Well that’s it then. All is done. Final article penned. Our last edition is out which I view with both a mixture of relief and sadness. We’ve had great fun- well most of the time- but the moment is right to say farewell and leave The News with others. Having said that, we have as yet had no concrete offer to take up the editorial reins, so is this the beginning of the end, or more positively the end of the beginning? Time will tell, but if you are that person and a trifle backward at coming forward, don’t be shy, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help with the continuity process. There are many capable individuals in the village and as such the future of The News should be secure in what has been a very rewarding project, but that’s now out of our hands. Actually, it’s not inconceivable that we could help out in a more minor role in the future in a larger editorial set up. That’s for you to decide. Discuss it among yourselves and let’s have your ideas but quickly please. Remember February should be the next edition so no pressure then! I can hear a rendition of “All I want for Christmas is my Kilworth News, My Kilworth News, My Kilworth News” as I write this. Well the December edition is with you so that’s ok, but maybe our extended Christmas wish will be granted and my good fairy godmother will sprinkle stardust among us and create a new magical journey for our endangered publication to experience long into the future. The festive season is fast approaching so I can dream can’t I? Looking back there have been some notable events in the village that we have covered. There were highs, especially for us, when we produced The News in South Africa, now that was a tough assignment! There were the Diamond Jubilee and Royal Wedding village celebrations and no one will forget when The Challenge achieved the magic million mark or the village CIC won a lottery grant to put solar panels on the school, sports club and village hall which was broadcast live on ITV. To balance that of course was the tragic passing of Claire, but her memory remains strong with the setting up of the charity The Squires Effect. We’d like to thank all of you who have expressed kind sentiments regarding The News and that has proved to be a source of considerable satisfaction to us, so much so in fact that there were times when we wavered in our original decision to relinquish our role. Then sanity prevailed! As the big day on the 25th looms, our best wishes go to you and your families for a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Many of us will join the celebrations to welcome in 2013 with renewed optimism, but in reality we all know that the journey through the year ahead will produce its difficulties with pot-holes making the route ahead hazardous just as with us in our journey with The News. But we also know that there will be great times on that amazing expedition and these hopefully will far outweigh the negative experiences, they certainly did for Jude and I. So for us, as far as The News is concerned, journey’s end has arrived but I’m sure I just felt some stardust falling onto me or was it just a dream? We’ll soon all know.

Crimestoppers has recently received a number of enquiries regarding a chain email warning people about a postal scam that could leave you £315 out of pocket. This email is a hoax and the information contained in it is not true. If you receive this information please ignore it. The email in circulation is similar to this:"Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam: A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655." PhonepayPlus, the UK premium rate telephone services regulator, is aware that a chain email about an alleged postal scam is being circulated on the internet. The email refers to the Royal Mail, Trading Standards and ICSTIS (PhonepayPlus' former name). PhonepayPlus appreciates that recipients of the email may want to find out more information about the alleged scam and has therefore issued the following statement: The chain email refers to a service (operating on 0906 661 1911) that was shut down by PhonepayPlus (then ICSTIS) in December 2005. PhonepayPlus subsequently fined the company that was operating the service, Studio Telecom (based in Belize), £10,000. The service is NO longer running and has NOT been running since December 2005. You do NOT need to contact PhonepayPlus, or the Royal Mail, about this service as it was stopped almost six years ago. If you receive a copy of the email warning you about the alleged

Mrs Jane Linzey (72) was reported missing by her carer on Tues Sept18.She is thought to have been last seen in July when she was dropped off by a taxi at the recycling area at Morrisons, Lutterworth. Mrs Linzey is described as white, 5’7” tall and of a slim build. Her usual style of clothing is a long sleeved polo top, jeans and comfortable shoes. She usually wears glasses but left these at home. She is also known to use the forenames Paulette and Elizabeth and the surnames Whatley and Jeppe. Mrs Linzey may have got on the number 84 Arriva bus from Lutterworth to Leicester at about 11.55am on Thursday July 19, if you were also a passenger on this bus or you remember seeing her please contact, see below. Mrs Linzey’s bank accounts have not been accessed since July and she has not collected her medication from her doctor which is worrying. Anyone who knows where she is or recognises her description to contact us. Even the slightest detail could help. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sergeant Gavin Drummond on 101 or Crimestoppers, which is free and anonymous, on 0800 Saying ‘no’ to cold calling doorstep traders Trading Standards Institute's strongest message yet against cold calling doorstep traders* comes as thousands of consumers’ lives continue to be blighted by doorstep crime every year.
There is only one way consumers can really stay safe from rogues in their own homes, and that is by saying ‘no’ to cold calling doorstep traders –particularly those offering home maintenance services such as roofing, guttering, gardening and work on the driveway. Consumers who need work carried out on their house should never take the word of a cold caller for it and should take their time, using their local authority's approved trader scheme to find a workman Consumers who need guidance on their consumer rights or want to report a dodgy cold caller to trading standards should call the Citizens Advice consumer service on 08454 04 05 06 – anyone feeling threatened should call the police on 999. You can report a fraud or internet crime to Action Fraud by using their online fraud reporting tool, or by speaking to their specialist fraud advisers on 0300 123 2040. Switch on to the dangers of leaving your home in darkness Light bulb-shaped leaflets are being put through the doors of homes left in darkness as part of a police campaign to tackle burglary during the winter months.The leaflet says: ‘No lights on!! If we think no one is home, so could burglars.’ Police Community Support Officers and Police Volunteers will be giving out the leaflets from Sunday 27th October 2012, when the clocks go back.They are an eye catching way of reminding people to leave a light on when they go out during winter evenings or use a light timer which switches lights on when it begins to get dark. The leaflets are part of Operation Dynamo – a Force wide campaign to tackle burglary. House burglaries across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are at a thirteen year low but year to date figures are showing a small increase of 8% which is 160 offences more than this time last year. The dark evenings and nights help burglars because they can easily see which houses are empty. We’d like people to think about using light timers or leaving lights on when they are out to deter burglars from targeting their property. The timers don’t cost much to buy but could save a great deal of heart-ache.
Page 3 PRESS RELEASES Removal of Bring Sites. With the introduction of the new three bin waste and recycling system across
Harborough District are now able to collect plastics, juice cartons, paper, cardboard, glass and metals in the new blue lidded bin. Therefore the recycling bring sites which are located across the district will no longer be th required for these materials. HDC intend to remove these banks from the 14 November onwards. This has been publicised on our web site and signs have been placed on the banks at all of the locations. Any sites with third party charity banks for clothes, shoes, books etc will remain where possible but this is subject to the land owner’s permission. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the waste team on waste@harborough.gov.uk Local youth project, Rural Youth Voice, a Big Lottery Funded Project run by Voluntary Action South Leicestershire in partnership with Harborough District Council, who work across Harborough District, are delighted to announce that they have won an award from the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS) for involving young people in the planning and decision making processes of their work. Funded by BIG Lottery, the Young Partners Award celebrates and recognises collaboration between young people and adults as well as the skills and experiences they can achieve through working together. The Rural Youth Voice Project works in partnership with young people and organisations to improve youth participation and support young people to influence decision makers. Some of the work the Rural Youth Voice Project has supported over the past year includes: Rock on the Rec, a youth music festival in Market Harborough; Travelling Forward, a service for young Gypsies and Travellers; Fleckney Youth Café, developing a space for young people in Fleckney; Speak Out, a newsletter for and by young people and Swinford Wind Farm Youth Focus Group, supporting young people to help develop the Community Benefit Fund. The event brought together just over 200 attendees, including 12 shortlisted organisations as well as members from the wider voluntary and community youth sector. The award ceremony honoured some fantastic young people and organisations who have worked together to make a real difference to their communities. With four different awards at stake, each category was strongly contested by three outstanding shortlisted organisations. However, following a rigorous and lengthy decision making process by NCVYS’s own panel of young experts, The Rural Youth Voice Project were chosen as a winner for the Midlands region.
Winter Gritting Routes around Market Harborough Leicestershire County Council is ready to carry out precautionary salting of its County roads whenever freezing conditions or snow are forecast. The County Council has in place a pre-winter stock of 16,500 tonnes of salt located at 5 depots around the County. This is spread on the carriageway by a modern fleet of 22 vehicles. Experienced decision makers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week monitoring weather conditions and managing the winter maintenance operation. They receive weather forecasts that are linked to the County’s own weather stations utilising computer hardware in order to respond quickly to changing conditions. Once the decision to salt is taken approximately 45% of the network is treated in order of priority. The majority of the precautionary salting takes place overnight, ensuring roads are treated while they are clear of traffic and ahead of the morning rush hour. If a frost follows rain in the early hours insufficient time will be available to salt all routes before motorists travel to work and they must therefore be extra vigilant. Only during prolonged periods of sub-zero conditions will additional routes be salted and only then if resources allow without adversely affecting the treatment of priority routes

Use a suitable additive in the washer bottle to prevent freezing. -Ensure all windows and mirrors are clear from frost/snow and all lights are clean and working properly. - Check local radio for latest weather and travel information. -Allow extra time for your journey. -In icy conditions SLOW DOWN, steer gently and avoid harsh braking. Maintain a safe stopping distance behind other vehicles bearing in mind the conditions. - Remember that not all roads are treated – drive carefully.
During heavy snow the County Council has 30 snow ploughs which are fitted to the fleet of salting and construction vehicles, supported by over 50 farmers who are provided with snow ploughs for their powerful four wheel drive tractors. These,are located around the county and plough snow from agreed routes. Winter Maintenance supervisors are provided with a database of resources available from plant hire & construction companies. Resources are concentrated initially on strategic routes with routes of lesser importance being cleared subsequently.The County Council’s target is to open all major routes within 24 hours of the end of heavy snowfall

Whilst most of the smaller font sizes you use are similar to the national newspapers, when combined with different fonts and colours they are not as clear to read. Good morning, James Perowne of South Kilworth is a retired Admiral in the Submarine service. What have James and I have in common? I am the latest recruit to the sub mariner service having attempted to use my car as a submarine by parking it at the confluence car park down past Aldi in Market Harborough opposite the station. So……avoid it like the plague and, better still, stick to Rugby which is faster, cheaper and safer (and dry!). Remember- if you doubt the truth of Global warming and ever growing climate chaos then talk to Village Power CIC and support our work for a decarbonised future- or at least make sure you carry your wellies in the boot. The website would not exist without Jude and Nick. They worked closely with me to develop the site and every month Jude kindly e-mails over the newsletter, allowing me to update the site with all the latest news, events, press releases and information about North Kilworth for readers around the world. st

KILWORTH HOUSE THEATRE As in previous years I have been able to make a corporate village booking for the 2013 summer production at Kilworth House Theatre, prior to tickets being put on general sale in January. Villagers, friends and families are most welcome. I have provisionally booked 130 tickets in the centre aisle for the 2013 production of 'My Fair Lady’ on Sat 29th June 7.30pm. Tickets are £32 each. No payment or firm commitment will be needed until the middle of January but I do need to have th provisional numbers by Dec 7 so that Kilworth House Theatre can re allocate the tickets if we do not require them. FESTIVE RECIPE of the MONTH VODKA CHRISTMAS CAKE from Vicky O’Hara As King of all things Smirnoff, once again this year, I’ve had requests for my Vodka Christmas Cake recipe so here goes. Please keep in your files as I am beginning to get tired of typing this up every year! (Made mine this morning!!!!) 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 cup water, 1 tsp. salt , 1 cup brown sugar, Lemon juice, 4 large eggs, Nuts, 1 bottle Vodka, 2 cups dried fruit. Sample a cup of Vodka to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Vodka again to be sure it is of the highest quality then Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point, it is best to make sure the Vodka is still OK. Try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eegs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor, wash it and put it in the bowl a piece at a time trying to count it. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver Sample the Vodka to test for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the Vodka. Now shit shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the Vodka and wipe the counter with the cat. Thank-you for this Vicky. I’m sure you

QUESTION TIME FOR PARISHIONERS A resident indicated that a manhole cover had lifted on Green Lane adjacent to the White Lion public house. He also indicated that there was a broken manhole cover also on Green Lane near Kilworth Hall. The Clerk was requested to inform the County Council of the problems. He indicated his surprise that the public call box outside the White Lion public house had been removed. The Chairman commented on the fact that there had been no consultation from British Telecom. The Clerk was requested to contact British Telecom to ascertain the reasons for the non-consultation. A resident raised a question regarding the latest position on the Parish Plan revisions. The Chairman indicated that the next meeting of the Sub Committee would take place on 6 December at Ivy House. At this meeting it was hoped that all of the proposed revisions would be considered and finalised prior to the final agreement of both the parish and the Parish Council BROADBAND ENHANCEMENT. There was nothing to report under this item although it was reported that investigations are still underway to see if it was possible to utilise the same firm has was being used in Rutland. As reported at the last Parish Council meeting if anybody is interested in joining the Broadband Action Group please get in touch with Sue Otter. An enforcement notice has been served on the owners and as such they have a right to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate as to the reasonableness of the order. 10/00523/FUL Proposal: Discharge of Condion 7 (drainage), 8 (east elevation window), 9 (tree survey), 10 (aboricultural method statement), 11 (screen walls and fence), 12 (landscaping), 13 (materials), 14 (elevation details), 15 (contaminated land) and 17 (historic building recording) of 10/00523/FUL. Location: Ivy House Back Street North Kilworth, Application permitted by Harborough District Council. The Clerk acting as District Councillor agreed to contact the enforcement team at Harborough to ascertain the latest position regarding the question of the non-compliance of planning conditions concerning the installation of gates on a property conversion at the junction of High Street and Station Road. The Clerk reported that he had not been made aware of a decision from the Planning Inspectorate regarding the outcome of the appeal against the wind turbine in Pincet Lane. FINANCIAL MATTERS The Clerk acknowledged receipt of £100 in respect of further donations towards the cost of the defibrillator. The Clerk commented that no invoices had been received from Image Copy Print for the printing of the village newsletters for October and Nov 2012. The Clerk informed the meeting that as of close of business on 31st October 2012 the current account stood at £14,244.26 of which £3929.37 was available for funding heritage based projects. At the close of business on 30th June 2012 the reserve account stood at £6467.76. VILLAGE STRUCTURE/LOCAL ISSUES Councillor Green reported again that the salt bin in Cranmer Lane had not yet been refilled. The Clerk was again requested to contact the County Council to ensure that the bin was refilled prior to the winter season.The Chairman reported that there had been a photo shoot on 16 November at Howkins Garage to recognise Tom Evans’s efforts in obtaining a defibrillator for North Kilworth. The photo shoot was attended by representatives from the County Council, the District Council and parishioners. Councillor Lawrence offered on behalf of the Parish Council its sincere thanks for the amount of work that Tom Evans had done to ensure that there was a defibrillator for the use of the Parish. TREE PLANTING BOARD The Parish Council discussed the request from the Trustees of Millennium Green for a donation towards the cost of placing an interpretation board for visitors to Millennium Green. After some discussion concerning the need for prior discussion before making a decision and in the absence of Peter Jones it was agreed to place the matter on the agenda for the next Parish Council meeting. PARISH PLAN/NORTH KILWORTH NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN As indicated above in item 3 (2) a further meeting is to be held prior to the final agreement of the wording. The Clerk in his role as the Responsible Finance Officer of the Council requested that an estimate be sought for the final printing of the document. A discussion took place as to whether a document should be delivered to every household or if an electronic version should be made available. It was felt that this decision should be made when estimates are available. Groundwater Contamination The Parish Council considered a report that had been received regarding alleged incidents of contamination of water entering the surface water system which resulted in foam being visible in the stream which flows through Millennium Green. Whilst the Parish Council are concerned regarding the water quality it felt that it was the responsibility of the trustees to report the matter as the site is a designated nature reserve ultimately under the control of Harborough District Council. SWINFORD WINDFARM COMMUNITY FUND The Chairman reported that he had been appointed a director in the CIC which would distribute the grants from the Windfarm Community Fund. He pointed out that in order to obtain grants for projects a written bid would have to be considered by a Sub Committee of the Parish Council prior to consideration by the CIC. It was hoped that any interest for grants would come from the youth of the parish in order to fulfil the intentions of the CIC. The Clerk indicated that the Parish Council and already agreed to be formation of a subcommittee. FLOODLIT SPORTS AREA SUB COMMITTEE The Clerk was handed a sum of £90, money collected for the use of the Floodlit Sports Area. On 28th August 2012 the amount of money held in the Current Account was £8749.99 and in the Reserve Account on 29th June 2012 was £19796.91 DATE OF NEXT MEETING It was agreed that the next meeting of the Parish Council would take place on Wednesday 20th December 2012 at 7.45 pm in the Belgrave Village Hall Church Street North Kilworth. As a matter of urgency the Clerk reported that he had been in touch with the Monitoring Officer of Harborough District Council in respect of the provisions of the Localism Bill regarding the ability of councillors to set a precept. It would appear that there would be a conflict of interest in so far as to prevent councillors who lived in the parish being able to set a precept for the parish. From indications from the Monitoring Officer it was within the power of the Clerk to grant dispensations to enable sitting councillors to legally set a precept. The Clerk passed to those members present a dispensation request form which would have to be filled in prior to the issue of a dispensation. and will forward to those not present.

Say Hello to Jude and Nick, and goodbye to them as editors This month we say “Hello” to Jude and Nick, and “Goodbye” to them as editors of our NK News. As one of their junior hacks I’m not sure whether I should share with you something of their journalistic management style. Are they as reckless as Newsnight? Were they patient, understanding, and encouraging? Or were they belligerent - the most demanding bosses I’ve ever had? Let’s see…..
Jude was born in Coalville (probably when coal was mined there!). She trained as a radiographer and worked in the NHS, at the L.R.I., for 30 years. When they made her redundant they did her a favour because she got a better job at Great Ormond Street Hospital. That necessitated daily train journeys to London. It was the proximity to Harborough and Rugby stations that led Nick and Jude to move to NK 13 years ago. G.O.S. was followed by 8 years at Market Harborough Hospital, where she is still working. Jude is close to clocking up 50 years of work, all of it in the NHS and her expertise is amply demonstrated in her book (The Radiography of Children: A Guide to Good Practice) which was published in 2004. She considers all the radiographers that she’s worked with to be part of her wider family. Closer to home she is part of a very close knit family that includes sisters Chris and Helen, who were particularly important when she was totally paralysed with Guillame – Barre

syndrome. Jude reckons that the NHS saved her life. Nick was born in Nottingham. He has a passion for cricket, is a qualified umpire, and wishes he’d been born in Trent Bridge despite the fact that Fred Truman declined to give Nick and his brother Russell an autograph outside the ground. They weren’t put off by Fred’s “F--k off you little b------s” Nick spent 10 years working in marketing with the likes of Mars, Trebor and Seagrams and then studied for a teaching degree at Leicester Uni. He taught for 26 years and acted in a specialised roving role supporting school management teams in struggling schools. He has 2 children, Simon and Jane, from his first marriage and moved to Leicester 38 years ago. Nick and Jude met as his brother’s girlfriend was also a friend of Jude’s. First impression was that he was a gentleman, as he held her chair for her. Her second impression was about Nick being physically carsick on their first proper date. Despite that -and his obsession with Spurs, who Jude considers to be the third party in their marriage- they share many interests. Changing the date of an Australian holiday on account of a Spurs match was potentially divisive, but their shared love of cricket, dogs, travel, NK and their family has allowed them to flourish. They have 2 children: Ben, an area manager for Wetherspoons, and Faye, who is a teacher - plus 5 grandchildren. Jude and Nick love to travel. They’ve visited every continent except South America, and Antarctica, and have frequently combined cricket with long-range travel. They make a point of staying with locals and absorbing the local culture. Many of you will know how much they love their Springer Spaniel dogs, and

recently they lost Jack. He has been replaced by two puppies Jake and Flo. The time needed to look after (Archie their eleven-year-old Springer) and train two pups is one of the reasons they are stepping down from the News. As well as acting as gatekeeper for the NK web site and contributing to several village societies, Jude and Nick have been editing the News for 4 years, and have thoroughly enjoyed developing it into the good looking magazine that is appreciated by many of us. Along the way there have been joy and tears, like when Jude lost 4 days work and Nick retrieved it at the very last minute. When people realised that Jude and Nick were finishing, several people have commented to me how much their efforts have been appreciated, and I know others have said the same to them. They reckon it takes between 5 and 6 days to talk to contributors, write articles, collect articles, edit the whole thing, lay it out, and organise printing plus distribution. They use nothing more sophisticated than Word. Others might choose to do it differently, and to share the workload. If anyone is interested in editing the News (maybe sharing the workload with others), then both Jude and Nick would be prepared to support them until they are up and running. Please ring 880432 if you are interested. It’s 3 years since an idle chat in The White Lion led us to think about Say Hello. Since then it’s been my pleasure to work with both Jude and Nick. Message from Canon Chris Oxley
“Best wishes” is the most popular greeting on the Christmas cards we are likely to receive this year. It would be so easy to write that automatically, without thinking about it. What would be the best wish I could have for someone? Would it be that they could enjoy brilliant health? Or that they could win the lottery jackpot? Or that they have a happy life? In other words, a wish for ‘health, wealth and the pursuit of happiness’. I notice that a recent national initiative to measure happiness went the way of so many other ’initiatives’ from the same source! When I stop to reflect on the people who have had the greatest impact upon me, and who have been the greatest blessing, I am struck that not many of them have been wealthy, some of them have definitely not enjoyed good health and many of them have had to cope with tragedies in their own lives or of those close to them. Yet what is common to all these people is that they have been fully alive, that there has been a real genuineness and openness about them, a real generosity of spirit: the sort of people who make you feel better when you’ve been with them. St. Irenaeus, a 2nd century bishop, wrote that God is glorified when someone is truly alive. Perhaps my best wish this season and indeed all year for someone is that they be fully alive! ROBBED RAIDED REUNITED We have been contacted by the assistant producer of a BBC One daytime series called Robbed Raided Reunited. The series focuses on robbery / burglary. The bulk of the series is made up from observation footage of the police. The most important ‘feel good’ element of the programme is when they tell stories about people who have been reunited with stolen goods that are of sentimental value. The producers are interested in hearing accounts of how Neighborhood Watch and Home Watch have been pivotal in bringing criminals to justice, or helped to reunite victims of crime with stolen goods. SWINFORD WIND ENERGY PROJECT It's has been a year since the very start of the construction process. Since then we have constructed almost 6km of access tracks, received 3200 vehicles to site, prepared 11 turbine foundations, and erected the 11 wind turbines that stand onsite today. The construction team have completed the project ahead of schedule and with minimal works now left to complete the site has been handed over to Vattenfall Generation. They have been busy commissioning the turbines, which have been generating electricity during this time. The wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to supply 12,300 homes annually (assuming a capacity factor of 30%, annual average UK consumption per household of 4700kWh, Renewable UK). North Kilworth Defibrillator

To mark the introduction into service of the first public access defibrillator in North Kilworth a photo shoot was held on Friday 16 November. This was an opportunity to see the device in situ and learn how to access it and how to use it. It was also an opportunity to meet those who supported the initiative The project to acquire a defibrillator was started in March when the Parish Council applied to the Leicestershire Big Society Grant Fund for financial support. The application which was successful was followed by an equally successful effort by Gill Howkins to raise enough money to make the purchase. A generous donation by the Kilworth Challenge Committee ensured realisation and the people of the parish also gave generously. Gill and Mike Howkins offered to host the defibrillator on their garage forecourt. This location is an excellent one, which is easy to find and lit at night-time. A public call box is nearby if your mobile phone is not to hand. When someone has collapsed a good location like this makes for easier and quicker access to the defibrillator, important in bringing about a good outcome. Knowing what to do when someone has collapsed can also help to bring about a good outcome. To help achieve this, three threehour sessions on resuscitation training and learning how to use a defibrillator were held by Alison Chapman. So far 29 people have had the chance to learn and practice new skills. These sessions were held the North Kilworth Sports Club by kind permission of the committee. Nice one everbody
