‘story telling’’ of conceptual diagrams.

I have held previous previous architecture interships where i proved my ability to think strategically and critically to provide design solutions to certain problems, and provide various number of design options. I was part of the competition design team at GLR, where i was in charge of the creation of high quality 3d models and animations that won competitions, such as The New Central Library of Monterrey and several mixed used buildings competitions.

Thank you for reviewing my portfolio, i look forward to the possibility of discussing how my skills and experiences align with the needs of your firm in more detail.

AURA HEALTH CENTER

Aura Health Center seeks to transform the traditional perception of hospital environments, turning them into spaces of comprehensive healing that go beyond conventional medical care. The design starts from the integration of volumes that create a unifying central atrium, creating a composition of solemn geometries. The incorporation of public spaces aims to provide areas for interaction and rest for patients, family members, and medical staff, thus fostering a more friendly and collaborative environment within the medical center.

Patient ROOMS

AHC aims to change the perception of hospital environments by creating english-style courtyards with vegetation in each room to enhance the patient experience. These courtyards offer a peaceful and natural environment, helping reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being in a hospital setting.

The decision not to provide views to the outside from the rooms is based on the surrounding context, which may not be particularly pleasant, thus seeking to protect privacy and create a calmer and more sheltered environment for patients during their stay.

SHM SPORTING COMPLEX

SHM is a high-performance sports center located in the Valle Poniente area that offers its users a unique experience by combining a wide variety of sports under one roof. Unlike the traditional practice of focusing on a single sport, SHM promotes sporting diversity and interaction among different disciplines, enriching the experience of its users. This sports complex features 6 padel tennis courts, 3 basketball courts, 3 tennis courts, 2 semi-Olympic swimming pools, a boxing area, spaces for spinning, bootcamp sessions, a full gym, areas for yoga and multipurpose space, a spa, hiking, and its main attraction: a 300-meter artificial downhill track. All these sports have been merged into a single building, allowing users to explore a wide range of sporting options in one place.

In Collaboration with Alan Sosa Softwares Used: Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper, Revit, Twinmotion, Photoshop, Illustrator

CONCEPT

The architectural design of SHM is inspired by the surrounding mountains, specifically the slopes and their curves that cast shadows in their environment. This inspiration is manifested in blocks that rotate vertically in different parts of the structure, creating shadows that reflect on the building’s facade. These blocks create an artificial mountain that houses a habitable green roof, which in turn serves as an artificial track for downhill biking and hiking.

SHM not only attracts a diverse population in the Valle Poniente area, but also fosters sporting diversity and interaction among its users by providing an environment that promotes the exploration of various sports disciplines within an architecturally impressive setting.

1. SITE ANALYSIS

It was decided to utilize the natural incline of the terrain, that had an elevation of 10 meters, to accommodate four masses intended to house four primary sports, each necessitating considerable space due to the standard dimensions of their respective courts.

2. MASSING

Then three additional masses were placed in the edges that will function as vertical circulation cores, they will also serve to house the remainder of the architectural program.

3. connectivity

Now, three ramps are created that emerge from the previous volumes, in order to generate a connection between the different parts of the building.

4. CONTEXT REAcTION

A parametric facade is added that reflects the slopes of the surrounding mountains, as well as the upper landscape that will serve as ramps for downhill and hiking activities.

Facade detail made in Revit with Rhino Inside Revit

One iteration of the two distinct facade module styles employed by SHM is proposed to be constructed utilizing an origami-inspired approach, utilizing alucobond panels.

The second facade module styles employed by SHM is proposed to be constructed utilizing an origami-inspired approach, utilizing alucobond panels adding a opening for a Low-E cristal.

The structural approach for the various facade modules consists with the utilization of a system of mullions anchored by steel beams. Subsequently, the facade modules are fixated to the mullions and appropriately sealed.

CONCEPT

Innovarium is primarily composed of a central library, co-working area, auditorium, exhibition spaces, creative zones, and commercial areas. Innovarium aims to interconnect these spaces into a singular entity, creating a network of typologies with personalized and communal areas to foster social interaction. To develop a building capable of evolving alongside technology, we delineate spaces where technology can advance and be constantly reconfigured. Innovarium can adapt to trends, technological advancements, and utilization opportunities.

GENESIS TOWER

Genesis Tower is a luxury residential tower wrapped in an exoskeleton with a structural function that also embodies a contemporary and luxurious design. This exoskeleton allows for a structural criteria with column-free floors while providing resistance to high winds and hurricanes. The algorithmic design process was inspired by Frei Otto’s studies on woolly threads and transferred into architecture.

Softwares Used: Rhinoceros 3D, Revit, 3ds Max, Corona Render, Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator

ALGORITHMIC DESIGN

For the algorithmic process, studies were conducted on Frei Otto’s experiments, particularly the woolly threads. The aim was to utilize this experiment as a self-organizing system capable of optimizing itself by its own nature and evolving into a structure. Through computational design, strategic points were placed where these would interconnect via lines. Subsequently, a catenary force simulation process was employed, resulting in a structural formation.

MARCO NEW MUSEUM

OMA DESIGN WORKSHOP

New Museum seeks to a radical extension of Museo Marco with a sense of elegancy, having the purpose of attracting a new and younger audience, while also giving Marco a second life. Currently, Museo Marco is the most important museum of Mexican contemporary art in Monterrey. New Museum aims to attract international contemporary art, infusing Marco with a new essence. The design of New Museum combines fluidity and curves compared to Marco, which predominates with square geometric forms.

49 48
Marco Museum visit with OMA managing partner David Gianotten Softwares Used: Revit, Rhino, Twinmotino, Photoshop, Illustrator

CONCEPT

To carry out the extension of Marco, it was first decided to locate spaces within Marco on the side of the site, and then extend these spaces while maintaining Marco’s original circulation, yet generating a feeling of old and new simultaneously. “Threads” of extension were then extended with square meters, modified by the property limit of the site. This created a series of pathways that later evolved into the final form, generating a radical extension while keeping a sense of elegancy that Marco offered, while also having a sense of sinergy between forms of both museums. One being a composition of square volumetric forms and the extension being an series of more prismatic volumes growing from the museum.

GLR ARQUITECTOS

DESIGN ASSISTANT WORK EXPERIENCE

Softwares Used: Revit, Sketchup, Lumion, Blender, AutoCad, Photoshop, After Effects

As a design assistant at GLR, i was in charge of making high quality models and renderings for both mixed-use projects and residential houses. I used Lumion to generate a series of renderings, which were showcased to clients, investors, and stakeholders in various meetings. Additionally, I contributed a 3D animation for the winning entry of The New Central Library of Nuevo León. Furthermore, I participated in the production of MEP drawings in Revit for mixed-use developments throughout my tenure.
