This Month’s Issue! WHEN YOU ARE NOT BUSY RUNNING THE SHOW AT 20 SOMETHING MAGAZINE, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO? When I am not working on 20SS I am probably working on one of my other projects. More than likely I am tied up in my next big event! That or trying to take over the world with Cute In Yellow Inc.
April 2013 Issue www.20somethingsudbury.ca
INTRODUCTION
I sat here for many hours contemplating what I would write for my first Editor’s Note with 20Something Magazine. Alas, it ended up being the very last thing that I sent over to our publisher and I apologize for the lack of hilarity and creativity, but we have some serious issues to come clean about, before we can proceed. So next time, 20Somethings, I’ll really bring it! Spring is here – FINALLY (the groundhog must die.) Of course with Spring we get to say goodbye to the last stand of the winter blues and look forward to the coming summer….blah blah blah (spring metaphors and rainbows…) The most important point I have to make is this: 20Somethings, we deeply apologize we were unable to bring you a March Edition of 20Something Sudbury Magazine. We are sorry that we let you down. We truly do hope you can forgive us and I also want to let you know this issue is not lost, as a matter of fact, we will be releasing this issue randomly this year – so watch out for it. Much like my terrible attempt at trying to wrap a spring metaphor into this entire thing, we, at 20Something, have been going through, and following through with many changes over these last weeks. We are sure you may have heard the drama and the controversy – and really, that is alright by us. After all, nothing is good without a little scandal. Just know this: We are not “backing off”; We are not “letting up”; we are moving forward and with full force and with an improved vision! We have done some internal reconstruction and stayed up many late nights deciding the direction in which our magazine would take and we think you will appreciate all that is to come. I feel so excited and privileged to be a part of this amazingly creative and brilliant team! I am really looking forward to this new season and adventure in my life. So here is out with the old and in with the new – cheers to sunnier days, more Sudlebs, bikini-clad Smokeshows, scandal, new featured articles, crazier events and lots more to come! We are going to be evolving and we hope that you will come along for the action! Much Love, Ashley Sidun Editor in Chief 20Something Sudbury Magazine

KELSEY CUTINELLO 24 - Publisher
WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE THING ABOUT SUDBURY? The small town feel. I like going about my normal day and bumping into familiar faces. IF YOU WON 10 MILLION DOLLARS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? Take on another challenge. Live abroad. Buy my parents a golf course. Fulfill my goal of being a millionaire by 30. Take a vacation. WHEN YOU ARE NOT BUSY EDITING FOR 20 SOMETHING MAGAZINE, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO? When I’m not editing the magazine I’m either working at HSN in their communications department or living in the LU library attempting to complete my communications degree. Sometimes I knit scarves and search Pinterest for DIY projects and recipes I’ll never find time to make.
EMILY FRANCESCHINI 23 - Executive Editor
WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE THING ABOUT SUDBURY? My absolute favorite thing about living in Sudbury is definitely the lakes in the summer. I’m also a pretty big fan of Toppers Pizza and Vespa Poutine, not sure I could survive in anywhere without. IF YOU WON 10 MILLION DOLLARS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? Buy a lot of beads, travel everywhere and take my friends to Yacht Week and Tomorrowland. WHEN YOU ARE NOT WRITING FOR 20 SOMETHING MAGAZINE, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO? When I’m not writing for 20ss, I’m either working as a project manager/estimator for Castellan James + Partners Architects Inc and Polestar CM Inc (day job), snowboarding, blogging for City’s World, attending YPA committee meetings or working on online courses towards my PQS designation.
KHRIS CACCIOTTI 25 - Writer -”City’s World”
WHAT IS YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE THING ABOUT SUDBURY? My favourite thing about Sudbury is that it’s not huge. I have friends in all areas of Sudbury and none are more than a 20 minute drive away. IF YOU WON 10 MILLION DOLLARS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? Invest. Travel the world, doing the coolest stuff imaginable, film everything, and drop the craziest edits ever produced. Spread City’s World across the globe.

Sudbury Burlesque
Sudbury Burlesque is Sudbury Ontario’s premiere burlesque company. The company got its start in 2012 after founders, Colin Eady and Jess Crowe, decided the city was ready for it. Shows feature professional dancers, singers, and circus performers

Sudbury Burlesque April 2013 Issue www.20somethingsudbury.ca
How did Sudbury Burlesque come to be? It started with a chat over dinner about how Sudbury is really starting to “get with the times”. Our downtown core is developing with new businesses opening up. The arts community has been collaborating more and more, coming up with all of these new ideas that are really expanding the culture. We thought it would be nice if there were more things to do in the evening besides going out to a club. We both love dancing, performance, theatre and live music. Colin used to attend weekly burlesque nights when he lived in Toronto and Vancouver and basically he just said, “I think Sudbury is ready for it”. There has been an amazing shift, especially downtown Sudbury since places like the Formagerie Elgin and the Speakeasy have opened. I feel like the downtown is thriving with positive, fun, and openminded people who are all excited to share their talents and bring more excitement to this city.
How did the first performance feel on a personal level? The first performance was scary. I’m not going to lie; I had a pretty large glass of wine before I went on stage. But it was also very freeing, there is no time for insecurity when you are doing burlesque. It helped me to love my body, check my insecurities at the door, and to just let go and not care or think about what others may think of me. I also felt very happy doing

Have you encountered any opposition along the way of putting this on?
A lot of people, women in particular, have approached us after the show saying they themselves felt empowered after watching it.
What are you doing with this next show in April that is different than the others? Different? Each show is different from the last, since they are all themed shows. The next one will be taking place April 20th and 21st at The Formagerie Elgin. It is titled, “High on Mount Olympus,” so expect gods/ goddesses and mythical creatures. We may do a little bit more audience participation for the next show, but we don’t want to say too much. I guess you’ll just have to buy a ticket if you want to find out.

RESPECT IS BURNING Age: 24
What is the craziest thing
Favourite part of working at Respect is Burning Supperclub (RiB):
that has ever happened to you while working at RiB?
I love the people I get to interact with daily, the food is great and I’ve developed some amazing friendships over the years that I’ve been there. Are there any upcoming events or promotions we should know about? Currently we’re running our “NO PEEKING” promotion; our Members get a special envelope containing prizes redeemable only if they manage not to open their surprises until they come for dinner. Also, we’re planning some big things behind closed doors here so STAY TUNED to see what’s coming next. Something interesting people do not know about you: I’m from Chatham, it’s way in the south. So although I’m not a Sudbury native, I’ve been here for about 6 years and don’t see myself anywhere else for the time being - I love this city.
Four years ago on my birthday the downstairs dining room caught on fire. It was closer to the end of the evening and we had to rush everyone and ourselves out when we noticed smoked billowing from the stairwell - needless to say Respect was burning. What fictional character do you think is most like you? I’ve never been asked this questions so finding an answer is pretty difficult so I’m just going to say that when I was young, like most girls, I wanted to BE the Little Mermaid When you are not working at RiB what are you doing? Well I’m usually either at my other serving job or socializing. I’m happy the nice weather is finally arriving as I plan on spending a lot of time outdoors this summer!

Music
April 2013 Issue www.20somethingsudbury.ca
With dance music’s popularity reaching new heights, it was only a
matter of time before a local wowed us with their producing skills.
Enter Alex Jibb, an 18-year old better known as Gallamine. We’re not saying Gallamine is the first of his kind here in Sudbury. But there is no denying the impact he is putting on the local EDM scene here. With releases on Beatport, as well a potential deal with a huge television show, things are only looking up for this young wunderkind.

What Time is it? 4:20 KRISTOFER CACCIOTTI
4:20. It represents a time; it represents a day; and for an entire demographic of people, it represents identification to the cannabis subculture. The cannabis-consuming community has had 4:20 in their lexicon since the early 70s. In 1971, a group of kids in San Raphael, California, self-titled The Waldos, got wind of an abandoned marijuana crop. On days when they would search for the mystery crop, they would meet at the statue of Louis Pasteur, at guess what time? You got it, 4:20pm. The Waldos code named their operation “4:20 Louis,” but after many failed attempts, it got short-formed to 4:20, which eventually became the codeword used by kids at the time to refer to smoking cannabis. Speaking of smoking, below are some of the most creative and challenging joints to roll. Do you have the skills required to conjure up one of these masterpieces?
