It is rather by coincidence that I ended up in the world of architecture five years ago. But today I’m pretty sure I’ve found my right place. Sint Lucas and my year in the UK have given me the opportunity to deploy and get the best out of me. It has not always been easy, but with perseverance, positive attitude and eagerness to learn, I am ready and look forward with excitement to entering into the real world, to continuing to evolve and taking up new challenges. Enough talking, please take a look in my portfolio.. PORTFOLIO | Emily Bouché

Doel, a ghost town, is threatened with complete demolition due to the enlargement of the harbour of Antwerp. Political decisions have been taken and a few houses were randomly destroyed. Bricks lay everywhere. Different sizes, different colours. The aim of the project was to give the town a new life. The focus of the project starts near the church and the town hall, both buildings with historical value. A patchwork of 40 new dwellings, a market, library and a pub are designed. The typical Flemish row house in brick has been revisited. Term 6 _ Sophie Laenen - Harold Fallon

A Street in Belfast designed in group. A greengrocery with its residence designed individually. No history, no site, only a plot with small dimensions is given – Less than 4m for the front façade –. The façade has become a stockpiling of scaled wooden vegetable boxes. The store is a tube through the plot with the entrance in the front. The residence can be entered from the back and is mainly situated above the store with a terrace on the roof, where vegetables can grew naturally. Term 7 _ Andrew Clancy - Colm Moore

‘The Notorious case of Robert the Painter’

I once lived in the house of an infamous death. Time and the tidal nature of the streets – Baltic, Pacific, Atlantic Avenue – had almost washed it off, but late that summer my mother remembered hearing of the murder. When he had choked her and hit her on the head and stabbed her four or five times with a carving knife the killer caught the public imagination by scalding the woman with hot broth from the stove. He walked away through the wire-tense post-war streets. At night in the ashes of my own affairs I dowsed each room for signs of macabre frisson but the past remained dust. It would not stir at the thought of her votive lamps, of the floor where her dentures fell, or her roses in the garden, blooming yearly.

7 images say more than 10 000 words. As preparation to the thesis, students of the first Master in architecture in Belfast have to write a dissertation. This assignment has been a unique opportunity for me to explore the city from a different point of view. The subject was free and I decided to take the main thing that intrigued me in Belfast; the barriers, the physical barriers made of concrete and steel wire, The Peace lines, which divide the Catholic from the Protestants. The first part of this research is a focus on the understanding of the history of Belfast. What are the origins of those walls? Secondly, I attempted with the help of pictures, originals and montages, to find out what those walls really mean to the people of Belfast. Term 8 _ Paul Larmour - Karim Hadjri

Universität Lichtenstein organises every year an international workshop, where the main objective is the research to the relation between material, construction and architectural expression. The theme of the year 2011 was plywood (veneer) and chipboard (particle). After an intensive introduction of the material and all techniques of timber assemblages, it was our turn to design. After a few days brainstorming and experiences we came with the result of a hanging structure of 30 plywood panels in a tower of brick, with no rope or nail. The port of Zeebrugge counts 60.000 Antifer cubes, different in scale and the load depending on the location where they are situated in the harbour. Based on this principle the new radar tower - facade, plan, roof and even the furniture - has been designed. The Façade is composed of two layers. The first layer, characterized by porosity in armed concrete is the structure of the building. The second layer, characterized by density is a folded steel profile. Depending on the function behind the density is different (6.25% -25%).
