Something interesting people don’t know about you. I grew up in the small town of Paris, On. And have only been in Sudbury for six years now, but can definitely say “I Live Up Here”. Craziest thing that has ever happened to you while working? Well… considering I’ve been a part of all of the Sudbury Burlesque shows that have happened thus far, being half-naked in front of regular customers easily tops the list. When you aren’t working what can you be found doing? You can find me mixing delicious drinks at the Speakeasy on Tuesday nights, and occasionally singing my little heart out as Andy & the Mountain. Best tip you’ve ever received. Well the real answer is probably inappropriate for the magazine so… let’s say “Don’t eat yellow snow” or “if you rub a fireman’s helmet, he’ll get mad and spit in your face.”

COMPETITIVE EATING!
www.20somethingsudbury.ca
KRISTOFER CACCIOTTI : CITY’S WORLD When I ask you to name a sport, what comes to mind? Hockey? Football? Snowboarding? There’s an obscure sport emerging that may be more physically and mentally taxing than any of those...Competitive eating. This grueling sport involves eating a large quantity of food in a short amount of time, with most contests being less than ten minutes in length. Obviously, the competitor who has consumed the most food by the end of the predetermined time limit is declared the winner. Now you’re thinking, “eating isn’t hard at all, how can it be considered a sport?” If you share in this school of thought, you’ve clearly never been to a speed eating competition. Competitors relentlessly cram food into their mouths, dunking each piece of food into water to aid in swallowing. With no consideration to what they look like to the crowd, competitors dunk, gorge, shove, chew (barely)and swallow as much food as physically possible, racing not only against the competitors beside them, but against the clock as well. Currently, the competitive eater who is making the most waves is Jamie “The Bear” McDonald. This man is an absolute beast! Last year, he was named competitive eating’s Rookie of the Year, and this year, All Pro Eating named McDonald the undisputed #1 Ranked Independent Competitive Eater in the World. I met Jamie at an International Pizza Eating Championship at Pie Wood Fired Pizza Joint, in Barrie, Ontario. I asked him a couple of questions about the unique sport that he has recently been dominating: Cw: Mentally, how do you prepare for an eating competition? The Bear: I have a background in bodybuilding, football and mountain biking and the prep is no different than what I would use in these sports. Visualization is very important. I will spend time leading up to the event visualizing how I think it will go, and how I will handle the food. Just before the contest, I like to clear my mind of everything but the event. Distractions can slow you down or even cause you to choke. Cw: What kind of food/drink is good for stretching out your stomach? The Bear: Because of my involvement with bodybuilding I like to keep my body fat < 9-10%. Therefore I use strictly vegetables and sugarless electrolyte drinks for stretching, to keep the caloric impact as low as possible. Cw: I’ve heard people talk about a “six-minute wall.” Explain the 6-minute wall, and how you push through it. The Bear: At about 5 to 6 minutes, your mind tries to stop what you are doing, and you will start slowing your pace. Assuming that there are no capacity issues, this is where your willpower and awareness come in and you have to focus on keeping the pace and sometimes even kicking it into high gear. This ability is what separates the good from the great. facebook | JamietheBearMcDonald twitter | eatbeareat youtube | Jamie McDonald website |jamiethebearmcdonald.com

Cody Duguay 20SS: How did it all start? What influenced you to begin Has been Hockey Apparel?
20SS: Biggest accomplishment?
CD: Hasbeen Cup, my passion for hockey and being a true 100% Hasbeen to the max. My partner Marc Siren, and his abilities to get s*** done! Our chemistry is unmatched and we knew we would be in business together since College. We’ve get tons of support from our families and friends…
CD: Becoming an entrepreneur – a lot of people have great ideas and can talk the talk, but very few people actually take action and go for it. I have a dream and I am pursuing it every day, I am pursuing it right now through this article and it is one of the greatest feelings in the world – Knowing that you are pursuing your dream and are responsible for your own success. I truly believe that the sky is the limit and I will enjoy every step of the way.
20SS: The t-shirt sayings are hilarious, who comes up with those?
20SS: When you aren’t doing HHA stuff, what are you doing?
CD: I owe the ideas to my hockey buddies. You can hear most of the sayings in any beer league dressing room and I just put the sayings to paper and had my graphic designer come up with a logo that suits my vision.
CD: Work part-time, play hockey, work-out occasionally, help develop SYA, chill-out and relax in da hood).
20SS: How has the response been? CD: The response that we receive for HHA has been phenomenal. Regardless of the hockey history of the crowd we are explaining the idea of HHA to, the reaction is always positive. As we begin to introduce what it is about and who our market is, the reactions are always enthusiastic. We have also received great feedback from professionals within the community including Pro-am Sports, Hockey Night in Canada and Q92.
20SS: Where can we get our hands on some Hasbeen Hockey Apparel? CD: We currently have a newly developed website that has an integrated shopping cart to allow people to purchase the apparel from anywhere in Canada www.hasbeenhockeyapparel.com www.facebook.com/hasbeenhockeyapparel
20SS: Favourite part of what you do? CD: Reuniting Canadian Hasbeens through our brand and what we stand for. Attending sporting events and seeing our customer’s reactions to the whole idea of HHA is incredibly motivating and drives us towards success.

sudleb Cora Gillespie 20SS: What influenced you to become a makeup artist? What inspired this career choice? CG: What influenced and inspired me to become a Makeup Artist wasn’t just one thing. I discovered this tremendous passion at a very young age, probably four years old. Ever since I could get my hands on my moms’ lipsticks, eye shadows, blush and mascara - that was it. I was hooked, and to this day I still am! 20SS: You recently graduated from Complections, how was that? CG: Complections College of Makeup Art and Design is the best school ever. I absolutely loved every single day that I was there and I go back to visit whenever I can. The course I graduated from is called the Complete Makeup Artist Program. It is eight months long, 5 days a week, 8 hours each day and consists of; Hairstyling, Fashion, Theater, Wig Knotting, Film & Television, Special Effects, Prosthetics and Creature Design. I always looked forward to every school day because I knew that I would be learning something new and exciting. 20SS: If we looked into your makeup kit what would we see? What are your products of choice? CG: Well if you looked into my kit you would find everything that can turn any average person into a beauty queen or a crazy scary monster. Ranging from my gorgeous Makeup Forever, Urban Decay products, Kryolan eye shadow, lipstick, and sculpting pallets to liquid latex, 99% alcohol, witch hazel, faux flesh, fake blood, skin illustrator and of course my iWatta Airbrush.
20SS: Biggest accomplishment so far CG: My biggest accomplishment so far would have to be working for Shemar Moore (Derrick Morgan from Criminal Minds) to launch his new clothing line called ‘Baby Girl’. He most definitely knows how to have a good time and was an absolute blast to work with. 20SS: What do you love most about what you do? CG: What I love most about what I do is that not only do I have the best time meeting new people, making new connections, working events, photo shoots, weddings, short films and television shows… It’s the outcome and the expression on the bride’s face when she looks in the mirror, or when the model looks at his/her test shots. It’s that little boost that we need to feel comfortable and I love that I can provide that. It’s also the fact that I am able to say that I had a dream and I achieved it. I am doing what I love to do every single day and not many people can say that. I’m grateful that I was able to figure out what I wanted to do with my life at such a young age and to have had the privilege of ¬going to the number one Makeup Academy in North America, Complections. 20SS: Give our readers your best beauty tip CG: The best beauty tip I can give you is to make sure that you are always comfortable in your own skin. That you are happy with that person starring back at you in the mirror everyday. If you’re not, change, because true beauty comes from within and makeup is just a boost, an expression of it. 20SS: What else do you love doing?
20SS: Go to look – What is your favourite makeup style? CG: For a Makeup Artist I don’t wear a lot of makeup myself. My go to look is usually the clean natural beauty look with the occasional winged liner or a splash of colour with lipstick. It’s quick and easy with 7 simple steps! • Bb cream or light liquid foundation • Concealer for those dark circle days • Translucent powder to set • Brows filled • Sculpt the face with Contour, Blush/Bronzer, Highlight • Lashes • Winged liner/Lipstick
CG: I love to sing, dance, paint, draw/sketch, shop and adventure. I love going out with my friends and family, going to my cottage, travelling, and trying new things. 20SS: Future plans? CG: Future plans are still being mapped out… I definitely want to stay in Toronto for a few more years, but eventually I would like to move to Los Angeles or New York. Wherever my work takes me that is where I will go. I am dedicated, passionate and excited for my career to take off. Website: www.coriginalmakeup.ca Instagram: www.instagram.com/cor_mua Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/cor.mua
20SS: You also do special Effects, Prosthetics and Creature Design, elaborate on this… CG: Special Effects, Prosthetics and Creature Design are everything ranging from bruises, lacerations, abrasions, incisions, face/body morphing, to monster making! Every time you see a cut or a monster on TV that’s exactly what I do and it’s so much fun.

“I AM BORED” *SHAWN MCLAREN*
I hate it when someone comes up to me and says “I am bored.” I don’t hate them for saying it. I don’t hate those 3 little words that have come out of their mouths. I hate the awkward pause afterwards when they look at me, expecting me to say something like, “Perfect! Let’s go skydiving!” And then, when I do whip out tickets to see Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars fight to the death in the Thunderdome on unicorns, they look at me and say, “Nah, I don’t want to do that.” Who the f***wouldn’t want to see that??? My point is that I have no patience or tolerance for someone who complains that they are bored when they don’t do anything about it. Of course sitting on your couch, watching Big Brother and looking at other people’s exciting lives on Instagram is boring because you have been doing it for 3 years straight. If you are bored, you are wasting precious time on it. Most often, the people who are bored are the boring. Yep! I said it. If you are reading this thinking, “I’m not boring...there just isn’t anything to do in Sudbury” can you please send your street address to shawn@20somethingsudbury.com so I can come to your house to either...
I will leave you with a few tips to pass the time if you are bored. 1. Sneak up behind a hipster with huge spacers in their ears. Put a padlock in the loop and run away screaming “I liked padlocks before you did!” 2. If you have a friend with a bird, get really drunk and throw their bird at their piggy bank yelling, “Angry Birds” 3. Build a blanket fort all over your house and invite your friends over for a party. The code word to enter the fort will be “bananas” The safety word to get out of the fort will be “pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis”
PHOTOBOMBS!
A. Slap some sense into you if you are a dude. B. Take you out on the town if you are babe. C. Help you pack for Toronto so you can be bored there if you are a douche.
I know that life isn’t going to be a raging party or a tropical trip all the time, but boredom is something we create for ourselves and Sudbury doesn’t have anything to do with it. There are tons of things happening around town. Did you see the giant event calendar in the middle of this magazine? Go catch a show at the Fromagerie or the Speakeasy! Comedy nights at Little Montreal and great bands at Peddlers or the Nightclub! Go to a theme night at SRO! Bars don’t do it for you? Catch a show at the STC. Take a walk on the huge boardwalk surrounding that giant lake right in the middle of town. Go camping, take a hike, read a book to an old lady! DO SOMETHING but for the love of God, don’t tell me you are bored. You are alive aren’t you? That is pretty exciting in itself. Life isn’t boring, the people wasting it are.
