Emily Henderson

My Design Inspiration and Personal Style I am inspired by nature and creating spaces that are practical, functional, and beautiful. By creating designs that are environmentally conscious, I want to help bring the natural world back into everyday life and preserve our natural resources. My personal style is classic. Using time-honored silhouettes, color palettes, and materials create spaces that are timeless. In my personal life animal rescue, gardening, reading travel books, and living a slow and sustainable lifestyle are all important to my personal ethos.

03 P.A.C.E. Large-Scale Commercial | Fall 2019

P.A.C.E. or Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly offers a long-term solution for care of older adults. The day program offers activities, medical care, and socialization. This design for the P.A.C.E. program in downtown Stillwater, Oklahoma focuses on "place attachment theory". By making use of how users attach to their space, this design solution serves to create a space where the participants of the program feel safe, protected, and valued.

Concept The objective for this design is to create a sanctuary for the older adult community in Stillwater that creates a comforting and inviting environment that establishes an easy transition for the older adults as they begin a new stage of their life. A sanctuary is defined as a place of refuge or safety. The space should feel natural and calming in order to reduce overstimulation and confusion. To give the space a feeling of familiarity for the participants within the space, the original building should be kept intact as much as possible.

Third Floor Plan

Mezzanine Floor Plan The Mezzanine's purpose is to provide rehab and activity spaces. The activity space is designed to offer art, pottery, and other stimulating creative endeavors. The large windows bring natural light into the space, lending to the element of "nature bonding". A calming color palette completes the space by providing a canvas for creation.

05 COMMERCIAL FURNITURE Internship | Summer 2019

In the summer of 2019 I completed a professional internship at a contract furniture dealership for one of the leading commercial

furniture

manufacturers.

Through

this

experience, I gained my proficiency in CET designer and knowledge of the entire product range of furniture and finishes. This internship also gave me experience working directly with clients to understand their needs. I found that understanding how commercial furniture is assembled, designed, and implemented in interior design has become essential knowledge to my design work.

FIRST PHYSICIANS The scope of this project was to space plan this large, corporate office space to include both furniture and finishes from the Steelcase product range.

OU TULSA The design for this space at The University of Oklahoma at Tulsa seeks to reimagine their graduate student den in the campus library. The scope of this project included space planning a variety of options for layout, furniture selection, and materials that work for graduate students' needs.

TULSA LEARNING ACADEMY The Tulsa Learning Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma seeks to redesign an existing classroom to fit various configurations of furniture selections from a commercial furniture manufacturer's education grant. The space needs to work for a number of teaching methods and learning preferences.
