Our products are authentic and ethical. They preserve traditional skill, feature sustainable materials, and represent stories of hope for the artisans who earn vital income by crafting them. The income that artisans earn through fair trade with Ten Thousand Villages empowers them to build better lives—this can mean adding a roof to their home, putting food on their table, obtaining healthcare, or sending their children to school. At Ten Thousand Villages, we have longstanding relationships with more than 100 artisan groups around the world. It all began from humble roots in 1946, when Edna Ruth Butler, a volunteer for Mennonite Central Committee, visited a sewing class in Puerto Rico. More than 65 years later, with a network of branded stores, wholesale accounts, community sales and an e–commerce site, Ten Thousand Villages has grown into one of the world’s largest fair trade organizations. A long standing member of both the World Fair Trade Organization and the Fair Trade Federation, Ten Thousand Villages leads a worldwide movement that works to protect the dignity of artisans and families in developing countries and the preserve the earth’s natural resources through sustainable practices.
OUR MISSION To create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long—term, fair trading relationships.
