orn in Madrid, Vanesa Coloma began her studies at eight years of age at the Conservatory of Madrid, where she specialized in flamenco, working under master artists such as María Magdalena, El Güito, La China, and Ciro. Coloma has appeared as a soloist in Souvenir by Belén Maya, Tauro by Manuel Liñán, Camino Flamenco by Alfonso Losa, 4 Adjetivos and Equilibrio Flamenco by Jesús Carmona, and 5 Mujeres al Borde de una Bata de Cola by Yolanda Heredia. Coloma has performed and taught in various festivals around the world, including the Bienal de Sevilla, Festival de Jerez, and Festival de Nimes. She is doubtless one of the most important artists of her generation.

Coloma won the 2008 Premio Nacional de la Perla de Cádiz for her alegrías, and presented her concert, Flamenklórica, at the 2015 Certamen de Danza Española y Flamenco in Madrid. Thanks to its great critical acceptance, the show formed part of the 2016 Festival Flamenco de Madrid, the Festival Tío de la Juliana, the Corral del Carbón, and Otoños Flamencos. In 2017, Coloma was a semifinalist at the Concurso Internacional at the Festival Cante de Las Minas. Currently, she combines her work as a guest artist in various dance companies with performances at prestigious tablaos such as El Carmen, Las Carboneras, Villarosa, and Casa Patas.

SYNOPSIS I still cannot describe in words what I felt as a child when I heard Camarón de la Isla sing “tirititando de frío”; or the new doors that Morente opened in my mind with Omega; or as an adult, how my tears fell when Paco de Lucía passed... These memories and experiences have led me to create this small tribute to those Otros Genios (Other Geniuses) that have fed and influenced my growth and expression directly and indirectly throughout my entire artistic career. Javier Latorre, Tío Borrico, El Chocolate, Ray Heredia, Fernando de la Morena, Vicente Amigo, and Peret compose seven of the eight scenes of the show. The eighth is reserved for a friend who will take the stage with us, without even knowing it... will he or she be one of those “other geniuses” for the generations of flamenco to come? 8 31 st FESTIVAL FLAMENCO

edro Córdoba is renowned in the flamenco world for both his teaching and performing. At an early age, he trained intensively in Classical Ballet, Bolera, Clásico Español, Spanish Regional, and Contemporary Dance in the school of Pastora Martos. Later, Córdoba received a degree and professional license from the Instituto de Teatro, certifying him as a professional Spanish Dancer. At the same time, Córdoba studied flamenco under artists such as La Tani, Manuel Nuñez, Antonio Canales, and Javier Latorre, among others.

Córdoba collaborated with the great cantaor Enrique Morente in dance representations of Morente’s album Omega, choreographed by Latorre. Córdoba has collaborated with many companies and artists in Spain, including the Compañia Andaluza de Danza, the Somorrostro Company, Eva Yerbabuena, Joaquín Grilo, “Chicuelo,” Miguel Poveda, and “Duquende.” In addition to these collaborations, Córdoba performs in the most prestigious tablaos in Spain, including Los Gallos, Las Carboneras, El Cordobes, Los Tarantos, El Carmen, Casa Patas, and Corral de La Morería.

Javier Latorre took his first steps in the dance world at the age of four. He catapulted into the Baile Nacional de España in 1979 as a soloist, working with principal ballet dancer Maria de Ávila and director Antonio Gades. One of the most prolific choreographers in flamenco, Latorre has created over 100 evening-length works. He has choreographed for Antonio Canales, Enrique Morente, the Ballet Nacional de España, the Compañía Andaluza de Danza, and Eva Yerbabuena. Latorre’s latest productions, El Duende y El Reloj and La Celestina, were both presented in the Festival de Jerez.
Gema Moneo began her studies at the age of five, under Manuela Carpio and Ana María López. Gema has studied with Eva Yerbabuena, Belén Maya, Rafaela Carrasco, Rocío Molina, Mercedes Ruiz, Manuel Liñan, Marco Flores, Alfonso Losa, and Farruquito. Moneo debuted her first show Sangre y Territorio in 2015 at the Festival de Jerez. She won this year’s Premio Artista Revelación at the Festival de Jerez.

SYNOPSIS Everything starts with silence and ends with silence... Make silence a space of control to feel safe, and use silence as a language. Make the fragile glass of a bottle as strong as the wood of the oak barrel where that wine was grown to maturity and to have its own aroma and flavor. For a movement to have beauty, it is necessary to breathe, to pause... for something to mature, calm and the passing of years are necessary. Spaces in time are full of complacent silence, mockery, absence, compliance, necessity, choice, obligation... Silence is full of fragility, strength, or growth where it finds its place in our souls. WHY OAK? They are millenarians and silent witnesses, always remaining firm and strong in the face of adversities and caprices of earth and life, always maintaining their beauty, majesty, freedom, strength, and shelter for others. More and more branches are added to their trunks, until they become old and silent trees full of beauty, observing everything that happens around them over the years.

orn in Madrid in 1983, Guadalupe Torres definitively adds value to the current flamenco panorama. She is qualified in Danza Española and flamenco by the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza in Madrid. Important masters of flamenco have contributed to her artistic development. Her career began at the Compañía Andaluza de Danza in Sevilla. She went on to perform in the companies of María Pagés, Manuel Liñán, and Marco Flores in De Flamencas (prize for best show, Festival de Jerez). Guadalupe then embarked on solo projects with her own company, including the show Acuerdate Cuando Entonces, shown at festivals in Holland; Helsinki,
Finland; and the Festival de Jerez in Spain. Her latest work, Roble, has been greatly acclaimed and has debuted in Paris, Mexico, Milan, Moscow, Madrid, and Fuenlabrada. Guadalupe’s versatility and freshness inspire flamenco artists of different generations to include her in collaborations. She has been recognized by the Choreography Competition of Madrid for best choreography for A miedos, Colores, De Los Rincones, and La Rosa de Gerineldo. Guadalupe performs in tablaos such as Las Carboneras, Villa Rosa, Corral de la Morería, Casa Patas, El Arenal, and El Cordobés. She is regularly invited as a guest teacher and choreographer for the Madrid Higher Conservatory of Dance and teaches all over the world.

JOSÉ MALDONADO José Maldonado is a versatile dancer. From the beginning of his training, he adopted different styles, such as contemporary Spanish dance and more traditional flamenco. Throughout his career he has worked with master artists Javier Latorre, Antonio Canales, María Pagés, Rafaela Carrasco, Rocío Molina, Blanca Li, Carmen Cortés, El Güito, Marco Flores, Belén López, Rojas and Rodríguez, and Carlos Chamorro, among others. He dances in renowned tablaos such as El Cordobés, Casa Patas, and Corral de la Morería. In 2013, he received the prize for best choreography of solo dance and the Suma Flamenca award in the well-known Spanish and Flamenco Dance Contest in Madrid. He has also developed his work as an artist in the field of painting, showing various exhibitions inspired by the universe of flamenco. José Maldonado has currently formed a company around his first solo work, Andrea.

SYNOPSIS With all that baggage, I come to this show that is not a conclusion, but a starting point. I want to investigate, and investigate through a series of passages or sequences that represent different concerns in my life. I want to get to the stage with all the aplomb of the lived thing—but with the absolute necessity to advance. I want to throw myself into the void every second. I want to unlearn in order to grow. I want to improvise about what I know... and not know what will happen. I want to think that, with our lights and our shadows, in addition to past we are present. Sequence is pure process. We are life itself.

or his personality, contribution to the new language of flamenco dance, and mastery, Alfonso Losa is recognized as one of the great talents of the current generation. As a child, he studied under Rafael de Córdoba and later, at the Real Conservatorio de Danza. He went on to refine his skills with great masters such as El Guïto, Manolete, La China, Antonio Canales, and Javier Latorre. Many distinguished flamencos regularly invite Losa to be a guest artist, including Adrián Galia, Ricardo Franco, Manuela Carrasco, Rubem Dantas, Enrique de Melchor, La Susi, Gerardo Núñez, Niño Josele, Montse Cortés, Guadiana, and Tomatito. Losa also collaborated with the late singer Enrique Morente on his albums Omega and Pablo de Málaga. Losa has been awarded the Premio Nacional de Cordoba and the Premio El Desplante at the Festival Internacional de las Minas. In 2011, he choreographed the super-production Magnificus for Austrian director André Heller. Over the next two years, he debuted his shows Camino Flamenco and Tendencias Flamenco a Tres, and collaborated in Carmen la Memoria with Farruquito, José Maya, Juan de Juan, Farru, Pastora

Galván, and Remedios Amaya. His production Bailaores premiered in the 2014 Festival de Jerez. This same year, Farruquito invited him to be a guest artist in the show Improvisao. Losa also created and directed the festival Veranos Flamencos en Amor de Dios with Maria Juncal. Losa’s tireless touring did not prevent him from participating in Carlos Saura’s Flamenco Hoy. In 2017, he premiered the show Senti2 with La Lupi in Tokyo. Alfonso Losa premiered con-secuenciA at the Festival de Jerez 2018. This work is another leap in Losa’s flamenco expression. Supported by the scenic work of director Florencio Campo, Losa recapitulates what he has learned to embark on a new experience: research in improvisation and in the management of stage energy, in real time—a challenge that very few artists can face.

For this, they feed on the meeting of peninsular and American music, through the depth of JosÊ Almarcha’s guitar and the electronic music of The Lab. Today, artistic testimonies show how root culture is infected by new worlds when the trip and the adventure propitiate their meeting. orn in Madrid in 1983, Sara Calero graduated with honors from the Conservatorio de Madrid in 2002. At 17, she made her solo debut with maestro José Granero at the Festival de Jerez. Since then, her work as a soloist and principal dancer has developed in companies such as the company of Antonio Márquez and the Ballet Nacional de España, where she worked with Fernando Romero, Antonio Canales, El Nuevo Ballet Español, and José Antonio.

SYNOPSIS Since Gypsies appeared in European culture, the unearthly has followed. Fortune-telling, for example, has been one of their most immediate economic resources; at that moment, magic and Gypsy were born together. Before dju-dju—or voodoo—was a direct descendant of the colonial exploitation in Central Africa or the Caribbean, before these practices embodied fear of the unknown, Gypsies embodied that curse. Needless to say, Gypsies took those fears to flamenco. The magical has left us a vision of what is still an element in the process of making flamenco. And that swampy world is where Isabel Bayón and Israel Galván are going to get lost. Troubling feelings, magic, superstition, jinxes, fixations, words that mustn’t be said, amulets, magical rituals, and everyday rituals. That which you cannot touch with your hands. We are trying to know why we tighten our stomachs when we have a bad feeling, why we swear impetuously when faced with a challenge, why we carry little coins and stones in our pockets as if our luck depended on them; the electricity that runs through our body when we are startled. SYNOPSIS Flamenco is an art of tradition, which in many families passes from parents to children as something natural, something that, as a child, seems like a game. As time passes, it becomes an indispensable and essential part of life. Throughout history, there have been many traditional families who are still responsible for defending and preserving their tradition in flamenco. One of those is the De Los Reyes family. The De Los Reyes family is a gypsy family who defend their traditional dance. The assertion of this show is none other than simply that of flamenco dance. This show does not focus its attention on telling a story, but rather on showcasing flamenco through three different generations. The essence of masters such as Farruco, Mario Maya, and Pepe Ríos has been transferred to the patriarch of the family, Juan De Los Reyes, and has retained its purity through his daughters, Saray De Los Reyes and Lole De Los Reyes. In this show, audiences will enjoy the art of these generations, and see how, despite the passage of time, traditional flamenco has no expiration date. It is like wine—the older it is, the better. This show allows the viewer a unique way of understanding dance through three different artists who share the same blood. From the youth of Lole, a symbol of flamenco of yesteryear; to the mastery of Juan; to Saray, who has bloomed from a young artist full of promise into a true flamenca.

J
uan De Los Reyes was born in Sevilla in 1965. He began to experience flamenco as a child, learning his first steps with maestro Pepe Ríos. At age 11, Juan toured Andalucía with Juanito Valderrama’s company. He studied and perfected his art with master teacher Antonio Montoya Flores “Farruco,” who invited him to perform in numerous festivals and in the movie Bodas de Gloria with the young “Farruquito,” among other artists. He has worked in many tablaos, including Los Gallos, La Trocha, El Palacio Andaluz, El Cordobés, Tablao de Carmen, and Los Tarantos. He also danced in Mario Maya’s company, participating in shows such as ¡Ay Jondo!, El Amargo, El Réquiem, Tres Movimientos, Flamenco, and El Amor Brujo. Juan has traveled around the world to perform and teach, and is considered one of the great masters of gypsy flamenco dance. He is dedicated to teaching in his academy, Estudio Flamenco De Los Reyes.

orn in Sevilla in 1989 into a gypsy flamenco family, Saray started studying at the age of five under her father, Juan. She studied with “La Farruca,” who invited her to dance in the show Gitanas at the age of 16, and she went on to participate in important festivals such as the XXV Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Sevilla and the Festival de Jerez. In these festivals, she shared the stage with figures such as Angelita Vargas, Carmelilla Montoya, Pilar “La Faraona,” Juana la del Revuelo, and “La Farruca,” among others. Saray is a dancer characterized by her rooted, gypsy-styled dance. Saray has worked in theaters and prestigious tablaos such as De Los Gallos, La Casa de la Memoria de Sevilla, El Cordobés, Tablao de Carmen, and Casa Patas. In 2012, she premiered her own show, La Familia De Los Reyes, at the Festival Arte Flamenco Mont de Marsan, alongside her father Juan and sister Lole. She has won several awards, including the first prize “Carmen Ledesma” at the Peña Torres Macarena, the 2006 First Prize in Dance in the Peñas de Sevilla Federation, and the 2010 “Carmen Amaya” award in the First Carmen Amaya Festival in Barcelona.
LOLE DE LOS REYES
L
ole De Los Reyes was born in Seville in 1996. The second daughter of master artist Juan De Los Reyes, Lole showed promise at a young age. She has trained as a teacher under her father and sister, sharing flamenco with them both at home and onstage. Lole has worked at prestigious tablaos such as Los Gallos in Seville, Casa Patas in Madrid, Tablao de Carmen in Barcelona, and the Salvador Távora Theater in Seville, among others. She also was part of the well-known television program Mi Primer Ole, in which teachers like the bailaoras Matilde Coral and Lola Greco and the flamencologist Ricardo Pachón praised her artistry. In 2011, she won the First Prize of the Dance Contest in the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Art Foundation, held at the Gran Teatro de Huelva.

Nieves Casablanca began her flamenco studies with José Galván. At 11, she began to study Danza Española at the school of Matilde Coral, where she studied for ten years under masters, including Matilde and Rocío Coral, the Pericet brothers, Maestro Granero, Bety and Lola Greco, Eva La Yerbabuena, and Isabel Bayón. Since 2014, she has been teaching Danza Española at the Conservatorio de Andalucía.
Jesús Corbacho’s love for flamenco came early, singing his first Fandangos at two-and-a-half. He studied at the Fundación de Arte Flamenco Christina Heeren de Sevilla. He has accompanied and collaborated with celebrated artists such as Chano Lobato, Fosforito, Milagros Mengíbar, Rocío Molina, and Daniel Doña, among others.
José Almarcha began to play the guitar at the age of 8 in his town of Tomelloso, Spain, and began more serious study at the age of 12 under Oscar Herrero. Though he spends most of his time performing in flamenco festivals and tablaos, when he has a chance to teach, he focuses primarily on technique before moving on to artistic interpretations.

José Carrasco was born and raised in the southern Spanish city of Sevilla. He is an accomplished percussionist who has performed alongside artists such as Pepe de Lucía, Merche Esmeralda, José Antonio Rodriguez, and “El Portugués.” Carrasco is also an internationally renowned teacher.
Castilla holds the prestigious title of First Guitar at the famous El Cordobés tablao in Barcelona. There, he has worked with many notable artists, including Antonio Canales, Eva La Yerbabuena, and Rocío Molina. He is the distinguished professor of flamenco guitar at the Taller de Músicos in Barcelona. 22

Loreto De Diego is a cantaora established in Madrid. A wellrounded artist who works as a soloist at national flamenco festivals and peñas, she also works as an accompanist for baile, for which she has received widespread recognition. She has performed as a soloist at festivals such as the Festival de la Confederación de Peñas de Andalucía, Festival Flamenco Ciudad de Toledo, and the Suma Flamenca.

Juañares has collaborated with artists such as Niña Pastori, Montse Cortés, Lole, Ketama, and Tomatito, among others.

As a child, Manu was surrounded by music, and he showed a natural interest in percussion. He began studying drums, but quickly became interested in the cajón. Organist, Sevilla, Spain Dju Dju Alejandro’s piano career began in the conservatories of Sevilla, Barcelona, and, later, at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He combines artistic projects with teaching at the Professional Conservatory of Music in Jerez de la Frontera. He also plays the harpsichord, which is based on an eighteenth-century model.
MARA REY Singer, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain con-secuenciA Rey spent her early career largely in Mexico, touring theaters such as the Bellas Artes and the Coba Rubia. She has sung and danced with great flamenco figures such as Manuela Carrasco, Los Farrucos, Miguel Poveda, Duquende, and Antonio Canales. She has participated in festivals, including the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla and the Festival de Jerez.
KIKE TERRÓN Percussionist, Madrid, Spain Roble Hailing from Madrid, Enrique “Kike” Terrón is one of the most outstanding percussionists in flamenco today and a true specialist of the cajón. In spite of his young age, Terrón has studied and collaborated with great cante figures such as Carmen Linares, guitarists like J.M. Cañizares, and with the Ballet Nacionál de España. .
