3 Look Collection S/S 2014
3 look collection s/s 2014 For the young woman who is fashion forward and radiates confidence in her urban surroundings. Constantly inspired by art, she often translates this affection through her clothing. Drawn towards painterly prints and unique details, she seeks out feminine garments with a downtown cool vibe to suit her “city girl at heart lifestyle. She is currently in need of several statement and core pieces for her spring/summer wardrobe. Keeping in mind her personal style, wants and needs, I designed a three look collection to suit her everyday whereabouts, whether it be a gallery hop, meeting friends for drinks, or attending a show of her favorite local artist.

Original romper
original romper design meet Rachael. As a graphic design student, she is moving from one thing another on a daily basis, from schoolwork to side projects to part-time modeling and photography. With an exhausting schedule, Rachael craves simplicity in life. She is especially fond of using fashion as an escapism, as her personal style constantly reflects the need for clarity in her life. She loves crisp, effortless pieces while usually gravitating towards soft, neutral tones. Rachael wanted a casual, yet sophisticated one piece that would be great for the hot summer months. I designed and constructed this simplistic, chic romper for Rachael’s summer wardrobe, perfect for anything from class to meeting with a client.

2014
the
megatrend:
Femininity toughens up Women are constantly moving towards status equality with men, rivaling for high standing positions and carrying independent lives. Even androgyny is now commonly accepted. Today’s modern woman is no doubt more self-sufficient, more career-oriented, and more adventurous than ever. She is no longer playing the traditional “girly-girl” role, but instead taking charge in her own expressive style. She embraces her femininity and but is also confident enough to toughen up her personal style with pieces “borrowed from the boys.” Sheers, laces, florals, and pastels will be matched with heavy furs, leather, boxy shapes, and menswear- inspired pieces for F/W 2014. Cropped hair cuts and bold cosmetics will also make for an edgy, adrongynous look in terms of beauty and styling. Femininity ultimately meets masculinity not only in the details of a garment, but in the entire design process of the fall/winter 2014 collections.

backcast
- Super sheers and silky brocades shine through for feminity, paired with leather ensembles and heavy furs in dark tones -Boxy, oversized coats make their way onto the runway in a wide variety of colors, including feminine pastel tones, hinting at the trending theme of masculinity in today’s modern woman -The pansuit regains status while bold, head-to-toe prints are favored with it

forecast
-Fur, sheer, and leather continue to reign for fall/winter. Heavy fur is paired with the whimsical sheer fabric to complete a look. Leather is also mixed with the light sheer and also found more in accents or mixed together with feminine lace or romantic florals -Pastel colors and feminine florals dominate the power suit -Large, box-like silhouettes continue to trend, except in the ultimate feminine pieces: skirts and dresses over tights and pants in feminine, neutral tones
heavy touch [ subtrend ]] It’s no doubt that leather and fur have been popular on the runway in the past couple seasons, but now the trend is beginning to emerge in a new light: ultra feminine fabrics meet traditional, masculine textiles. This hard and soft contrast is ultimately a result of the woman adopting traits of the man and to appear as resilient. The polarity is an attention grabber: exactly what the woman covets. Heavy, bulky furs are paired with delicate sheers and edgy leather accents are mixed in with lightweight laces and feminine details.
girl power [ subtrend ]] Thought pastels and delicate flowers were for spring? Think again. Super feminine colors and prints step up and take over the power suit. The need for a woman to still feel ladylike in the monotone workforce brings bout these pastels and florals that will occupy the classic menswear- inspired pantsuit and separates, representing the working, independent woman’s desire for the perfect feminine yet masculine attire.
out of the box [ subtrend ]] More dresses and skirts have started to appear on the runway, except this time introduced in a new way: oversized, boxy silhouettes. The woman’s desire to parallel her male counterpart drives the tendency for baggy, vuluminous shapes of menswear. Broad shoulders and exaggerated shapes convey the message of masculine pieces integrated into feminine pieces. Neutral colors relate to the masculine edge, while skirts and dresses define the femininity of a woman.

runway con f irmation
-Delicate and lightweight chiffons and organzas are styled with dramatic outerwear for on the runways for F/W 2014, epsecially dense furs and leathers - The sheer fabrics also appear on many evening wear styles with adjacent fabrics that are ornate and substantial, for example wool and heavy appliques -Oversized silhouettes show on runway, particularly in bright-toned outerwear and skirts - Pastel, spring-like colors are popular for outerwear and separates
graphing it out S/S 2014 forecast S/S 2014 takes us back to our high school geometry class, as a technical aspect to fashion is introduced through materials and graphics. Mathematical influence in this season’s trend is evident in geometric mesh and fishnet grid-like patterns, as well as prints inspired by graph paper. Precise, measured lines in varying thicknesses and monochromatic colors stand out against white backgrounds. Vertical and horizontal lines converge to form interesting mesh optical illlusions that reveal little peeks of skin. Prominent examples seen in Marc Jacobs S/S 2013 collection (left).
