mplifier Public Library The Cormac McCarthy Library in Knoxville, TN is a beacon and structural advocate of the first amendment. Freedom of speech is what this library exemplifies embracing the history of print media and voice. This library is used as a platform that supports and encourages open debate and research as well as a resource facility for printing processes, publication material, video and audio labs and support.
The Amplifier Public Library is a five story, steel structure that sits beside a forgotten, yet iconic threashold in Knoxville. The Henly Street Bridge is one of the most celebrated bridges in the city spanning across the Tennessee River and the well traveled Neyland Drive connecting the downtown area with South Knoxville. Like most bridges, while beatiful in their construction, material and shear size, the space underneath is left bare, desolate, and forgotten most likely to be used by the local wanderers. Positioning the library adjacent and accessible to the Henly Street Bridge is a crutial aspect and a key factor in bringing this area to life. The Amplifier serves as a neutral commonplace for its citizens which exposes guests and patrons to the river and a newfound view of Knoxville.

GTV + UTK CoA+D The University of Tennessee College of Architecture + Design has partnered with Scripps Network including HGTV in a collaborative effort to improve conditions in the administrative office area as well providing a learning experience for the third year interior design students. My group particularly focused on the break room which was over crowded, unorganized, dark and extremely small. Our design was geared to address accessibility issues, energy efficiency, seating, daylighting and water usage.

he Annual All-College Spring Thing The Annual All-College Spring Thing, commonly referred to as TAAST, has been a long standing, week-long tradition within the College of Architecture + Design at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. It was originally created to unify the students within the college through lectures, activities, competitions, fund raisers and galleries. The graphic of the three single triangles symbolize the overlap and unification of the three disciplines in our beloved college - Architecture, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture. The graphic was then applied to the required banner, poster and t-shirt in order to create a new brand for TAAST 2015.

herokee Hotel The Cherokee Hotel is a historic icon for the city of Cleveland, Tennessee. Built in 1928, it represented a true travelers’ experience with all of the available amenities. It was the starting point for a potential boom-town and was the place to be within the city. Unfortunately, the hotel was turned into low income housing in the 1960’s and then Section 8 housing soon after. In order for the Cherokee Hotel’s unique history and reputation to be honored and celebrated, it is our responsibility to restore the Cherokee Hotel back into a hotel. The new Cherokee Hotel will revive the downtown area to be, once again, an up-and-coming boom-town.
25
The new site plan for the Cherokee Hotel incorporates the existing block on which it is located which includes three existing buildings as well as the Johnston city park across the street which occupies an entire block. The donor family’s restrictions for the park has prevented the city from fully taking advantage of the much needed green space within the downtown area. We felt that it was important to improve upon what was already taking place in the park as well as expanding and connecting it to our site and other future amenities. As a result, a pedestrian walkway was created spanning the entire length of the existing park block, through the Cherokee Hotel’s courtyard, and ending in a shopping alley at the end of the block. With the belief that Cleveland will be developing the downtown area more, the city will be able to expand upon the walkway linking the entire area for pedestrians.
