HOT EL CONCEPT
The 1970s presented a new aesthetic for design, freedom of fashion, and expression in music that created cultural change. The Ace Hotel embodies the unique flare that the 70s era launched. Each space showcases a different musical artist from that decade to create a personal experience for guests.

Cabarets originated in the 1970s and were hot spot nightclubs with musical entertainment. Cabaret ‘72 is inluenced by not only the feel of a cabaret but the fashion and music style of both 70s icons Cher and Diana Ross.

The ceiling design, velvet textures, and gold detailing relect their elaborate ensembles.

Inspired by Dolly Parton’s top hit, 9 to 5, the intent of this breakfast and cocktail bar is to provide guests with a space that serves breakfast items, alcoholic beverages, and late night snacking. Various shades of pink were used to showcase Dolly’s favorite color and differentiate the two spaces.

The vibrant, solid colors within the Guest suites mirror the classic style of The Jackson 5. Velvet textures used on the pillows and bench seating at the foot of the bed mirror the same curvy patterns incorporated into their performance attire. The deep orange tone in the wood was a strong design trend used in the 1970s.

KING GUESTROOM Custom wallcovering animates the heads of the Jackson 5 and custom headboard resembles a vinyl record.

THE RESIDENCES AT
Funky furniture and a complementary color scheme invite guests at The Residences into a modern rendition of 1970s living quarters. The custom wallcovering pays homage to the vibrant prints of that decade while Eero Aarnio’s iconic bubble chair brings a groovy element to a comfy space.

TWO-BEDROOM APARTMENT Recessed ceiling with accent color adds contrast to the colored pendants with the eclectic backsplash as a compliment.

The Rooftop Bar, restaurant, and pool are inspired by the rock group, KISS. The repetitive red, white, and black was incorporated to echo the group’s typical, flamboyant, style. Guests are invited to have drinks by the pool, enjoy live music, and dine outdoors in the rock and roll themed environment.

INNER CONCEPT
Sedona, Arizona has long been known as a spiritual power center and a location of many energy vortexes. Sedona’s vortexes pull energy up from the earth, allowing humans to make a connection with the earth. INNER X’s design uses the vortex to focus the balance of the spiritual connection between humans and the earth. Materials such as wood and concrete also act as a contrast between the natural world of Sedona and the man-made space being created.

This design provides The College of Architecture, Art and Design with both unity and functionality, which will lead to improved learning and working spaces for both faculty and students. Physically bringing the programs together highlights the synergies in the college. Relationships and teaching partnerships can be fostered through collaborative spaces.

The
Dizzy Dame D CONCEPT
Getting “Dizzy with a Dame” means to be deeply in love with a woman. During the 1920s, women were ighting for their right of suffrage and paved the way for women’s rights. The metal frame is used to represent the strength and power the women of that time possessed. The gold, velvet, and fur were used to represent the beauty and charm the era encapsulated.

FRAMEWORK CONCEPT Inspired by the Chicago skyline, the Framework Lamp embodies the backbone of all construction. With its distinct use of line, shape, and space each post is meant to represent a skyscraper. Although those super structures’ framing is made up of steel, this portable lamp is made up of 100% natural wood to integrate texture and give reference to wood-based construction methods seen prior to the implementation of steel.
