St Andrew’s Primary School Athletics Good luck to all the Saffron Lane Athletes!! On Monday 23rd May at 4:00pm, the Saffron Lane athletes will be competing against 14 other schools. We hope our school will do well and we were hoping to get into the top 7 schools. We will post the results in the next issue. We wish you all the best!!! By Teva Maguire and Jasper Kirton Superb Swimmers Selected From St Andrew’s Seven children were selected to enter the Market Harborough Small Schools Swimming Gala on the 12th of April. We arrived with strict instructions for us to wear a swimming hat and no goggles unless the doctor had instructed. Then we sat down to listen to the rules, which was quite hard with a dodgy microphone! Our soon to be superstars as you will find out were... • Grace Lindop in yr5 swam against yr6s • Maddy Lindop in yr3 swam against yr5s • Isabel Smith in yr3 swam against yr5s • Abigail Robertson in yr4 swam against yr5s • Chloe Bradley-Upton in yr5 swam against yr6s • James Baker in yr6 swam against yr6s • Rachel Mellar in yr6 swam against yr6s • Oliver Morgan in yr6 swam against yr6s • Scott Mcvea in yr 5 swam against yr6s After many races swimming in breaststroke, backstroke, front crawl and butterfly along with the odd couple of relays, we won! Nuneaton Festival of Arts On Saturday 7th May 2011 Elizabeth Hobbs, Oliver Morgan, Sam Hall and Chloe Bradley- Upton, all played guitar at Nuneaton. Elizabeth Hobbs and Oliver Morgan came 1st in their classes with scores of 80 and 83. Sam Hall scored 80. Finally we were joined by By Elizabeth Hobbs Chloe Bradley-Upton, we did 2 group pieces and came 2nd.

St Andrew’s Netball Team The netball team have been doing a tournament around the Lutterworth Area. They have won five out of five matches. The netball team are Ollie Morgan, Megan O’Neil, Lucy Pike, Scott McVea, Jessica O’Neil, Daisy Swan and Ethan Swan. They came runners up in the small schools tournament. They have done brilliantly this season. Debbie who teaches them netball is very proud of them! By Edward Sandercock

Class news Reception Reception’s topic this term is mini-beasts and in art they are making a secret garden.. Their next topic will be ‘water wonderland’. In maths they are doing lines of symmetry with their topic theme mini beasts. Next in literacy is the hungry caterpillar.

Year 1/2 In year one and two their topic theme is famous people. Over the Easter holidays the children were given pop corn seeds to plant and they grew! They started athletics and have all said it is really fun. In art they are doing weaving. They are also doing mini Olympics. By Maddie Lindop and Ella Clarke

Beta Beta would like to welcome two new pupils to the class. This term Beta are learning all about Egypt. On Tuesday 24th May we are going to the Herbert Art Gallery Museum. We will be learning lots of fun bits about Egypt. By Abigail Robertson This term we have the drama group Lemon Jelly award night to look forward to and sports day which will take place in June.

Community Day On Friday the 1st of July we would like to welcome people in the community, who may have a hidden talent, into our school. We are hoping to find people who are creative and can help in areas such as pottery, floristry, gardening, art, poetry etc, as we would like to spend the day learning from and welcoming in members of the community.
