If there’s anything I am sure about in my life, it’s the way I dress, the other stuff I am still working on. My entire life from a young age since receiving a Barbie designer kit has coveted Fashion. I have collected magazines since I was ten - I know this because I have Vogue magazines dating back to 1995. My love grew for Fashion during my time spent away at Design School. I spent everyday creating and learning from people who shared the same love for Fashion as I did. What I learned most importantly is that Fashion is the only way to speak to the world about who you are at first glance. With that being said, be free with your choices. Do not stick to trends, wear what flatters you and makes you feel confident and remember to keep your classy in check Show skin strategically! Start off with finding out what flatters your silhouette. People tend to pack on extra pounds when dressing themselves. Find out what works for you and purchase multiples. I know my perfect denim fit so I barley try pants on before buying them and always consider Lycra in your denim, it will save your ass literally nobody wants to see a deflated derrière. In general find your favourite parts and draw attention to them tastefully. As for men it’s simple - wear tailored and always have on a nice pair of shoes. Lose the skater shoes and grow up. If you skateboard that’s awesome save that footwear for the park. Think a nice boat shoe or a derby for evening or a wingtip for dressing up during the day. As for big name designers YES go for it if you can, but if you can’t make sure to splurge on a classic. Classics are timeless and never fade. Fashion is so accessible these days it’s so easy to look your best without breaking the bank!

4. Pick up your liner again and line the top of your brows from head-arch-tip. Then same thing; blend your line in with the liner in short feathery strokes in the way the hair grows. 5. Once again take your spoolie and comb the hair in the way it grows then back up one last time. 6. Grab your angled brush and shadow lightly fill in the rest of the gaps or holes in the way the hair in growing. (Careful not to add too much at this point! A little goes a long way.) Then brush your brows in the way that they grow. 7. Take a Qtip and clean up any residue around the brow shape. 8. Now take your flat concealer brush and a little bit of concealer and precisely outline the shape of your brow. Now blend out your concealer first with the flat then the blending brush. And VOILA! If you like a more gradient brow than try out these next two steps…

9

10

6

3. Now take your spoolie and comb in the way that your hair is growing to blend in the liner. After this brush all your hair downwards.

8

Remember dress to please you, turn heads for all the right reasons, and of course make it a fun head to toe experience.

PAGE

2. Take your eyebrow pencil and underline the bottom of your brows starting from the head to arch to tip. From there, starting at the head of your brows blend in the line with your liner in short feathery strokes in the way your hair is growing.

9. Grab your concealer brush and lightly feather in some strokes right at the head the blend throughout all the way to the tip. 10. Use your spoolie and comb up, then back to normal and all done!

If you knew me, you’d know I love everything about fashion. Even though I only shopped in the boys department until I was 13, I was still voted “most likely to be a fashion designer” by my high school graduating class. You could say that I still take some of that tomboyish flare from my childhood and incorporated it into my current style. I always like to look put-together, yet still feel comfortable. My shirts are usually only tucked in halfway, and I am often seen wearing oversized blazers and patterned pants and maxis. That being said, having my own personal style gives me confidence, and yours should too! The best thing about fashion is that it is there for you to take risks; try new trends, a new cut, or mix textures and patterns—it’s about having fun. Personal tip: Being fashionable doesn’t necessarily mean buying designer brands. I’m a sucker for Forever 21 (but really, who isn’t?) and a lot of my clothes are vintage or one-of-a-kind, but none of them break the bank! When you do splurge, make sure it’s an investment piece that you can get a lot of use from. If it costs $100, will you wear or use it 100 times? Be confident, be fierce, and rock a personal style that defines only you!

Music www.20somethingsudbury.ca

Since

1997,

Summerfest

has

been

bringing

some

amazing

entertainment to Sudbury and attracting hundreds of people to our citys core. The Grace Hartman Ampitheatre has been the stage for some amazing acts like Carly Rae Jepson and this years headliner’s include Gord Bamford, Bog Sygar, Loverboy, and Down With Webster. Summerfest is one of Sudburys top festivals and a favourite for many 20 somethings. The festival is run solely by amazing volunteers who give their time to make sure Summerfest is a success every year. If you are a 20 something looking for a way to get involved in your community, this is a great place to start. Volunteer your time and get to see some amazing live music, what more could you ask for? If it wasn’t for these great volunteers, some of whom have been volunteering there since the beginning, Sudbury wouldn’t have the opportunity to spend a beautiful August weekend by the lake, enjoying great music and supporting our community.

SRO | The Grand Nightclub | Fuse Nightclub | Future Shop

Favorite part of what you do? There are many parts to the work I do working in Sudbury’s nightclub industry. Photography is by far what people see most of my work but there is also graphic design for the many advertisements promoting events and shows. Both allow me to flex my creativity, which I would say is my favorite part. Upcoming events at your work? Now that the renovations for SRO Nightclub are complete there are many new events and promotions on the way. We are looking at having monthly dance classes and Rock Band (the video game) competitions. Something interesting people don’t know about you. Well before I was a graphic designer and a photographer I was a cook. I got into cooking while I was still in high school. I went on to get my Red Seal in the culinary arts.

Craziest thing that has ever happened to you while working. Well I was lucky enough to be invited along on a trip to Toronto sponsored by Diageo to learn some advanced bartending techniques. When I began working in the bars I started as a bar back which requires you to have your smart serve. Although I wasn’t a real bartender this was a chance to learn some cool skills. We got hands on training with some award-winning bartenders and got the first taste of Ciroc when it was just becoming available in Canada. When you aren’t at work what can you be found doing? Work is a full time gig for me. When I’m not taking photos I’m editing photos or creating a new design. My laptop is with me wherever I go. I do enjoy taking it over to the Fromagerie. That way I can sit and do my work with a nice glass of wine. You always run into someone there. Another thing you might find me doing is my hobby. I make chainmail jewelry, bracelets, necklaces, rings, that kind of thing. I like to think of it as manly knitting. Best tip you’ve ever received. People don’t really tip the photographer although it has happened occasionally. One guy actually tipped me a $1.30, which was a little funny, but I appreciated it nonetheless. Most often people offer to buy me a drink but work comes first.

You Should Eat Here! IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY CHECKED OUT TONY V’S PATIO YOU ARE MISSING OUT. LOCATED AT 1323 MARTINDALE ROAD IN THE SOUTHEND, TONY V’S IS A GREAT FAMILY FRIENDLY RESTAURANT WITH ONE OF THE BEST PATIOS IN SUDBURY. BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND ENJOY A JUG OF DRAUGHT FOR JUST $12.50 EVERY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY! THEIR MENU FEATURES AMAZING GREEK AND ITALIAN CUISINE AT AFFORDABLE PRICES. WE SUGGEST TRYING THE MINI ARANCINI – THESE SAFFRON RICE BALLS STUFFED WITH TOMATO SAUCE AND MOZZARELLA WOULD DEFINITELY WIN FOR BEST APPETIZER EVER. CHECK OUT THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE TO FIND OUT WHEN YOU CAN CATCH SOME LIVE MUSIC ON THEIR PATIO. TONY V’S ALSO CATERS, SO CHECK OUT WWW.TONYVS.COM TO HAVE THEM CATER YOUR NEXT EVENT. PAGE

aunt zelda Hey ya sexy biatches! I use the term Biatches to say hello to everyone

When did everyone become so unbelievably afraid of commitment that

reading this.

we can’t even call it “dating” anymore? It has to be “hanging out with this

Man, woman, transgendered, confused or Ken dolls.

don’t care what gender you are; you are all Biatches to me.

I

I wanted

to start this new advice column by sharing a little cautionary rant with all of you fine biatches navigating the crazy and soul crushing world of modern “dating”. I use the term “dating” very loosely because it isn’t even “dating” any more. “Dating” used to be when you like someone, you ask them out on an actual “date” and then you continue to go on more “dates” depending on how much the two of you get along. If the dates go well, then you decide if the two, or three or four of you, depending on how freaky you like, want to start an actual “relationship”. Seems pretty simple right?

You know what I blame? Pornography. Not all of God’s beautiful porno. I am not blaming the actual content at all. What I do think is screwing up a whole whack of 20 something’s is the fact that porn has never been more readily accessible. I don’t borrow the cell phones of young men because I know what they have been doing with it.

My nephew’s iPhone looks

like a tie-dye shirt in black light. Back in my day, we had to find our first porn magazine in the woods or stay up late to watch “Bleu Nuit”. Now, Douchey McDouchertons everywhere have one hand on their cell phone and one hand in the pocket, watching whatever they want, immediately

Well no biatches…it isn’t because there is some people out there whose idea of asking a girl out on a date is sending a dick pic over Facebook and then asking “If I can make them cum!”

guy” or I am “talking to this girl.”

The nerve!

I may be a sexually

free mature woman who likes to make people tingle with laughter and I may give away dildos to make them quiver with ecstasy but I am not an easy lay. I recently joined Facebook and almost immediately, I had some rather rude gentleman message me a picture of his rather pathetic penis with the aforementioned proposition. When did “asking a lady out” turn into ungentlemanly propositions with poorly lit pictures of their private parts?

and all the time. I am no psychologist, but I have noticed that this constant access has wired the brains of men and women with some unrealistic ideas about sex and relationships. Now more than ever, boys look at woman as sex objects, expecting them to be nymphos worshipping the tiny titan in that POF dick pic. And ladies, you know I love you because you are my sistas but the next time a GENTLEMAN wants to take you for dinner; that’s not creepy. It is what normal people do.

Call me crazy but I think creepy is

what you call “hooking up”. Send your questions, comment and stories to askauntzelda@gmail.com

When did men who have the balls to ask a girl out to dinner become “creepy” but drunken Tinder hook ups became normal?

YES THEATRE LIGHTS UP ON WASHINGTON HEIGHTS YES THEATRE IS SERVING UP SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THEIR 5TH SEASON WITH A PRODUCTION OF THE TONY AWARD WINNING MUSICAL IN THE HEIGHTS. WE TALKED WITH YES THEATRE CO-FOUNDER ALESSANDRO COSTANTINI AND GOT THE FULL SCOOP. 20SS: WHAT IS IN THE HEIGHTS ALL ABOUT? YES: In the Heights is essentially a story about home. The characters live in a tight knit corner of the Washington Heights area of Manhattan. Most are immigrants from Spanish speaking countries like Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, etc. Some of the characters dream of moving to a nicer area of the city, or of moving back to their home country, while others are fiercely committed to their community in Washington Heights. What happens is Usnavi, who runs the convenience shop, finds out that he’s sold a winning lottery ticket for 96 000 dollars. The story unfolds from there. It’s really cool, fun, and sexy. 20SS: WHAT SETS THIS SHOW APART FROM OTHER PRODUCTIONS YES HAS TAKEN ON? YES: In the Heights is my favourite musical. Janie, our choreographer, and I first connected over this show and we’ve been listening to it as a cast for years. It’s probably our favourite to jam to. The music is so good. It’s rap, hip hop, Latin, and Broadway inspired. It’s also the most modern piece we’ve done so far. It has definite appeal for a young cast and audience. 20SS: THIS IS YES’S 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, IS THERE A SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE TO CHOOSING THIS SHOW? YES: This one was chosen specifically for our fifth year anniversary because it celebrates the themes we’ve experienced at YES over the last five years - home, moving away, change in a community of people staying true to your roots. 20SS: WHERE CAN WE GET MORE INFORMATION AND TICKETS? YES: You can call the Sudbury Theatre Centre to reserve tickets at 705 674 8381. You can also buy tickets online via our website, yestheatre. com. You can buy them in person at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, too (170 Shaughnessy).

YES THEATRE CELEBRATES 5 YEARS OF PASSION AND ART 20SS: HOW DID YES GET STARTED? YES: YES was started as a place for young people to stage the plays we love at a quality that respects the high level of talent and potential in the city. The cultivation of young local artists is very important to us, and in fact many of our artists have gone on to study or pursue the performing arts professionally. We have been successful because of our core value of positive, creative energy. It’s infectious for our audiences. The young artists we work with are the most hardworking and generous people I know. There is a level of professionalism that is very important to produce quality pieces. And now, as we’ve expanded, we’ve been able to provide even more opportunities for the young people in this city; we’ve held our first Acting Workshop and are preparing to award scholarships to those of our cast members who are going on to study acting or performing arts. It’s very exciting. 20SS: ARE YOU SURPRISED AT THE SUCCESS YES HAS HAD OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS? YES: We were very surprised ourselves. There was never a doubt that we were doing great work and the energy that was created the summer we started was unreal. Others were doubtful before they saw our work; how could a group of people who were so young pull off something so huge? But since then we’ve built a strong reputation in the city. 20SS: WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YES IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS? YES: We hope to continue with the expansion of the company like we’ve seen this year. We’re staging two musicals this year rather than the usual one, Jesus Christ Superstar and In the Heights, as well as presenting our first play, Salt Water Moon in collaboration with Single Thread Theatre, plus a very exciting concert version of Les Miserables in collaboration with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra in December, on top of our first Acting Workshop. So in the future, these types of ambitious projects will continue.

Chelsee Bradbury photographer 20SS: When did you first become interested in photography?

20SS: What advice would you give other aspiring photographers?

CB: In grade 10, a best friend of mine, Kari Mercer, got me interested in photography. She currently owns “Neon Lights Studios” in Sudbury. If it weren’t for her, I don’t know where I would be.

CB: Keep your head up, it’s a rough start at first but don’t give up. Find your style, keep it, and love it. Don’t worry about what other people are doing, do things for you. Here is an inspirational quote from a favourite artist of mine, “Have no fear of perfection - you’ll never reach It.” Salvador Dalí

20SS: What inspires you? What type of shoot is your favourite? CB: Beautiful minds inspire me, anything unique, crazy and adventurous! I also can’t forget my rock music! I love creative high fashion photography & fashion underwater. There is so many things you can do, the options are endless! 20SS: Top 3 sexiest celebrity male models you would love to do a shoot with? 1. Jensen Ackles - it’s all about those eyelashes and striking eyes 2. Theo James - Perfect jaw structure and those dark eyebrows

20SS: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? CB: I hope to be with a magazine company as either a photographer or graphic designer, I dream big - but I am only on the earth once, I have to strive for something… right? 20SS: What is something people don’t know about you? CB: I have a strange obsession with t-rex’s, Dodge Ram trucks, Scooby Doo and huskies

3. Paul Walker - (Rest in Peace) Perfect man everyday 20SS: Celebrity Crush? CB: Chad Michael Murray & Blake Lively 20SS: Do you have a favourite model you like to work with? CB: Just like Nikon lenses you can’t just choose one. I love all my models I work with but for some reason these two girls just “click”. They are absolutely full of energy and have a beautiful mind for creativity! Tia Naccarato and Caleigh Yaworsky are my “gems”. They have been with me through thick and thin, through my crazy ideas and successful published works in magazines, I have to say I love these girls!

20SS: Do you have any upcoming projects you’re excited about doing this year? CB: I do but they are a secret .. kidding! I am planning on submitting successful photos from fashion shoots in Toronto and Sudbury to magazines all over the world. If you want to be a part of this beautiful adventure, contact me! 20SS: Favourite local bar or restaurant? CB: Asian Cuisine - best Pad Thai ever! Fuse is my favourite bar. 20SS: How would you describe yourself in 5 words? CB: Patient, clumsy, innovative, observant and bubbly

20SS: What are some of your hobbies other than photography? CB: Canoeing, dirt biking, Dodge Ram truck obsessing, Graphic Design, studying tornadoes and planning my next trip adventures. PAGE

Ryan Benoit

Owner, The Positive Inception 20SS: What does positive inception mean to you? RB: The Positive Inception is built on a foundation of love, creativity, dreams, teamwork, perseverance and positivity. With that being said, it is always important to try and bring out the positive in every situation. On a day-to-day basis, some people forget about the simple things in life. People become so corrupt with a daily routine; people sometimes forget who they are. It is extremely important to always be true to yourself and be true to others. The Positive Inception is what you make of it; it is your start, your beginning. Those who are lazy, pick up the remains of those who hustle. Follow your dreams, and you will get everything you want!! 20SS: What and who inspired you to start a clothing line? RB: There is a tremendous amount of inspiration in the creation of The Positive inception. For starters, I just want to make a positive impact on the world and the people around me. My family and friends are huge supporters and they are a huge inspiration for the brand. In life, it is truly important to surround yourself with people that make you happy, people that love you and care about you. Furthermore, when this brand was created, I had in mind to help as many people as I can. Whether it’s raising money for charity (one dollar of every shirt will go to the Easter Seals foundation for kids with disabilities), or just having a positive impact on people.

20SS: Living with a disability is a big aspect of your positive message for your design, can you tell us a bit about how you got where you are today? RB: Living with a disability, I always had to learn how to do things differently and adapt to certain situations for it to be in my best interest, for it to be beneficial for myself. It takes me a lot longer than most people to do many things, and throughout the years I have adapted and conquered many obstacles. When living with a disability, you have to learn to be patient, optimistic and have a certain drive to succeed. I always try to have a positive attitude on things and always try to take the best out of every situation. I truly believe that having a disability, is more of an ability for myself, it has made me the person I am today and made me develop a positive attitude. Even though I have cerebral palsy, it doesn’t stop me from doing very much. I am a very positive, self-driven, and independent person. I believe I am also very determined. When I put my mind to something, I always try to achieve my goals. I put 110% in everything I do. 20SS: What team and sport is your favourite? RB: I am a huge hockey fan, with that being said, on a professional level I really like Pittsburgh, Columbus, Buffalo and Los Angeles. As for amateur sports, I would have to say my favorite teams are the Laurentian University Lacrosse club as well as the Laurentian University varsity men’s hockey team.

20SS: Were you always interested in the fashion industry? RB: Yes, ever since I can remember, I have always been interested in fashion and clothes in general. I have always wanted to have my own clothing line, it has always been kind of a dream of mine and last summer I decided to make my dream a reality and start the Positive Inception.

20SS: What accomplishments are you most proud of? RB: Getting accepted into the Sports Administration program, going through the program, struggling and persevering, working hard and never failing a class (so far) is something that I am really happy about. Starting a clothing line is something that is pretty special for me as well.

20SS: Tell us about your collection and upcoming projects RB: Currently, the Positive Inception has four men’s T-shirts as well as four women’s T-shirts. The brand also has hoodies. As for upcoming projects, I’m hoping to come out with a couple new T-shirt designs in a month or two. I would also like to make hoodies in various colours and I am thinking about getting Positive Inception snapback hats.

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

20SS: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BMX; HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE SPORT? RE: My brother and his friends rode mountain bikes when I was younger. They always had pictures and videos of them riding these jumps they’d make. I always thought it looked like so much fun so I picked up a mountain bike and I’d tag along. Eventually when the skate park in Minnow Lake was built I went to check it out. I saw all these guys doing all sorts of tricks and grinds. I went out a month later and picked up a BMX and never looked back. 20SS: WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT BMX? RE: I love the freedom. You have no one telling you what to do or where to ride. I can go out and ride the best skate park in the world or a parking lot with a couple of curbs and still have the best of times. 20SS: WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE FACED IN BMX? HOW HAVE YOU OVERCOME IT? RE: Right now I’d have to say just trying to stay motivated to ride and make progress. The BMX scene in Sudbury is slowly fading. A lot of the friends I used to ride with all the time are starting to ride less; some don’t ride at all anymore. Riding with friends fuels progression. Just focusing on staying positive when riding and always-trying new things keeps me going. 20SS: WHAT DO YOU FEEL HAS CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR SUCCESS AS AN ATHLETE? RE: I feel like my passion for the sport and progression is why I’ve been so successful. Being able to film and look back on what I’ve done in the past and see the improvements I’ve made has also helped. Overall there is no better feeling than finally pulling a trick you’ve wanted to do or have been working on for hours.
