There shouldn’t be many residents of North Kilworth not involved in events locally in some way during the first weekend of June. It promises to be pretty special. Teams and camping gear will commence arriving on the Sports Field on Friday the 1st for the 22nd Kilworth Challenge held over the following two days (see article below). This year should give extra cause for celebration as the magic million is hopefully reached. What an achievement by the committee and all involved! Watch out for a full report next month. It would be difficult not to have observed that the weekend will see celebrations nationally to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with an extra bank holiday in what will result in a 4 day bash! Can we all cope? Are we up for it? It certainly seems that way. For after the rigours of The Challenge, if anyone has any energy left, there will be a village party to celebrate the Jubilee on the Millennium Green from 3pm on Monday the 4th. A big thanks is due to Tracy Allen for organising and coordinating the event. Apart from yourselves, don’t forget to bring your own food, drink and tables etc. BBQ’s will be provided for those so inclined given the fact that lovely weather has been ordered. PLEASE! There’s a Jubilee hat theme and prizes for the best adult and child head gear. So come on down to the MG and party with the rest of the village. You might even raise a glass to Her Majesty. Now I know you’re not all rampant monarchists, but just for once..! Did I hear “Vive La Republique”?! Shameful. Continuing on a local theme but not quite so near, Leicester legend Englebert Humperdinck managed to avoid the dubious pleasure of achieving “nul points” in the Eurovision- but only just. He finished second to last place and a staggering 12 points with Britain’s entry of “Love Will Set You Free.” It didn’t really help that he performed first in the show so that when judging took place everyone would have forgotten the ditty, or the fact that it needed quite a number of hearings before remotely starting to register as a pleasant listen. No doubt our veteran local crooner got the hump at such a humiliation, so maybe he should have just called himself plain and simple Gerry Dorsey. Now that might have set him free- and us! Ed

THE KILWORTH CHALLENGE: THIS YEARS EVENT

JUBILEE PARTY Millennium Green

Monday 4th June

The weekend of 2-3rd June 2012 and the Kilworth Challenge are now upon us. The last month has been busy to say the least with the final preparations all being put into place. A bonus was certainly winning two categories in the `Pride of Harborough` awards where we won the `funder of the year` and the `best of the best`. As we have always said, we do not seek reward and recognition for the Challenge but it is always very pleasing to receive it and it just spurs us on to do more. Everything is now set for this year. We will have a full complement of teams and so no doubt we will have a highly enjoyable Challenge. The number of teams is a bit down on last year where we had a peak of 45, the Queen`s Jubilee and the extra days holiday has certainly had an effect on the availability of people. We look forward to an exciting and entertaining weekend ............ hopefully the sun will continue to shine. A reminder of where the money raised goes. Usually about 60-66% goes to the named main charities with the remainder going to what we call `good local causes`. The main charities are : Dukes Barn; Over the Wall; The Leics Club for Young People On Sunday 3rd June, we hope that we will be saying those magic words of `thanks a million` to everyone that has helped us over the years. It will be some achievement for us and everyone involved. We thank everyone that has helped in advance whatever the result. This includes Kilworth House and Theatre who have generously come in as a major sponsor to the Kilworth Challenge this year. A final reminder of the dates ..2nd & 3rd June 2012. We look forward to seeing you out and about over the weekend. Also DON’T FORGET the Family Challenge scheduled for Saturday 1st September 2012. The Kilworth Challenge Organisers - Colin Clarke, Chris Mitchell, Bruce Phillips, Mike Lawrence, Paul Whitehead, Manfred Morris, Mick Faulkner, Duncan Moss and Nick Otter.

Sgt 2908 Steve Bunn PCSO 6636 Ray Wells Some simple crime prevention advice to keep you and your home safe now that we are looking forward to some nicer weather. Please remember that doors and windows need to be kept shut and locked whilst you are out and not left open for those opportunist burglars. If you are at home and in the garden please ensure that your front door is locked and any windows closed. Over the years we have had incidents where people have just walked in the front door whilst the owners are in the back garden and visa versa. If you have garden equipment this should be locked away in your shed or garage, not only could they be stolen if they are left unsecure, but tools such as spades can be used to gain further entry into your house. Sheds should have a good quality lock on them or you could always think about getting a stand alone shed alarm or padlock alarm. These can be obtained at a reduced price from Neighbourhood Watch and are available at the Neighbourhood Watch market stall; this is held in the Market Hall in Market Harborough on the first Tuesday of each month. Say NO to doorstep criminals. This Service is committed to protecting our residents, particularly those who are vulnerable, from unscrupulous doorstep criminals offering ‘home improvement' services, such as paving, landscaping and roofing work. This often results in residents being pressured or intimidated into accepting a poor standard of work for an extortionate cost. Work carried out is often unnecessary and in some cases money is paid for work that

hasn't actually even been done. Rogue traders are criminals but they pretend to be professional tradesmen. One way to protect our residents is to inform them as soon as we can when we become aware that there are suspicious traders cold-calling or going door-to-door in their area. We recognise that one really good way of doing this is to add messages and alerts to the Leicestershire Villages website. We will issue alert messages on this website when we have serious concerns that residents are at risk of becoming victims of crimes or being exploited by unscrupulous traders. Please display the alerts where residents can see them by using town halls and village message boards. Our advice to all residents is always: Do not open the door to unexpected callers. Do not let strangers into your home. Do not be pressured into buying goods and services on the doorstep. Remember, rogue traders use glossy printed leaflets and wear smart clothes. DEFIBRILLATOR UPDATE A proposal was made in March for North kilworth to have its own public access

defibrillator. This could be used for sudden cardiac arrests. With the assistance of the Parish Council an application Grand Fund and an award of £1000 was granted. Thanks to donations from local people and organisations we now have enough money to purchase a defibrillator and we will take delivery of one in about 5 weeks time. It will be located at the Howkin’s Service Station forecourt in a secure box with a pin code lock. The pin code is revealed during a 999 emergency call. The defibrillator can then be used BEFORE an ambulance arrives. It functions automatically and can be used by anyone, without special training. It supplements the First responder and ambulance Services. To help people use the defibrillator confidently, a familiarisation session will be held. Information about this session will be posted in NK News nearer the date. Donation boxes can be found in Howkin’s Service Station, NK Sports Club and NK Bowls Club. It is now worth continuing the fundraising so that a second defibrillator can be purchased and also for resuscitation training. Many thanks to Gill Howkins for her Fundraising Effort and everyone who has made a contribution to the fundraising initiative including: Liz and David Brown; Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre; CYO Seeds and Ambassador Heating Oil Services. The Kilworth Challenge has also pledged £1000 Please see future editions of NK News for updates and details regarding the training and familiarization sessions. Also many thanks to Tom for organizing this initiative and getting the required funding so quickly. Thanks Tom

Will we ever get Fast Broadband in North Kilworth? What has happened since the last Parish Council? Leics County Council reported the preliminary results of its broadband survey, further detailed analysis will be available shortly. The only data available at present is the number of people responding to the survey from each Parish. This shows that Harborough District generated 45% of all the replies in Leics, really good news for N. Kilworth, but still not a guarantee that we will get fast broadband any time soon. The results from each Parish make interesting reading: for example N.Kilworth generated 61 responses, 50 from households and 11 from businesses. There are 191 households in the village1 that suggests a 26% response rate, (one in four people replied) better than Husband’s Bosworth which managed 14% but not nearly as good as Ashby Magna which managed 64% and several villages around the Leire exchange which managed 50% plus. How did they do this? The Leire villages got together to form an action group called LEBAG: Leire Exchange Broadband Action Group and they campaigned intensively (you may have seen coverage in the Harborough Mail – one of the slogans they used was ‘a superhighway not a cart track’ ) to get as many people as possible to complete the on line survey – it clearly worked. BT admitted that they have mis-sold broadband to some customers whose speeds never reach 1Mb/sec. Its worth checking your broadband contract and your speed again!! Speeds in Kilworth are reported to be good in Station Road (4Mb/sec) as you approach the canal but often erratic and often well below 1Mb /sec in the rest of the village. What are our options? The County Council is suggesting that there are several ways in which we might proceed. One is the LEBAG approach where the community takes responsibility for raising demand and establishing that there is enough business for a commercial supplier (BT/Virgin) to invest. For North Kilworth that would mean increasing evidence of demand from 1 in 4 households to 1 in 2, AND persuading our neighbours (Husbands Bosworth, Lubenham, Theddingworth, Sibbertoft and others on the 01858 exchange) to raise demand with us. The response rates of the LCC survey: Husbands Bosworth 14% response, Theddingworth 6%, Lubenham 1% suggest we have a long way to go. A second possibility is that individual villages organise and pay for some elements of the cost of installing the fibre network. The village might for instance take responsibility for digging the trenches, it could contract a local farmer and the village would manage this not BT, this would again reduces the cost to the supplier and indicate a level of demand which might persuade them to invest. A third possibility is for the village to raise all the costs of installing fast broadband. An informed guess at the cost suggests it could be in the region of £190,000. One way to do this is through the Parish element of the Council Tax . Given there are approximately 190 households in North Kilworth that means around £1000 per household perhaps payable over 4/5 years. Another approach is to use some of the revenue from the Swinford Wind Farm. This could be revenue or it could be used to raise capital, or a combination of all three approaches. This would mean a direct negotiation with BT/Virgin or any other potential suppliers as well as managing the installation. ‘Going it alone’, also means the village could be in a position to negotiate superfast broadband (100mbs or more) at a cost....!. How fast is fast and what do we need? UK Government policy is to have 100% fast broadband coverage in the UK by 2017, with 90% of the country getting superfast. North Kilworth is in the 10% harder to reach and BT Outreach currently has no timetable for this area, target speeds are currently 2mbs. Leicestershire County Council (LCC) like other councils is running publicity campaigns (GO ON LINE, and GO ON LEICS) to raise demand and grab a larger share of whatever grants are available. Harb. District has been more proactive than the rest and is investing in addition. It is also reporting that Harb. District has the highest number of home based businesses outside London1 and that 70% of these businesses are in areas classified as rural – that is with no timetable for broadband upgrade. The recent LCC survey suggests that N. Kilworth is interested but its neighbours are less so, we might get a share of whatever money comes to H District and we might not. There is also some debate nationally as to whether the UK targets are good enough. By 2017 the UK should be in an improved position – its average broadband speed is currently 16th fastest in Europe1; but will this target be good enough in 5 years time? The argument suggests that other countries (France and Russia) are investing in even faster broadband using fibre direct to each home rather than just the green cabinets in the street. Will we be lagging behind again in 10 years time?. Who knows what speeds we will want or need in the next decade?. If you are currently struggling with speeds less than 1mbs, speeds like 25 and 1000 mbs sound amazing, but think back to when you first had broadband and how fast that seemed then. Domestic demand through IPlayer and TV and film downloads and skype is increasing and we are becoming more informed and discerning on line consumers. Business demand is also growing and Harborough seems to be a hot spot for home based business, again this may work in our favour or it may not. What next? The Parish Council needs to consider the options and perhaps initiate a village wide discussion as well as continuing to maintain links with the District and County. 1 Between 8 and 25Mbs (this is usually megabits/second), don’t confuse bits and bytes, 8mbps means you can shift 1 MB (megabyte) of data/sec. Above 25mbs is called superfast broadband. 1 1 2001 Census This figure is not verified however. 1 th The Guardian 10 May 2012

At a Village walkabout ( all Villagers were invited ) 18 actually participated in an open scoring session of these sites using a scorecard of site strengths and weaknesses . The Gandy site was identified as the highest preference of the 4 sites, scoring 172 plusses and 18 minuses, clearly ahead of the other sites. On this basis negotiations were focussed primarily on the Gandy site. • Village Agreement to actively proceed with the Affordable Homes scheme (in conjunction with NCHA ) was confirmed at the st Open Meeting of October 31 .(subject to obtaining Planning Permission, funding, and a willing developer Partner.) A th proposed scheme design is being developed and will be available at the Information Event in the Village Hall on the 14 of June. • A builder has come forward with a proposal acceptable to the Gandy Family in principle which will permit the acquisition of the entire site at no cost to the village . Concurrent with the transfer of the land there will be parallel legal transactions which will, in effect transfer 45% (approx.). of the site to the Parish Council for Allotments, 16% ( approx.) to the Parish Council for use as Affordable Homes and 39% (approx.) to the Builder for use as a development plot for 5 commercial homes. • Simultaneously the Parish Council will need to agree a lease on the Affordable Homes Land with NCHA for 125 Years. • All the above legal Agreements will be put in place once the plans for the entire site (commercial and Affordable ) are approved by Harborough District Council. The latter’s approval will be entirely conditional on the above Legal Agreements being entered into by the Gandys, the Builder, the Parish Council and NCHA. • Ahead of the Planning Application being submitted Villagers will have every opportunity to comment on the physical appearance and nature of the proposed entire development on the basis that when the application for Planning goes in it will have the support of the Parish Council th • There will be a drop-‐ in event in the Village Hall on Thursday June 14 . NCHA and the developer partner are fully briefed on the design Statements in the 2004 and current redraft of the Village Plan and (now) Village Design Statement on which the architectural appearance will be based. • NCHA is pursuing funding with the Government Homes and Communities Agency. The more grant aid we can get the less they have to borrow and the higher the likelihood of an annual annuity rent for the Parish Council. At the moment the greatest likelihood is for a central government grant of between £20,000 and £40,000 per Affordable unit (around £200,000 hopefully). It is currently estimated that the affordable homes total scheme costs (inclusive of £60, 000 for the land) will be in excess of the order of £790,000 minimum. • Once the project has a confirmed funding base and planning consent a joint committee comprising NCHA and Appointees of the Parish Council will be formed to administer the AH project in terms of operational criteria, acceptance processes and review systems. No doubt a sub-‐group will be formed to manage the allotments • This then is the current position-‐we have a preferred site agreed following a transparent basis of assessment following acceptance of the project at open meetings for all Villagers. A builder has come forward with a package acceptable to the landowner of the preferred site and Harborough DC are fully conversant with our objectives. th • Now the need is for you to attend the Information Event at the Village Hall between 1500 and 2000 hours on June 14 to view the specific site proposals, discuss any issues you wish to raise and receive updates from those closely involved in the process. During the last year significant progress has been made against the Management Plan to improve the biodiversity of the Millennium Green and Bogs. It has really been a great effort and I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication. Ensuring the Millennium Green area remains a great place in the years ahead. To ensure a rotation of Trustees, and to balance commitments I am standing down as Chairman this year, but I do so confident that the Green is in good shape to flourish in the years ahead. Some of the work undertaken over the last twelve months • Following the last AGM there was a great start to the 2011 summer with our best attended bbq yet. It continues to be a great social occasion for the Village. • In conjunction with Village Power CIC, a community tree planting day was held in November 2011 and there are now some fantastic new trees, with families from around the village planting “their” trees on the Green for the generations ahead. Funding was from the Big Lottery, to soak up carbon, and Village Power CIC have paid for the initial establishment and maintenance. • Maintenance to the moat – Anne Hampson and Francis Mordaunt have done a great job of maintaining the moat and restoring open water, creating further biodiversity and providing a different habitat. With ducks already seen. • General maintenance work – Undertaken in accordance with the Management Plan, and tree inspection. The trees on the southern bank were trimmed or felled in accordance with the guidance sought on tree maintenance. Thank you to everyone who supported the Green by buying the timber, which helped with the costs. With many thanks to David Sanders for all his hard work organising the ongoing maintenance. • Nettles and cow parsley - these are important plants for the Green, but they were becoming completely dominant and hence a decision was made to spray in certain areas to reduce their invasive nature. • New signs have been erected around the Green including wonderful signs by David Ritson informing - Millennium Green Nature Reserve. • Wildflower planting and aquatic plants for the moat have all been included. • Additionally, “green boxes” have been mounted near the 2 entrances with information sheets for children on wildlife and plants. • The “100 Club” remains the main source of regular income, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who participates and supports the Millennium Green through the “100” Club - Thank you In summary the Millennium Green remains in overall great health. With the Bogs habitat, open water, streams, grassland, established trees and new woodland, all now combine to create a wonderful spectrum for nature in a small, but “special place” in the “heart” of the Village. Finally, as I stand down as Chairman can I thank all the Trustees for their support and hard work, with a special thanks to Ann Hampson and Francis Mordaunt, who are also standing down, for all their years of help and fantastic support to keep the Green a great place.

Trustees – Stuart Dainton (Chairman), Francis Mordaunt, Sue Dunford, Bill Griffith, Anne Hampson, Peter Jones, David Sanders, Jane Faulkner with support from Fran Ritson.

Message from the Rev’d Canon Chris Oxley God Save the Queen!

Early June sees the 60th anniversary of our Queen’s reign: all over the country and Commonwealth there will be parties and celebrations in honour of Her Majesty and our villages will be no exception! The second week of June will no doubt see lots of people recovering from a surfeit of hot dogs and jelly and ice cream, among other things! As a nation we will have the opportunity to give thanks for a remarkable woman: someone who has responded to her calling to public service with ceaseless commitment and unfailing devotion. Goverments and Prime Ministers come and go and , Heads of State and others from all over the globe have over these years come to recognise her outstanding contribution not only to the nation and Commonwealth but far beyond to the wider world. Her Majesty’s embracing of her duty of service springs directly from her Christian faith, and is constantly renewed by it, as our Bishop reminded us when, with the Duke of Edingburgh and the Duchess of Cambridge Her Majesty recently visited our cathedral at the start of her Jubilee Tour. Many of us will remember that occasion, when people of all generations and from every ethnic background came together in Leicester to greet her and to welcome her. It was a deeply moving experience, which I shall long remember and cherish. The “royal servant” is a theme at the heart of the Christian experience. Jesus, the Son of David, declared he had come not to be served but to serve, he lays aside his garments and washes the feet of his friends as their servant and the crown he wears is a crown of thorns. One of the earliest Christian hymns, found in Page 9 2, sings of Jesus who took the form of a servant and who humbled himself, even to death on a Philippians Cross. Such an expression of kingship was then and still is profoundly counter-cultural, in keeping with the whole ministry of Jesus in word and work which challenged and continues to challenge the values of society around power and status and prestige. In all our Sunday worship on 3rd June there will be Prayers of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty and especially for her dedication to service, as we gather in response, as we do each week, to the invitation of Christ, the Servant King. You are welcome to share in that opportunity to celebrate with us. Chris Oxley

RESERVOIR DOGS in North Kilworth

With the onset of Summer the social value of the Millennium Green to the youth of the village will no doubt be appreciated, especially in the holidays. At the recent Trustees AGM it has therefore been decided to hold a “DOG WEEK” to highlight the importance of removing dog poo to home or locally provided Poo Bins. It seems incredible that a small minority continue to leave dog excrement where it can spoil everyone’s enjoyment of this precious open space. Jane Faulkner will be leading a high profile campaign to highlight the issues of this anti-social behaviour. Even more appalling is the disrespect shown by leaving dog mess in the Churchyard! 3 dog owners have been seen not collecting their mess so if this initiative is ignored the Trustees are prepared to name and shame. Say Hello To:

Bea and John Poole

Say Hello to John and Bea and you will have access to a great deal of village history, because they have lived in Elmcroft Road for 45 years - but there’s more to them than history as they are still actively involved in several aspects of the village. Music is a big part of their life, so Bea will invite you to join the WI hand bell ringers (even if you are not a WI member) and John will persuade you to join the U3A choir. Affectionately known as JP, John is a prolific storyteller, and he has a great story to tell about how they set up and ran the 1st Kilworth Scout Group. Soon after moving to the village, daughter Kath joined the Brownies. Their son Tim was 4, but had no prospect of joining cubs or scouts because the group that was hosted by Miss Belgrave in Meadowtoft had been disbanded. Bea set off to meet the Scout District Commissioner, got herself trained, installed Tim as the mascot, and enlisted John as a leader who served for 30 years. Their scouting journey involved fund raising and commissioning the dedicated building that is located in the playing field at Bosworth. For his involvement in this project, John was awarded the Scouts Medal of Merit. Forty years after their germ of an idea, the Scout Group is thriving, has taken up to 60 cubs and scouts to camp, and has helped hundreds of youngsters to develop and enjoy themselves. Whilst there are plenty of would-be scouts, apparently there is always a need for trained helpers, so Bea and JP will tell you who to speak to if you would like to get involved. John was also involved in the NK youth club for 30 years. Ask him about our trip to Edale and Martin Coles (sorry Martin), and pony trekking weekends in Wales. Bea organises our Christmas choir in the church, which leads musically on to John. Just because he’s very Welsh he thinks he can sing, along with the 52 members of his family who get together annually to celebrate their roots. You might prefer to go along to the U3A (University of the Third Age) choir, which Bea runs, and hear their wide repertoire, including Barber Shop songs. U3A uses the expertise of people like Bea and John to keep retired people active, and they are involved in the walking group, dancing, cookery for men, and hand bell concerts as well as the choir. With all these interests you can still bump into Bea and JP walking their dog Bess– but you’ll have be out and about at 6.30am to catch their morning walk. So where did all this start? Bea was born in Melton Mowbray. John was born (singing) in Saundersfoot. They met when Bea was on holiday and John’s uncle overbooked his B&B, so Bea had to sleep at John’s house. To you this might seem slightly hasty, but it seems to have worked - they’ve been married for 50 years. They have 5 grand children and 2 stepgrandsons. Their family keeps them busy, taking in a trip to Antigua to watch two of the boys play cricket. Bea’s mother, Freda Parr, lives next door to them in a bungalow that was built after Bea and JP built theirs. Freda is 101 years old, so there’s probably plenty of time to say ‘Hello’ to Bea. When they worked for a living, Bea was head of Farndon Fields, a large Leicestershire primary school, and JP spent most of his working life as a system design engineer for GEC/Marconi in Coventry. One of the projects that John worked on was the telecommunication system on the Jubilee underground line. This little slot is unlikely to feature two retirees who are more active than Bea and JP. They are still enjoying life, still contributing to our local community, and still recruiting others to join them. So say ‘Hello’ to Bea and JP if you just want to pass the time of day; if you want to know anything about the Scouts; join the U3A, or if you would like to swell the numbers of the hand bell ringers. They will be pleased to hear from you on 880534.

Page 11 As many of you will know Village Power CIC secured a Local Energy Assessment Fund grant to promote and study energy efficiency in North Kilworth. The funding was for 4 specific tasks I Properties in the village to be offered an assessment of their energy rating, undertaken by Elmhurst Energy, to produce Energy Performance Certificates. This element of the project looked at the overall energy efficiency of domestic properties in North Kilworth and had two primary aims; the first was to provide robust and accurate energy efficiency advice to residents and investigate how it was used, the second was to build an energy profile for the entire village so an estimation could be taken on the total energy needs of the village II Supply and fit Voltage Optimisation devices to 3 residential properties to study and evaluate the potential for the technology to be used in the domestic market. III Distribute 80 energy monitors to raise the awareness of energy consumption. IV Study opportunities for renewable technology – specifically anaerobic digestion. We were able to promote all of the above at seminars in the Village earlier in the year, distributing the energy monitors and free low energy light bulbs. The results of the project are available on line at www.villagepowercic.co.uk However, the Elmhurst study showed for domestic properties the Village energy efficiency is better than the norm, although in reality it may be a lot better in the terms of building fabric as the national benchmark reflects the high proportion of mains gas heated, which inherently is a cheaper and lower emission fuel, while of course in Kilworth there is the predominance of more costly fuels such as oil. The studies indicated the insulation levels, efficiency of heating appliances and levels of double glazing are significantly higher than the norm to compensate for the lack of mains gas. One aspect that was encouraging was the number of self-generating electricity properties with solar panels. Village Power are delighted that Greenability a local company (and many of you may know Simon Williams, Director, from functions around the village) are also willing to give customers in North Kilworth a 5% discount on solar panels and donate a referral fee to Village Power CIC to invest in future village projects. ANNUAL REPORT: SPORTS CLUB

In last year’s report the floodlights had just been installed. I can now say that they are up and running and before long we will not know how we did without them. One of the most exciting events to happen during the last year was the village winning £60,000 of solar panels after winning a phone vote-‐in with a suburb of Birmingham. The Club paid its part in this win canvassing votes from all the organisations and friends that have used us over the years. The Club has now got thirty solar panels that are performing well and next year we should be in a position to tell you how much they are saving us. A major change this year has been our opening hours. The White Lion being shut for most of the year has prompted us to extend our days and hours and now we open every day bar Monday which makes way for the ever poular yoga sessions. Internally the Club has been given a makeover and facelift, couple this with new furniture inside and out and a host of new members the Club has a spring in its step. Perhaps the most pleasing thing over the year is not inside the building but outside on the field. As well as two Saturday and two Sunday teams we are a parent club to an under-‐thirteens football team who will be playing at North Kilworth and two under-‐nines teams who will be playing at South Kilworth. These teams will continue playing through their years until they are old enough to integrate to our adult teams. Also we have been approached by a Market Harborough Development side that run an under seventeen’s team. From next season this team will be playing mainly Wednesday evening games in the Midland Floodlit League all wearing the North Kilworth shirt. The committee hopes that the introduction of the different aged teams will encourage young villagers to come along, join in and play for their village. Also under negotiation is cricket. We have met a delegation from the Village with serious intentions of forming a cricket team. We will be doing all within our power to make that happen. So for the Sports Club the last twelve months have all been abouit positive change. A year when new, greener energy has been introduced, youth development programmes have been migrated into the Club and we have become more flekxible in our hours to which we can best serve the community. All within a nicer, more relaxing environment. With these positive e lements now in place and operational North Kilworth Sports Club look to the Parish Council for their continued support.

ANNUAL REPORT: ALL WEATHER PLAY AREA Membership for the 2011 2012 year (new year started May 17th 2012), was an all-time high raising £ 1,500, with 36 family memberships. We are delighted with these numbers and the fees have remained the same. The social fundraiser was the ever successful Safari Supper and this has enabled us to keep funds at a high level to cope with future costs of maintaining both the surface of the All Weather and the play area in Dag Lane. The Inspection report of this area was satisfactory and we do not expect to do any major work there at the moment. We are a small committee working on behalf of the Parish Council and really need' young blood' to revive interest in running competitions and encouraging a village tennis club. Membership details and keys can be obtained from Julie Fish or Sarah Holmes. Dorothy Howie
