Instructions for template use: 1) Using the Selection Tool (V), hold shift and select the two guidlines to the left and right of the center. At the top of the screen, edit the W: field to reflect the spine width as per the following calculation: [page count] / [pages per inch] = spine width. The number of pages per inch is 434 for cream, and 526 for standard white. For example an 80 page book on standard paper would have a spine thickness of .152”. 2) Hold shift and select the top and bottom guidelines. At the top of the screen edit the H: field to reflect the trim size for the height of the book. 3) Hold shift and select the outermost guidelines. Adjust the W: field according the following calculation: ([trim width] x 2) + [spine width]

4) Delete these instructions and move on to The Hard Part--design the cover. Keep in mind that there should be a bleed outside the defined area of at least .125” to .25” that will be trimmed off during the printing process.
