skin; the building’s outer surface is constructed using a combination of white masonry concrete and glass, a unique combination including carefully places swells amd windows in order to penetrate light. Along north and south elevations, the skin has been manipulated through a series of curvilinear swells whjoch regulate light and provide select views and privacy for different areas of the home. The Ground Floor level mainly uses sliding glass doors and pivoting doors to allow natural light and sandstone rock into the building. On the First Floor level, cantilevers of glass are placed at each end in order to control the passafge of light into the bedrooms. privacy is provided with the option of two or more layers of curtain. east elevation first floor plan

structure;

01A Sea Cliff House Analysis

The building’s structure can be described as a rectilinear box of reinforced concrete slabs held above a series of concrete walls. There are four main levels of the building, the basement level, the ground floor, first floor and attic level. Each level rests upon reinforced concrete. The curved nature of the attic level provides structural contrast with the levels below, which are regulated. The building’s structure acts as a strategy for directing passage, views, axis, motion and penetrating light through the rectilinear shape.

Analysis, diagrams and drawings highlight the relationship between the constituent parts, while demonstrating their role in the functioning of the building as a whole. Diagrams demonstrate how the spaces are arranged, how they are shaped to perform in specific ways, contributing to the careful consideration of axis, passage, view, penetrating light, space of motion and space of repose.

spatial complexity; The building is a series of interlocking spaces utilising several spatial elements and is not straightforward, due to its several levels, complex stairs and spaces, differing ceiling heights and corridors. The building plays with both skin and structure in order to control views, privacy and penetrate light by pushing out the concrete to create curved openings in different directions. Natural sandstone invades certain areas of the basement level as a strategy of retaining natural elements of the site.

Boundaries Rendered Isometric

the building I have designed is a home that incorporates several interior and exterior boundaries that direct passages of view, light and motion. The building is made up of spaces linked with other spaces via smaller corridors. On the first floor, the large glass doors on the north elevation act as a boundary in which the exterior and interior interact with each other. I have pushed this boundary through the extension of the marble floor past the glass wall and out into the exterior. A large marble feature wall prevents views from the south side of the exterior and the north side to coexist with one another.

emerge; to come forth into view or notice the space is intended for a collector of vintage bicycles and parts. In this sense I have created a series of openings and glass windows which allow certain aspects of the interior to come forth and into view. The base level incorporates an underground grotto, intended for natural sandstone to come into the space. The building has a large main area in which the collector can test and use the bicycles, as well as repaint or repair parts for the showroom. The green areas on the roof are openings where people can relax.

IS 03A Pavilion for Exchange Initial Iterative Sketches

‘the goods line’ will be a space and area in which several people use to travel through to get to University and work, and then home again. I have designed my pavilion as an exercise space with several spin cycle machines, treadmills and rowing machines that busy workers are able to get in their workout either on their way to, home or during working hours.

Pavilion for Exchange Photoshop Drawing Perspectives As an exchange for doing exercise in the pavilion, they are able to use the grassy area at the rear of the pavilion to cool down, and rehydrate with a fresh juice. I have designed the pavilion with a complete glass front with a completely covered roof, as it is situated in a space that will receive strong sunlight in the middle of the day. Exercisers face the front elevation where two media walls are situated, projecting motivating images and music to create a positive vibe in the pavilion. People enter through the front in which the juicing station is situated. The afternoon sun will shine through the small openings of glass, but not intrude on exercisers, due to the placement of the media wall. emily carter 12044475
