The French Art of Tea The discovery of tea in France dates back to the 1600's, when the Chinese Empire started to trade with Europe. Unlike Great Britain, few people are aware that French people also have a culture of tea. If you ask Emilie what make the French Art of tea different than other cultures, it is how the "blends are finished." Teas are curated from all around the world; The French use their expertise in wine, culinary, essential oils and perfume to finish the blend. Which result in a more subtle and smoother taste.

Tea Plant: Camellia Sinensis Did you know Black, Wulong, Pu'er, Yellow, Green and White tea come from the same plant? Yes, this plant is called Camellia Sinensis. The main varietal are Camellia Sinensis, Sinensis and Camellia Sinensis, Assam. The tea plant is originally from China and has been cultivated for southand of years. To cultivate tea at his best you need a tropical or subtropical climate and some elevation. Over the centuries tea has been used around the world for many medicinal purpose such as digestive problems and more. Like coffee, the tea plant contains caffeine however because the caffeine compound is combined with the Bromine and L-theanine compound, the effect of caffeine is different. Typically after an hour of consuming coffee it can often leave you feeling unsettled, while drinking tea generally helps the mind settle and focus...a meditative drink of monks for centuries.

Tisanes: Herbal Teas

Tea Parties

Tisane comes from Latin ptisana, from Greek ptisanē, literally, crushed barley, from ptissein to crush. Tisane is a generic term for any beverage made from the infusion or decoction of herbs, spices or other plant material not coming from the tea shrub. Tisanes use all parts of a plant. They are usually categorized by which part of the plant they come from: leaf, flower, bark, root, fruit, seed/spice. Respectively the most common are mint leaves, hibiscus flowers, cinnamon and willow bark, ginger, turmeric and ginseng roots, lemon or lime, star anise or cardamom pods. Aside from yerba mate, guarana and coffee, tisanes do not contain caffeine. Each plant and herb has its own health benefits.

Once Upon A Time...

Original color (blue cel adon) remains in the te a room.

Okay ready to follow this romantic ride…in February 2010 Alex, who was originally from New Mexico was living in Kansas City, MO and Emilie from France was living in Mexico City. They crossed paths on one magical day in Flores, Guatemala - Alex was studying Traditional Maya Medicine…Emilie was on a weekend getaway with a friend. After a year of long distance… Emilie moved to Kansas City early 2011 to start a life with Alex. A wedding date was set for May 1st 2011…with only a few months to find a wedding dress… what to do? Just by chance, one day Emilie was walking to pick up their mower in Waldo at a repair shop... She walked by a local dress shop on Wornall and did a double take, as a wedding dress in the window caught her eye. This was exactly what she had been looking for…she called to make an appointment for the next day. It fit like a glove…no alterations and on budget! Fast forward to 2016…Alex and Emilie were looking for a location to create a Center to share their passion of natural medicine with their local community. She was passionate about teas and herbs. He was passionate about traditional healing…well, they had all but given up on a location, when Emilie stumbled upon this building at 8131 Wornall Rd. She showed it to Alex, he said, “do you realize this is where we got your wedding dress?” The layout was exactly what they were dreaming of…another sign, this place was meant to be! In January 2017 they moved into 8131 Wornall Rd…where an unknown seed had been planted many years ago with a wedding dress and is now called Emilie’s French Teas and Centered Spirit Cultural & Holistic Health Center.
