Ask Aunt Zelda

/Zelda Von Schnape

@AuntZeldasDirtyBingo Hello my wonderful, slippery sex sultans! Aunty Zelda here with a tale of deception, heartbreak and inspiration. I was checking my e-mails at askauntzelda@gmail.com when I came across this gem. Fazil_Shamshad writes.

Dear Aunt Zelda, I have been talking to this girl who sounds too good to be true. We have awesome conversations where I drop my guard and let this person know me. I am not afraid to be honest, goofy or fragile when speaking with this person. Plans to hang out are made and then inexplicably broken. A photo that she sends me also happens to be featured on the Chive website. I start asking questions. She makes me feel like I am the crazy person. When I start to get too close to the truth, her and her friend (the only person I have met in real life who corroborates the existence of my dream girl) mysteriously disappears on Facebook and her phone number is now dead. The inescapable conclusion I now reach is that I have been “catfished”. Someone created a false identity to deceive me. This deception made me believe in a fallacy. It also made me re-examine what I want out of a relationship and recognize the self defence mechanisms I already have that often impedes a true and pure connection. I had a lot of walls up but this person made me want to drop them. The one positive thing I can take away from this experience is that despite their deception, I still don’t want to put those walls back up and I want to be nothing but 100% honest with the next REAL person who wants to be honest with me. Despite a long string of sitcom-like romantic misadventures culminating in the ultimate sad sack “I am falling for an imaginary person” situation I find myself in, I am still an optimist and prefer to believe in the good qualities of people. I know that I have wronged people in the past and I know that there have been times where I deserved whatever relationship karma was coming my way but I feel like I have atoned for my sins and this is just getting absurd now. I once thought that there was a group of evil ex-girlfriends conspiring against me. My point is despite all of this, I weirdly appreciate the crazy catfish for narrowing my focus to laser beam precision because I know what I deserve and it is better than all of the nutty bullshit people do to each other. Thanks for the laughs and lube Aunt Zelda! Dear Fazil (and anyone else who has been burned), People do crazy things when they are lonely and they often forget about anyone’s feelings but their own. This person committed emotional vandalism on your heart and I am sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like you came out stronger. I know so many people who have been deceived in relationships and it always hurts, no matter what the circumstances. That is why so many people bring all the bullshit baggage from previous relationships into new ones. I love your positive outlook on the situation and don’t you EVER let the past dictate how you react to your present. For instance, it isn’t fair if you stop the person trying to go down on you just because the last person performed like an epileptic beaver. Keep those walls down to experience life and never let anyone become your awesome. Share the awesome, the truth and the orgasms with them. Don’t share crabs, needles or lies with them. That is all for this week my lovely labia lilies and testicle tigers. Please send me your questions and stories to askauntzelda@gmail.com. Love Zelda!

1. Pair a maxi skirt with a cropped, chunky-knit sweater for a bohogrunge feel. Adding flat ankle boots create a look that is functional for fall. 2. Opt for over-the-knee socks with a circle skirt for a cute and unique look. Throw on an over-sized knitted cardigan and you’re ready for those early morning lectures! 3. Swap out your black tights for a brightly coloured pair! Choose an accent colour to make the whole look pop. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colours and prints! Here we added some great Fall accessories like an oversized handbag and statement necklace.

Back to School; Tips & Trends Sadly summers over, and its time to get serious again (at least some what). So just for you I have put together an everyday “Back to School” makeup look that is super easy and only takes about 10 minutes tops! Lets try to make those early mornings just a little bit easier and more time efficient. After you have already washed your face, try this out…

If you’re not sure which products to use I do suggest Quo found in Shoppers Drug mart. They have absolutely everything you need and more for these quick and easy tips. 1. Whip out your CC cream or chosen tinted moisturizer and evenly apply it to your face and neck. 2. Concealer; use two shades lighter than your skin tone. Apply to the inner corner of your eye and right on top of those unwanted greyish/black bags Blend into tinted moisturizer. 3. Grab your pressed powder (either pigmented or translucent) and a powder brush. Now apply on top of your concealer and your T zone, which is your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and your chin. Make sure to blend out around these areas. 4. Apply a matte pink blush to the apples of your cheeks blending towards your hairline. I strongly suggest using Quo “Mineral Matters Blush” in shades Pink Petal, Whisper Dawn or Peach Blossom. 5. Apply a shimmery bronzer (Quo Mosaic Shimmer Bronzer) just below the blush, blending up above your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, chin and neck. 6. Using my last months article, “Your Brow Cheat Sheet”, lightly fill in your brows, bush up the way the hair grows to set. Try out Quo’s 3 in 1 Brow pencil. It really is amazing and super easy! 7. Apply mascara to both top and bottom lashes. 8. Grab your favorite lip gloss, (the basic Quo gloss in colours: Petal, Hush, Dreamy and Pout) apply and VOILA! Done.

Fall Makeup Trends: Back to School Beauty 1. No Makeup – Makeup Look: Foundation should never look like a caked on clay mask, this season its all about showing off your natural beauty. For that flawless skin appearance, toss your old foundation brush for an easy to use egg shaped Beauty Blender sponge. It will blend your foundation, CC cream and concealer seamlessly.

2. CC Cream: I know I know, there is already a BB cream and that was amazing but now it’s all about the CC and with good reason of course. So toss out the old and get with the new. This new and improved tinted moisturizer is also a “Colour Correcting” cream that is even sheerer than BB creams and foundation! It also contains active skin care ingredients and SPF to keep you and your skin happy and healthy.

3. Matte Nail Polish & Top Coat: This was everywhere in the fall fashion shows, if that’s any indication you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot less shine this season. Pick up a matte topcoat and transform your regular existing nail polish colours into one of the latest trends.

CAGE CALL SHOWCASES LOCAL HIP-HOP TALENT Can’t get enough live hip-hop action? Cage Call has got you covered. We caught up with Max Merrifield aka Silvertongue and got the details. 20SS: Tell us about Cage Call. MM: This is a new monthly series of hip-hop shows myself (Silvertongue) and Michael Fraser O’Brien (of Kill The Autocrat) have begun in order to build the local hip hop scene and connect it with the rest of the scenes across Canada. Each show has it’s own theme and character. Examples include a space theme and a beach party theme for recent shows. We’ve had a great diversity of artists come through so far including ourselves and Toronto hip-hop veteran Mindbender; rising underground stars Philly Moves from Ottawa/Toronto; B. Rich of the viral video sensation ‘Out for a Rip’; and most recently one of Canada’s hardest working hip-hop artists iLLvibe.

We’ve given some local MCs their first official bar gigs, and are giving people a chance to explore their art form in a quality music venue. We always try to feature different local acts on each show, and so far have had great local artists come through such as Streetwise, K. Karma, Johnny B, DJ Willis, DJ Noj Garcia and more. 20SS: What can we expect from future events? MM: At the time of this interview we don’t have our September act booked, however I will say that we have something very unique in the works. As we hoped, these events are helping us establish connections with the scenes in other parts of Canada, so we are getting all kinds of inquiries for shows from alot of really great artists. Keep updated by hitting up the Cage Call Facebook page. 20SS: How can we get involved? MM: Come out and support these diversely talented artists! MCs and DJs wanting to get on should hit us up on Facebook. Check the page ‘Cage Call: Underground Hip-Hop’ or email me at Max.Merrifield@gmail.com 20SS: Where do we more information on upcoming events?

Favourite part of what you do? Meet with new people and introduce them to our famous ribs and shots. Upcoming events at your work? We have events every night. You can come out Tuesday and celebrate our half price wings, or Wednesday 5 dollar burgers and 5 dollar pints, its always a great a time! Something Interesting that people don’t know about you? I’ve always wanted to be an army brat, as crazy as that sounds, I’ve been thinking on and on about it, I can’t get over the fact that I could represent our country. Craziest thing that has ever happened to you while working. The craziest thing that’s ever happened to me while working would be finding my exact twin. I started working at St.Louis and this girl looked identical to me. We began speaking and realized we’ve lived in the same places, around the same times, and actually dated some of the same people. That’s the awkward part, but hey, she’s great and we’re great friends now! When you aren’t working, what can you be found doing? When I’m not working, you can find me being spontaneous in everything I do. I’ll generally pick up some stuff and go camping, no matter the circumstances.

Ch e l s e e Tay lor 20SS: What inspired you to get into underwater photography? CB: As a kid I always enjoyed swimming and I also worked at the YMCA as a Lifeguard for four years, so mixing my favourite sport of swimming + water + photography… it just seemed like the perfect mix.

20SS: Is it difficult to pose underwater? CB: Yes, underwater modelling isn’t as easy as it seems. Sure the pictures turn out beautiful, but there is a lot of work put into it. It’s all about the breathing techniques, lung capacity, keeping the eyes open and to make sure you don’t look like a drowning trapped person.

20SS: Is it expensive to get into? CB: YES, I never really knew what I was getting into. I had the idea and wanted to pursue it, but never really looked into it. I am the type of person to just go for it. So unless you have $3000 in your pocket, it’s an expensive area of photography to get into. 20SS: What made you want to be the first underwater photographer in Sudbury? CB: I am always a go getter especially when it comes to photography, I wanted to do something that not many photographers can offer. I wanted to push my limits, abilities and creativity to another level. Let me just say, it is not as easy as it sounds. 20SS: What is your go to underwater makeup? • Sephora waterproof eyeshadows and eyeliner •

Rimmel London waterproof eyeliners, lipsticks and make- up remover

20SS: What is the difference between above water and underwater photography? CB: There is a great amount of difference. I would 100% agree that lighting and mobility when taking pictures above water is so much easier. It’s all about the timing, posing, depth of water and lighting situations. Underwater photography is a challenge in it’s own. 20SS: Do the costumes or dresses get ruined from the pool? CB: Surprisingly, No! I have had girls with wedding dresses, prom dresses. Men with jeans, you name it. It does not get ruined nor faded. I have actually had some prom dresses turn out cleaner than they were before they went in water! 20SS: Have you had any interest from outside of Sudbury? CB: Yes, I have received bookings from Toronto, St. Catherine’s, Niagara Falls, Wawa, North Bay, places in the states. It’s crazy how popular underwater photography is.

• NYC waterproof Mascara • Essence waterproof Mascara 20SS: Is your camera waterproof? CB: No, the camera is protected by a waterproof DSLR housing. 20SS: What equipment do you use? CB: I use a Ikelite housing underwater for the Nikon D300 body, Nikkor 12-24mm and Tokina 10-17mm lens for the wide angle and fish eye effect. I only use one underwater strobe (if needed) and sometime bring my flash underwater in a underwater casing. Usually lighting can be decent, but is also very touchy. It all depends on the lighting situation. 20SS: What is the models experience like? CB: Using one word - Interesting. page

14

Model: Tia Naccarato

The Spotlight www.20somethingsudbury.ca

Photo g ra ph y 20SS: Explain the process in a few sentences CB: It all starts with major brain storming, you have to keep that one idea in your head that will sum up the shoot. Than it comes time for costume, waterproof makeup, camera preparing in it’s housing, prop gathering/set up and shooting time. I always make sure the models have a great amount of rest breaks in between sets, if not it becomes tiresome and gets harder and harder to preform.

Models comments: Kagney Schurm - Burlington, Toronto: What an experience. I’ve never done something so HARD in my modelling career. Seeing the results I am truly

20SS: Is this your preferred type of photography?

mesmerized, they are so beautiful and elegant... I will definitely be booking

CB: Of course it is, your mind can be so free underwater. The pictures turn out different every time and there are so many options to explore.

again! Must keep practicing underwater faces in posing for the next one.

Tia Naccarato - Sudbury, Ontario: Chelsee is honestly such a fun photographer to work with she’s awesome at what she does :) I’m so excited to book more underwater shoots with this talented photographer and I encourage everyone to do shoots with her, you will be amazed. It’s also amazing to see how the underwater makeup I do for her models turns out in the final product.

Very

talented

underwater photographer and great at what she does.

Hannah Simard - Wawa, Ontario: My experience shooting underwater with Chelsee Taylor was a great one. I’ve wanted to do an underwater photo shoot for so long and I was so lucky to be offered the opportunity by such a talented photographer. In fact, I was so excited at the opportunity that I planned a day tip to Sudbury from Wawa ON in

order to do the photo-shoot ASAP. As for

the

behind-the-scenes

moments,

swimming in the mermaid-cut dress was very hard. It was nearly impossible to tread water in it, so I was swimming to the sides of the pool constantly to catch breaths between shots. We definitely got some sick shots in spite of my swimming problems and I am so thankful to have been a part of Chelsee Taylor’s underwater project. page

20SS: What were your dreams as a child? AR: I always wanted to help people and I knew this from a young age, I also had another side of me which loved to entertain people but I was always kind of shy. So I went to University to become a Social Worker and in the past couple of years (now that I am more confident) have become a model. 20SS: What is your favourite place to travel? AR: My favourite country is in the West Indies called Grenada and I have been travelling there since I was very young. The people, food and island are amazingly beautiful which keeps me coming back almost every year. 20SS: Is there something you are really excited about doing this year or have done this year? AR: Well while on a modelling trip to Cancun for the International Bikini Model Search last year I met the man of my dreams. We actually got engaged in Grenada recently and will be tying the knot in August 2014. I can not wait to spend the rest of my life with him as he is the best thing to ever walk into my life. On the business side of things I will be looking forward to various publications including FHM and Maxim. 20SS: What are your hobbies? AR: I really enjoy boating on weekends and I also do a lot of rollerblading. Other activities I love are surfing, hiking, skiing and water skiing. But my main passion in life is to travel, I literally want to see the world or at least half of it! 20SS: Favourite local bar or restaurant? AR: I love Respect is Burning! 20SS: Why did this type of work interest you and how did you get started? What jobs and experience have led you to be a successful model? AR: I started with doing a few shoots then worked at a couple of car shows until the drama and rumours started. Then my biggest break was with the Toronto Sun where I became the Sunshine girl twice, worked at the Toronto Indy as a Grid girl and then had the opportunity to become Miss September for the Sunshine girl calendar sold across Canada. In terms of publications, working with IBMS gave me exposure and allowed me to work with amazing photographers from all over the world to build my portfolio, and get publications. Now I am sponsored by Wetpeach, SNSbikinis, Concolour, Cexce bikinis to name a few 20SS: What advice would you give to other aspiring models?

Amandy Rose Ranger model

AR: Number one always be yourself, never let others bring you down and do not become persuaded to do things you do not feel comfortable doing. It’s also important to remember that education should come first and modelling second. Always focus on goals but stay humble and understand that things you do in your career modelling now could affect your future elsewhere. My example is and I use this one often, Nude modelling. Had I engaged in this genre of modelling I would not have the amazing career I do now as a lot of employers do background checks. I have had the opportunity to do Playboy but despite the fact that I would become more popular I would loose my self respect, possibly my job and believe it or not they don’t pay you!! 20SS: Where do you see yourself in the next five years? AR: Hopefully living elsewhere but still working with the mental health population. But most importantly I will be using some of the popularity I have gained through modelling to raise money and travel to build homes for Habitat for Humanity instead of using this money to travel for modelling. It is time to give back 20SS: What is your favourite type of food? AR: Poutine and sushi facebook.com/MissAmandyRose?ref=hl Twitter: amandaranger www.snsbikinis.com/ www.wetpeachswimwear.com/Official-Models.php#.U8aDMfldVyU

Chezza Miller hip hop artist 20SS: Who are your musical influences? CM: Growing up my musical influences varied from Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Guns N Roses and dancehall artist Spragga Benz. 20SS: Is there an event or person your collaborating with this year that you’re really excited about? CM: Definitely. My brother Ronin and I are finally dropping our album that we’ve been promoting for the past year. Once that drops, the tour we build off of that will be the icing on the cake. 20SS: What is your favourite track on your latest album? CM: Sheeesh, that’s hard but I would have to say, “Never Sleep Again”. That one is just so musical and encompasses how I feel about what I’m doing in music at the moment. 20SS: Where do you see yourself in five years? CM: Running the biggest Hip Hop record label in the North, with at least three Northern Ontario artists signed to me, as well as putting out my own music. 20SS: How long have you been performing for? CM: Since 2004 - my first opportunity was to open for Method Man and the Ying Yang Twins.

20SS: Which artist would you love to open for and who was the biggest artist you have opened for? CM: would love to open for 50 Cent, that would be great. The biggest artist we’ve opened for is ONYX. I have opened for Choclair, D-12, Serani, D-Sisive, JD Era and others, but ONYX would have to be the biggest at this point. 20SS: What genre of music do you consider yourself to be? CM: That’s a hard one, I don’t really consider myself to be in any genre. I call myself an artist, so in that way, whatever I feel like doing, I can do. But if I really have to pick one, then I’d say Hip Hop due to 70% of my music being Hip Hop influenced. 20SS: What accomplishments are you most proud of? CM: Being able to create my own tours without any big headliners and starting up my label, IceBurgh Society Entertainment. 20SS: If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be? CM: I would want to perform in the UK. I feel my music would fit and mesh best over there compared to over here. IceBurghSociety.com Instagram/Twitter: @yowdischezza

20SS: Is anyone in your family an artist?

facebook.com/CheZZaBigNickel

CM: Both my brothers are artists. Ronin, my younger brother, is my partner in the group Blaq Roche, and my older brother Dwight is a producer.

blog! * waves of change It’s that time of year again. Except this year, Labour Day seems really early and we start school really early and everyone is kind of really pissed about it. Regardless, magic is in the air! Even if you don’t like school at all, there’s something thrilling about September and the start of a new school year. My main concern is always the first-week-of-classes wardrobe, but I’m also excited to find out what people did over the summer (new job, new haircut, new lease on life), what profs I will have (good, better, best), and how many cute boys will be in my elected classes (cute, cuter, cutie-est). A new school year is a giant wave of change, and I’m lying on the beach waiting for it to drag me out to at least a C+. If you’re like me you’ve been riding that wave on a beautifully crafted surfboart I like to call “The Scholarship” and your life rules (besides the fact that you gotta keep them 80s). If you’re not like me, you are far more in tune with reality because you actually know how to swim and you do so while simultaneously working a part time job. Either way, the bus that took us to this beach has the word STRUGGLE plastered on the side of it, and has ditched us here without a paddle. I’m now thinking of a beautiful movie montage where teamwork among all beach-goers/students is embraced as we work together despite our differences in order to succeed while also having a ballin’ time and “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical is playing in the background…but I think you get the idea.

For me, the New Year doesn’t start in January. Nobody feels fresh and ready to make a positive change in their life when it’s -25°c and your suede booties just died in slush puddle. No, the New Year starts in September (I know, how very Vogue of me (barf)). September is a time for change, just ask the leaves. Our surroundings change, our routine changes, so heck, we might as well go with it right? Change your style, make some new friends, decide that you hate your program and start a new one! Now is the time to allow ourselves to be moulded into something new. Hey! Like a sandcastle on the beach perhaps… I’m really feeling this analogy. So I guess school is like a beach! We’re all there for our own reasons, with the academic go-getters out in the water, the academic dabblers dipping their toes in every once in a while, and the slackers tanning their butt cheeks up on a hill. But whether we’re getting better at swimming, meeting new people, or working on our tan, we’re there to change, and we should embrace those changes with excitement and determination, or something like that. So what if the giant flaw in my point is that almost everyone would rather be at a beach than at school. Either way, everyone is basically naked. page
