Emilie in Copenhagen So happy to join the Issuu Family
Background French by origin, European at heart
I grew up in Thonon-les-Bains on the shores of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps. A charming but somewhat isolated place that made me want to broaden my horizons. Passionate about mathematics and the humanities, I studied at Neoma Business School, in Rouen, Normandy, the favorite region of the impressionists! During my studies, I had the chance to study for 6 months at Brandeis University in an International Economics Master Program, in a beautiful campus near Boston, developing my passion for living in an international context. After a major in marketing, I wanted to work in the cultural sector and more particularly in the world of media and publishing. This is how I started my career in a news group developing one of the first contents for mobile devices in France- before working in publishing, mainly as a product manager.
After 6 years in Paris and a second daughter, Violette, we finally moved to Stockholm! The culture shock was stronger than I thought and my attachment to Sweden and Scandinavia in general was even greater. There, I worked as a volunteer for an association, and we created a bi-monthly magazine for the French community to shed light on Swedish culture. Our third daughter, Garance, was born in Stockholm.

It was our shared passion for Italy that brought my husband and I together. A few years later years, we naturally decided to move to Milan, with our first child, Louise, who was just 1 month old at the time. We came back to France after 2 years, rich with new friends, beautiful memories, a new language and a strong desire to live elsewhere again.
After 3 years in Sweden, we lived one year in Copenhagen, before moving back to Paris. We loved our experience in Scandinavia, especially the quality of life and coming back to the hectic life in Paris was a bit of a shock. Therefore, we decided all together to relocate permanently in Copenhagen in September 2017. Since then, we enjoy cycling everywhere, walking in the beautiful nature around Copenhagen, discovering the cultural sights and hot spots of Denmark and trying our best to learn Danish... eventually we will get there!
Emilie Canu-Rivier Senior Product Manager Team Reader - Copenhagen Why Issuu? I was immediately attracted by Issuu’s job offer … First and foremost, I’m passionate about publishing, especially the digital revolution that has reinvented the industry over the past 20 years: I find it fascinating to see how new technologies can help creators to showcase their content in ever more inspiring ways while making it more accessible to the right audience and finding new ways to monetise their work. I was therefore seduced by Issuu’s value proposition and its customer-centric approach -using Issuu to share/sell content across all digital platforms -. I also found the position very attractive. After working for over 3 years for a SaaS solution as a Project Manager, this is an opportunity to focus again on product strategy and management within a SaaS company and to influence the product itself by working closely with engineers, UX designers and other key stakeholders. Being part of the reader team is also an exciting challenge: passionate about the customer experience, I really enjoy analysing and understanding what motivates visitors and how the solution can benefit them in a way that will help Issuu grow its business and profitability. Lastly, reading about the company and taking the time to learn about the product raised my interest even more . So happy to join the family! www.linkedin.com/in/emiliecanurivier/

Hobbies Dancing, reading & being together Let’s dance When I was a child, I dreamed of living in a musical. I grew up watching films with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. That's how I started ballet, swapping my first idols for ballet icons: Béjart, Petit, Baryshnikov... Tap dance, contemporary dance, modern jazz, hip hop, I have continued over the years to explore dance in many of its expressions. Today, in Copenhagen, I take ballet classes and enjoy going to see dance performances whenever I can. I am a fan of choreographers from different backgrounds: from Pina Bausch (whose Le Sacre du Printemps was a revelation) through Mourad Merzouki or Jiri Kylián to Crystal Pite.
If you have some time, don’t miss the current exhibitions of two incredible women, Sonia Delaunay (Louisiana) and Suzanne Valandon (Glyptotek). I also like to get away from the city: hiking in nature with a reading break is one of our favourite weekend activities, and swimming in Copenhagen harbour after work is one of my great summer pleasures. Friends & Family Finally, I love to organize dinner at home with our family & friends.
Culture & Nature Whenever I have a spare moment, I love to see exhibitions. It’s a wonderful way to escape, to see the world from different perspectives. I’m a huge admirer of artists and creators in general.
We have tons of favourite activities: we love reading stories every night lying on the bed preferably with our cat joining us, cooking exotic dishes together and, of course, French pastries: madeleines, tarte aux citrons, gâteau au chocolat are our top 3,…

… eating ice cream after swimming in the summer, walking in the forest or on the beautiful sandy beaches of North Sjælland, ice skating every Sunday morning in the winter, making music playlists together when we travel (the result is quite diverse!), doing yoga together after busy day at school/work, going on a flea market and we love to add to this list!
